  1. Interesting he makes some good points although the cost of £20 million for doing a eastern bypass? I'd have to question that amount as I would expect it to cost far more than that? Given that figures are not Hereford councils strong point?
  2. I have just spoken with a lady from save Britain's heritage there going to give me a call tomorrow. They worked to help save Smithfields market in London back in 2008 although they've just had to do another campaign against Henderson global investors who now own the site. Out come of that public inquiry will be known soon. BBC Home > BBC News > England Menu Smithfield market plans refused 07 Aug 08 14:12 A part of the historic Smithfield market earmarked for demolition has been saved after planning permission to redevelop the site was refused. The western part of the meat market in Farringdon, central London, was due to be converted into shops and offices. The bid involved demolishing the disused 19th Century building, the General Market and other structures. But Communities Secretary Hazel Blears refused permission saying the proposal would harm the area's character. Ms Blears said the existing buildings on the site made "a significant contribution" to the character and appearance of Farringdon, including the Smithfield Conservation Area. Public inquiry The development was put forward by Thornfield Properties and the City of London. The plans, which were the subject of a public inquiry, have proved controversial. Supporters claimed the development would revive Smithfield but opponents suggest it would damage the conservation area and be intrusive. English Heritage has not listed the General Market Building, but opposed the proposals to demolish it and redevelop the site. Renovating and reusing It said it was delighted with the decision. Chief executive Simon Thurley said: "This decision proves that the historic environment is about much more than just individual listed buildings - this is an acknowledgement of the many unlisted - but not unloved - buildings which collectively create a powerful sense of place and positively contribute to the fabric of the city." He also said it was inappropriate to demolish the General Market in an era when there was increasing concern about sustainability and said he hoped the City of London would now bring forward plans for renovating and reusing the building. Smithfield has been home to a meat market for centuries, as well as the site of medieval jousting tournaments and St Bartholomew's fair. Many of the market's Victorian buildings are listed. Thornfield Properties said it was "disappointed" by Thursday's decision, adding: "We have been working on this project for more than five years and are committed to carrying it through to planning permission and full development of the site."

Also there's a lot of tax collected from tobacco I mean have you seen how much a packet of 20 costs nowadays it will soon be on a par with the price of a daily heroine addiction? So we shouldn't be lambasting smokers to much(of which our dear old bobby47 is one of) as it is addiction in itself!… Although they could be a lot more thoughtful when disposing of there spent cigaret butts, that I would most certainly agree with! Ps personally it does not bother me whether a person smokes as long as they don't blow the smoke in my face!!

  20. There's nothing new about shared retail space if you take any shopping centre or retail park there all shared space but on a much bigger scale? On a smaller scale you could use the butter market as an example although there all individually owned there still sharing the space under one roof & department stores such as Selfridges will have areas in there clothing sections set aside for individual brands & makes! So personally I have nothing against wyevale doing this if it helps there business?
  21. You can park for 30min in Morrisons without the need to buy a car parking ticket as I do this all the time.…but if parking eye, who are in my opinion a bunch of ******* *******'s? Should ever dare to send me an £85 charge then i will deffo be using it to light the barbie while telling them over the phone to kiss my arse that's for sure!!!!
  22. Our forefathers built some lovely buildings in this city of ours, but just like some poor endangered spices in the wild they are now fast disappearing @ the hands of a reckless cabal!
  23. I see there now saying the building is in a poor condition and fails to comply with a number of current legislative requirements? They didn't say that before Additionally, the unconventional layout results in a congested, inefficient use of space and does not enable such benefits as community access to be provided. A new station would also allow for essential training facilities on site as well as facilities to encourage the growth of the Young Firefighters Association, providing exciting development opportunities for youth in the city. 1: they have managed for 60years with the layout? 2:enable community access wot do they mean by that? 3:they have training facilities @ present station plus they have a new purpose built training centre in Peterchurch?
  24. Well done Aylestone voice for starting a thread on this. I was a bit slow & without realising you had, have now post a Hereford times report on this in the old boys thread!!! Doh
