    Newton Farmers Queens Birthday Party

    DILLIGAF
    By DILLIGAF,

I have been made aware that the infamous and elusive Cllr Edwards is busy organising a party for HRH on his doorstep by Belmont Poolside! As far as I am aware no one in the community has been contacted, either to assist or input in this "community party". I have not been able to obtain any further information or provisional dates.

I again attempted to contact Cllr Edwards the other week whilst at the park nearby with mini me. In regards to this and other issues that have been raised throughout the ward. Even though he was in he refused to answer the door!

When Council 'free' isn't really free at all

    twowheelsgood
    By twowheelsgood,

A press release by the Council a couple of weeks ago was published by HT without challenging the apparent facts. It concerns Herefordshire's electric vehicle charging point network - the Council have handed over management of this to Chargemaster under the brand name of Polar. The Council say 'To continue its support of EV drivers in the county Herefordshire Council will continue to offer free electricity and free parking whilst recharging at all its charge points.' All well good you may think - what they don't say is that Chargemaster (not surprisingly with such an aggressive name) charge £8 a month for the privilege of accessing a charger or £1.20 a connection, when previously there was no cost. I'm told their chargers are not compatible with all electric cars and there are only 9 in the County anyway, 6 of which are in Hereford. Ok, so the electricity is still 'free' which actually means it's subsidised by the government (not the Council) to allow green boxes to be ticked, and for sure this won't last forever.

It's a sad indictment when, to paraphrase, there are lies, damned lies and Council statements. Choose how you move, but read the small print first.

I cannot see anything specific on Bath Street Offices but it may be buried in the 14/15 Delivery Plan

Item 8 is in relation to a new audit service and the South West Audit Partnership is recommended.

If any Councillors see this thread I guess a question I would like asked on this is are there any ex Herefordshire Council staff employed by this organisation and is there any connection between the Chief Financial Officer Peter Robinson who moved here from somewhere south (Bristol?) and SW Audit Partnership? Just so we know who is or is not involved!!!!

Farage v Cameron tonight on ITV

    megilleland
    By megilleland,

I thought Nigel held more than his own, bearing in mind the constant attack by the EU funded academic and professional plants in the audience. Having said that Cameron is also on the receiving end of ordinary people's concerns at a personal level. Banks, corporations and restrictive professional association/bodies have little in common with the patriotic citizen, rather more than protecting themselves in their counting houses and milking us dry.

LEA Pool To Be Demolished For New Affordable Housing

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Herefordshire Council is pleased to announce that WM Housing has been selected as preferred partner for the demolition and redevelopment of the former LEA Swimming Pool on Hollybush Walk, Hereford.  The housing association will develop a scheme to provide much needed affordable housing on the site.

    LEAPool2.jpg

The pool had long term serious structural defects and had to be closed in 2009.  The cost of bringing the pool back into use has recently been estimated at around £5million.  As a result the council reluctantly agreed to dispose of the site in July 2015.

Following a tendering process, WM Housing has put together a proposed scheme which includes eight affordable homes.  Discussions are currently taking place with neighbouring school, St Martin’s Primary School, and school children, school staff and residents will shortly be invited to an event to consider the plans.

Councillor Harry Bramer, cabinet member for contracts and assets, said: “We are delighted to be working with WM Housing on this development which will bring more affordable housing to the area.  Local residents and the school community will shortly be invited to have a look at the plans, make suggestions and share ideas.  It is anticipated that the existing buildings will be demolished in April 2016, so that building work can begin soon afterwards.”

    New Hereford Skate Park Vandalised

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

The turf has been laid over the past few days surrounding the new skate park and vandals have uplifted it and placed it all over the park, I have no words...

Here is a quote from a local person who took this photo.

