The Environment Agency has issued two  flood warnings for the River Wye. Water levels are expected to peak in Hereford tomorrow. While riverside paths are being closed off this evening (Monday 30th Nov).

Agency officials warned people who use the footpaths to find other routes on their way to school and work tomorrow morning.

A fledgling new Radio Station is being set up in Hereford (covers Worcester as well) .... For info ... They are aiming to broadcast on the internet and DAB radio .... 

Like Radio - Radio for the 21st Century!

We are Like Radio, a radio station who is striving to provide truly local radio within Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Radio across the 2 counties in our opinion in now starting to sound bland, boring and be of little relevance to the area. We believe radio in the two counties needs personality, localism and our station will bring this back! The station will truly be for the 21st Century using the latest technology and techniques to integrate and interact with the audience, and of course promote local businesses. We are even creating a way that listeners can help decide our weekly playlist!

We are an experienced team with our 30 combined years experience in the media and most importantly the radio industry, with one team member Ian Davies, being a popular presenter within our target area for the past 8 years. 

Our Campaign

Ask yourself these questions:

- Fed up of presenters sounding like robots?

-Fed up of hearing the same songs day in, day out?

-Fed up with presenters not knowing anything about the area they cover?

-Most importantly, do you like radio? 

We are going to bring truly local radio for the 21st Century to Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The majority of our programming will be produced from our studio and premises in Hereford. We are going to provide a new format and formula which gives the listeners more control than any other radio station within our area. We will have full interaction with the listeners throughout the core times of the day, many request programmes, all topics relevant to our core area and we are building a voting platform for the listeners to decide what should be on our A-List.

We believe this is important as it will show the big groups that local radio can still work and that networking is not required. We also want to build this station so similar stations by us could be rolled out across the country in the future.

Like Radio will show how radio for the 21st Century should be done!

Three residents of cornish flats have complained on various occasions to Geof Layton with his excuse being
they would need a translator because they are Polish and don't speak English which is rubbish.
Complaints have been registered since August.

I thought some of you might be interested in this new project by Private Eye.  They have produced an interactive map showing land and buildings owned by offshore registered companies (a well known tax avoidance tactic).   You can zoom in and see which bits of Hereford and Herefordshire are owned in this way.

Who'd have thought that the Imperial in Widemarsh St, leasehold, would be owned via the Cayman Islands, for example?

Good news for the Library for now.

Herefordshire Council is now pleased to announce that the South Wye Community Association have very generously offered the council the opportunity to keep the additional opening hours at Belmont Library until the end of March 2016.

 

The additional opening hours has meant that the Belmont library has had an increase in visitor numbers of over 114% between September and November this year, compared with figures for the same period last year.

 

When the Hereford town library was closed in September due to the discovery of asbestos in the building, the opening hours at the Belmont library were increased to mirror the hours that the town library had been open.  It was then to revert to its usual opening hours after Christmas.

 

As Herefordshire Council are tenants of the South Wye Community Association, increasing the extra hours meant a small additional cost was incurred, however the term has now been extended to the end of March, very generously by the South Wye Community Association at no extra charge to Herefordshire Council.

 

The Council is extremely grateful to the South Wye Community Association for all the help and support that they have received during this difficult time.

After reading the article in the HT about the over zealous street warden, I thought a debate should be started about the number - or lack of - taxi ranks in the city.

I understand that ranks are based in -

1 St Peters Sq - 2 spaces

2. Commercial Rd - both sides numerous from 7pm

3. Broad St

4. Bridge Street

5. Maylord Orchards slip road

That means there are NO official ranks in Widemarsh Street, St Owen Street near the Barrels, Bluschool Street near Play and Bewell Street near Tescos.

So what to do. Quite clear not enough spaces and ranks in the wrong places

Perhaps something for the council to look at to ensure a proper regulated service with enough spaces at the right locations and at right time of the day and night

For the record and having worked on the doors in Commercial Road Hereford for many years and from information I have received today, I can confirm that the doorman that was injured was at Wetherspoons.

A male had been asked to leave earlier. He was outside having a domestic with his misses and he grabbed her around the throat, the doorman stepped in to stop it.

The male grabbed the doorman's radio and smashed it into the doormans face badly injuring him. The male was restrained and then the female kicked off with the doorman. Both were arrested.

I have just read that the former Paperway shop in Widemarsh St could soon become a Shellfish Restaurant & Bar, that's different.

Applicant Lauren Waring says the venue would help footfall in the 'old' city centre, create jobs for those in the county and fill an empty unit.

 

In a document sent to planners with the application, Miss Waring said the business's ethos would be on "fine and affordable dining".

 

The cafe part of the business would sell the likes of homemade pastries, "high quality breakfasts" plus speciality teas and coffees.
