  1. Yea it's an interesting one that twowheels the fire station being on the list for buildings to be used by NUH?
  2. Yea I did as it happen but now I remember that building used to go there as a kid in the days when buses used to drive down through commercial street!! Such a shame it's still not standing today!!
  3. Yep that's a fine building & the restoration work being done there is a good thing.but your so right megilleland there's no reason why that couldn't be applied to the old boys home even if the council don't want to do it then why not let a private developer have a go? The building has so much potential & in doing so it will look a thousand times more superior than that eyesore there purposing putting in its place!
  4. Megilleland those old photos of the odeon when it first open,it looked a fine building…don't look like that today wot happened?
  5. I think your find I said the government don't like people using cash as it doesn't leave a paper trail & that would go for big business & banks to? obviously they accept cash as it's legal tender! But big businesses like debenhams, waitrose & banks would prefer everyone one to use debit or credit cards is because it's less work involved for them as debenhams etc do not have to count up the thousands of pounds of cash they get through the tills then put it in a security box before being transported in a secruity van to the bank to then be counted up again before finally being banked! Also businesses get charged more to bank cash! As for not leaving a paper trail if cash is used @ the OLM that might happen if it is not rung through the tills & declared properly for wot ever reason then it won't leave a visible paper trail! As your probably not likely to know if that happens or not it could go unnoticed? So far as receipts go unless you run your own business?or are involved in criminal activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering fraud etc? then the authorities are unlikely to look through your finances?!
  6. Yes I agree guys it would help housing needs. I think the council or government should put pressure on those types of owners to help more in the communities with housing where they have vacant properties above there retail units?
  7. Has anyone seen this weeks journal? Cllr Lloyd-Hayes has a piece in it to do with the fire service! I was told today but I've not got this weeks!!
  8. Thanks again megilleland your like a genie in a bottle!…magic! I have to say I did laugh when I read the fire drill as you'd think, if they'd did have a fire @ there gaff? they'd know wot to do? so you couldn't be in safer hands! Where it says use appliances surely they mean fire extinguisher? I know there having to make cuts backs but they can't be really expecting visiting members of the public to man there engines?
  9. Megilleland can you tell me plz are members of the public allowed to attend these meetings?
  10. This is true Aylestone voice but it's a murky deal so we must keep digging to get to the source of it & reasons as it just doesn't add up?!As for planning we need some good valid reasons for objecting so maybe we should also be talking about those reason & why it should be objected? As I for one have never done this or even looked @ a planning applicant before so it would be good to know wot to do in objecting? So I'm all ears for anyone wanting to give some advice in this area?!
  11. You are entitle to your opinion as am I but I don't believe its rubbish as most things are payed by people using either a debit card or credit card you can use your phone to pay for things now & also over the internet! Another example is scrape merchants they are no longer allowed to pay using cash unless they give you a cheque first & then cash it for you! You may say that's because of metal theft but that's only part of the reason. I believe cash will eventually be phased out how long that will be I don't know 10yrs 20yrs or longer???
  12. It might be that they would prefer people to use debit & credit cards as the government don't like people using cash as it doesn't leave a paper trail as that way they can make sure they get all the tax in?
  13. Just thinking about response times to the medieval core the fire in high town occurred 21st of October 2010 & the feasibility report is dated April 2010! So has there response time changed, since the fire happened?
  14. Thank you Aylestone voice you are a gentleman!! How about letting people live in some of the empty space above those business's?
  15. 5 min by my map but they'd probably have an exit coming out by widemarsh common so maybe then it might be down to between 4 & 3 mins?
  16. I don't know dippy but it was I now believe there preferred site? If so you'd have to ask the question is its 2 mins response time to reach the medieval core achievable? & if not then is wot there saying a myth? Thank you dippy for those kind words! we do it cos we luv the old boys home,we luv you & we luv our city but we don't luv the council & there barmy ideologies!!!
  17. Ubique having just read the bill tanner story interesting that cargill meats plan on spending £35m upgrading there Hereford plant? I'm assuming that they still own the faraday rd site? If so then it would seem they are not planning on developing it? But well done Mrs Janet Srodzinske on getting a result!!!
  18. That site off Faraday rd (old sun valley site) would be big enough to house the police & fire service me thinks?
  19. Megilleland your a star shining out brightly on a dark moonless night! Been reading some of the ESG masterplan 2008 & look wot they say about bus station & railway station
  20. No it's not right dippy by a long shot! Also the site list as site 4a I now strongly believe is the old sun valley site which used to be the Corbett block? as this site has been cleared of buildings for a number of years now! The other thing is if it is there first choice? Wouldn't if be further away than 2 mins from high town?
  21. Just a thought but does the OLM have public toilets? Apologise if someone has already touched on this?!
  22. Yes I'd agree with that & 20p ain't that bad it's far better than wetting your pants & getting a fine for urinating in the streets!!
  23. It's a scandal that's for sure but then everything this council seems to do is? There certainly of no help to the emergency services which is appalling in itself!…maybe a public inquiry should be held into there treatment by the council?
  24. Personally I think that high town should have some bars & restaurants around the centre to create a busy lively social meeting place & the OLM should have been kept mostly for shopping?
  25. Thanks dippy I have read it & twowheelsgood explains why only 4 doors but not sure how to link page? Poss megilleland could link page or another kind poster be of some assistance?