So on Monday afternoon I was taking nevaeh to nursery and as usual I have to walk past the brand new £100,0000 skate park and someone men from the Herefordshire housing had parked their van on the skate park as they were laying down rolls of turf on the built up banks (I had a funny feeling this grass that they were laying down was going to get vandalised! After the men had gone kids were standing all on it and sliding down it!) And I was right! This morning taking nevaeh to nursery the kids from Hereford Academy school had ripped up large chunks of the grass and put it all over the skate park! This was obviously done sometime yesterday. I took a bunch of photos and after dropping of nevaeh at nursery I went to the academy school and spoke to one a couple of the admin staff on duty and told them I was the lady that complained about the litter the other wk and I showed them the photos of what the kids had done to the grass! I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS!!! as turf is very expensive and it has obviously been bought and paid for by the tax payers just for some vile, disrespectful kids! Who have no morals or comman decency! And who have been brought up by parents who couldn't give a ****! HERE ARE THE PHOTOS TO PROVE IT! I have forwarded on these photos to one of the admin staff from the school as well

I am pleased that it was quickly repaired.

    Full House Charity To Close

A RECYCLING service which provides low cost furniture for those on low incomes is closing.

Full House Furniture Recycling Service in Holme Lacy Road, Hereford will close its doors for the last time on July 31.

It was set up to provide, from donated goods, low-cost furniture and household items to disadvantaged families and individuals, those in poverty and housing need, those on low incomes or receiving state benefits.

Chair of the board, Nancy Ellis, said it is with great sadness that the decision has been made.

She said: "But while we are currently solvent, a number of significant factors have led us to the conclusion that our long-term financial prospects are poor.

"In the last year of trading, we made a significant financial loss, despite every effort being made to manage costs tightly.

"The recent introduction of the new National Living Wage has had a significant impact and forthcoming increases up to 2020 mean intensified cost pressures on us."

Ms Ellis said auto-enrolment under the new pensions legislation will also potentially add to their core costs and they are worried about an increase in rent.

She said a viable future strategy would also call for an investment in management staff.

The charity also offers work to people who might be unable to find work elsewhere that is within their capabilities and provides a sheltered environment and work experience to individuals with special needs and/or disability, including those who are homeless.

Ms Ellis said: "While we are extremely grateful for the support of a number of funders, such as the Eveson Trust and the EF Bulmer Foundation in the past, we do not believe it is right to seek charitable funding to subsidise day to day running costs, when other charities locally can offer a broadly similar service, albeit without providing employment opportunities for vulnerable people."

She said they are discussing ways in which services and staff can be transferred with minimum disruption.

Collections will continue to be made until June 30 and there will be a major closing down sale over the next few weeks.

    Speed Scammers Belmont Road

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

I spotted this speed camera scammer outside the Three Counties Hotel again this morning.

Annoys me because there is no school so this is obviously pre-planned with less traffic about!

I took a few photographs of the van which was clearly not appreciated because as soon as I did and stood in view of his money making lens it suddenly moved away.

    Fed up with nuisance calls?

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Mobile phone users can opt out of nuisance calls by text message for the first time from today.

    Blocked.jpg

The "text-to-register" service allows members of the public to add their number to the "do not call" database of the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).

Mobile users can sign up by texting "TPS" followed by their number to 78070.

The TPS should send a text reply confirming the number has been added to its database.

The service may take 28 days to become fully effective but customers should notice a reduction in unwanted sales and marketing voice calls within days.

It is illegal for organisations to make unsolicited calls to numbers registered with the TPS unless they get consent.

Communications regulator Ofcom said only 48% of people familiar with the TPS are aware that they can register a mobile number, compared with 88% for landlines - meaning only 2.9 million UK mobiles are registered.

John Mitchison, head of the TPS, said: "Rogue callers operate illegally and against the interests of ordinary people.

"Texting will make it easier for people to register their mobile numbers on the TPS, which is the only official no-call list, and help us stamp out rogue callers once and for all by giving the Information Commissioner more ammunition to prosecute these cases."

Baroness Neville Rolfe, the minister responsible for data protection, said: "Nuisance calls are incredibly intrusive and can cause significant distress, particularly to elderly and vulnerable members of society.

"This new service from the TPS and Ofcom will help protect people with mobile phones, making it easier for them to register via text and opt out of the call list."

    Spam Texts

What to do if you get a spam text message:

Recent Which? research revealed that only 1 in 10 people are aware that you can report spam texts to your provider using a free text service. Just forward the message to 7726, or 87726 if you’re with Vodafone. Once reported you should get an automated response and some further instructions.
