  1. All I can say Denise is that they must use very, very expensive paper indeed,so much so that they have spent all the grass cutting money on it??!!
  2. Thanks ubique your are a gent! Must admit I don't like the sound of how this is gonna work thou especially as I noticed there are 10 conservatives on the panel including the chairman?! & given there leader has little or no love for heritage as he told me not to be so whimsical over old buildings a little while ago.I just hope some in his party take a different view on heritage & that of the memory of the rev john venn & consider the objections to granting planning which I hope there will be many? Seriously so as not to rob the city of an important landmark & send it the way of so many other iconic Hereford buildings!!
  3. Thanks twowheels so there are 20 cllr's on the committee so if it's 10 votes for & 10 votes against then planning won't be granted??
  4. I see so it's our beloved who decided whether it is passed or not! So do they all have to agree it or is it just a majority needed?
  5. Yea there are 10 con, 5 IND, IOC 4 including cllr mark Hubbard & one LD! Megilleland wot will there role be exactly?
  6. Cllr rone went to the same school as I did. he used to run the burger van outside the treacle mine some yrs back. Saw him on Friday as it happens he was delivering take aways in his taxi. Not sure he'd be so comfortable on a bicycle these days thou megilleland?
  7. Bobby if you do ended up in the slammer cos you didn't pay your council tax then I salute you!! But I think you'd be ok if they did decide to lock you up for non payment of the council tax as you remind me of Ronnie Barker's character Fletch in porridge?…"alrite Mr MacKay"
  8. Dear Michael, Would you trust private companies like G4S, Atos or Serco to look after vulnerable children? Or to influence decisions about taking children into care? Protecting children is one of the most difficult and sensitive roles for a government to perform. But education secretary Michael Gove is consulting on whether to outsource this role to profit making companies. [1] If we want to stop this, we don’t have long - the consultation closes this Friday. So far, the issue’s had very little media coverage, and the consultation has barely been publicised. If thousands of us write in today, we can show Michael Gove that we’re watching - and make sure he drops these plans. Please can you write to the consultation today: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/childprotection Decisions by child protection professionals affect lives and can break up families, these decisions should be kept miles away from any hint of a profit motive. Adoption services have already been protected from privatisation. And there’s no evidence to suggest that outsourcing services is a good idea anyway. [2] The government’s proposal argues that letting private companies provide children’s services will encourage innovation.[3] But we all saw the mess that G4S made of providing security at the Olympics, would we really want them to care for vulnerable children’s lives? Experts have already voiced outrage at the plans, now we need to hammer the message home with people power. [4] Previously when 38 Degrees members have responded to Michael Gove’s consultations, our voices have been heard loud and clear. Last year, he dropped his plans to remove climate change from school curriculums after we wrote in our thousands to oppose them. [5] Can you write into the consultation and help stop these plans today: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/childprotection Thanks for everything you do Robin, Ali, Blanche and the 38 Degrees team NOTES: [1] The Guardian - Privatise child protection services, Department for Education proposes: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/may/16/privatise-child-protection-services-department-for-education-proposes [2] Public Finance - Child protection: not for sale: http://opinion.publicfinance.co.uk/2014/05/child-protection-not-for-sale/ [3] The government proposal: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/304660/Powers_to_Delegate_Con_Doc.pdf [4] The Guardian - Child protection services too important to be privatised: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/may/16/child-protection-privatised [5] 38 Degrees blog - Victory: Climate change will stay in the curriculum: http://blog.38degrees.org.uk/2013/07/09/victory-climate-change-will-stay-in-the-curriculum
  9. I didn't even have a clue this was even being discussed until I received a email from 38 degrees informing & for me it's a none starter it shouldn't be allowed to happen!! I will post up the email so folks can have a read.
  10. I think Michael Gove is despicable to even consider letting private companies make money out of vulnerable kids! they need the right sort of help not some shareholders getting rich out of them just because they've had a tough start out in life!!

  12. I agree whole heartily with that Colin how can a private company who are out to make a profit be cheaper than the council doing it themselves???
  13. Yes but we also have all the boys from THE WHO DARES WINS regiment past & present!! Many of whom are unknown to the outside world other than by there motto & the three letter symbol of SAS!!! but like myself I'm sure many locals will know a few of the guys personally? So I nominate the SAS for the tough job they do!!!
  14. I see they've had a fire in the Norfolk town of Fakenham it was a large fire in the town centre. I wonder how long it will take them to repair the damage? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-27564523
  15. No worries flam I know exactly how you feel about the wasting of money. funding has been cut in the wrong places central government should address where the money is being wasted & put an end to it? if they did that & diverted the money to where it was really needed then, there would be no need for cuts to frontline services? We can all see where it's being wasted??but those who govern us can't why is that? Have they become?or have they always been so detached from the real world while living up in there ivory towers that they have forgotten or more likely never known wot life is really like for most folks???
  16. To right it is dippy unfortunately I can be some wot lacking in that department?!…wellies yes a good idea to wear them when it's wet especially if you happen to be walking through a stream…but no I wouldn't recommend wearing them if you happen to find yourself on a roof thou!!!
  17. Flam I totally agree with wot your saying absolutely 100% I just hope if any of them have a conscious or moral upstanding then they should start to stand up & be counted? as this is not democracy we have @ present that's for sure the concerns of the people are not taken seriously enough let alone our views? except until they want our vote things have got to change!!!!!!!
  18. No afraid I'm not reel, but I will look forward to seeing the pic of it thou,. especially as as I'm not able to go view it in the flesh, due to it not being there anymore?! No Garrick house may not have been a great architectural marvel but the slates they destroyed from off that roof well that was just sacrilege!!! Glad you like the OLM but personally I think they could have created something more architecturally pleasing thou?
  19. I'm working then too & tomorrow…I think I must have been a rotten sod in a previous life as it feels like I'm being punished for it right now?! Lol
  20. I will! I know, I've been out working in it all day!!…bloody soaked I was!!!
  21. Hi dippy I left a question for cllr Liz Harvey as why they never looked @ the land swap deal? on the HT website no answer as yet!
  22. Don't worry it happens all the time in Hereford the council in particular luv knocking buildings down new or old did the same with Garrick house built it 20yrs later they knocked it down going to do the same with the old working boys home although it's structurally sound. So as they can build a new fire station in a conservation area?? You could say it's all because they luv wasting other peoples money? Don't now much about your old school thou? best person to ask is megilleland he's a wizard when it comes to finding out info!!!
  23. Wot gets me is that the likes of Cameron Osborne & co go on about people sponging off the state i.e the unemployed, disabled etc yet they don't look @ those who run the local authorities & council who are in it for themselves & treat it as there very own personal cash cow to milk dry when ever it suits them, then turn round & say there's no money left to give to frontline services which is where it's need most! so until central government takes a whole new look @ how budgets & those who spend it are run & then take a radical new approach to changing the present system I'm afraid nothing will change & money will continue to be shovelled down a bottomless pit & wasted by those who run & manage our services?! So plz someone shoot the cash cow!!!
