  1. The bard wire does not stop people climbing over the fence until they come into contact with it . One type of incident which comes to mind is kids playing football alongside this fence and their ball goes over the fence , one of the first things a kid will do is to try and reclaim his ball . Not a criminal offence but the kid could be injured. Likewise a cat could also be injured climbing over. Having said all that I would protect my property in anyway I could to prevent "criminals" from entering it. There are legal ways to use bard wire on a fence.
  2. I'm with Denise on this one - Section 164, clause (1) of the Highways Act 1980 states the following: Power to require removal of barbed wire Where on land adjoining a highway there is a fence made with barbed wire, or having barbed wire in or on it, and the wire is a nuisance to the highway, a competent authority may by notice served on the occupier of the land require him to abate the nuisance within such time, not being less than one month nor more than 6 months from the date of service of the notice, as may be specified in it. The term ‘barbed wire’ has been interpreted to mean anything with spikes or jagged projections and this would include any made aggressive topping or addition to a wall or fence including carpet gripper, broken glass, nails and preparatory products such as plastic and metal spikes. The term ‘nuisance’ has been interpreted to mean something that is likely to cause injury to people and animals using the highway and most highway authorities consider things that can cause injury lower than 2.4m to be a nuisance. If you fall foul of this law you will be issued with a notice requiring you to remove the danger within a specific time period.

Stacy , my sincere condolences for your sad loss. It's very commendable what you are doing after such a sad time .I can fully understand why you are. I can only agree with Biomech that the sooner you make application for Charity status or join up with a local Charity which is acceptable to you and your aims the more trusting people will be - having said that , I do not believe that you are trying to con the public in any way ,shape or form . I will be in contact with your website in the near future. It's such a wonderfull initiative which must succeed .
  4. I do find it utterly amazing that the HT receive the same press release as members of the public who register with WM Police but rarely publish the important relevant bits , the HT report on their website omits the description of the alleged offender , details in Colin's post.
  5. Think that it's more exciting if we do not know the destination , just follow the front of the VW and be guided by Bobbies thoughts . We will stop in towns and get Bobby to make speeches on street corners to get the petrol money.
  6. I know that it's a mystery tour but I expect we will finish up in Glastonbury or Stonehenge ?
  7. Mrs Ubique would probably say that when she met me 57 years ago I was of a very similar nature - she trained me to her liking, I think!
  8. She is a good sort! If it's got ,or started life with 4 legs she will care for it , even spiders with more legs are rescued.
  9. Bobby , must say in defence of hedgehogs that badgers are their only predeters ( other than some sections of the human race ). Mrs Ubique is caring for 12 hedgehogs who were not of the correct weight to hibernate last October , they will be released next April time in non badger areas.
  10. Just wondering if Bobby arrived at the Bird Sanctuary and if so did he eat turkey for Christmas?
  11. Megilleland - thanks again for a very comprehensive reply / found it very interesting .
  12. Thanks Megilleland for taking the time / trouble to do that research
  13. I have no problem with CCTV , fully aware that it needs funding from somewhere , Just wondering where the PCC gets the money from - is it Central Government or closer to home ?
  14. We need a book published of Grid Knockers and Bobby's wonderful stories both true and not so true plus Dippy' poems . They are all classics .
  15. Grid knocker , that is a super story , thanks for sharing it with us.
  16. 100 th Post .... With all theses potholes around the County , some of them really dangerous both for cyclists and cars why , Oh why did the Council contractors and BB spend all week preparing and tarmacking the whole length of the single lane road running between the entrance to Stretton Nursing Home and the road which runs between the Bell PH at Tillington and Credenhill , a distance of over 500m . No more than 20 vehicles a day use this road. Unbelievable waste of time and money. - our money .
  17. Bobby ,one of these days you will say exactly what you mean rather than , as now , mellowing the story . Having said that , what you have printed are super thoughts for our consideration .
  18. What I would like to add to this discussion about potholes is that the Council ( I know it's BB that dun it) have just spent the last 5 days preparing and completely tarmacking part of Crowmoor Lane Tillington , a distance of at least 500 yards. It's the narrow lane that runs between the entrance to Stretton Nursing home and the road which runs between the Bell PH and Credenhill. This lane must take all of 20 vehicles a day . Did it need doing , maybe , but nowhere near the top of the list . Secondly the Council ( BB) have just spent £12000 clearing the Travellers site on the bend just prior to entering Burghill , it needed clearing but ............, I will go and say that our Cllr has suggested that the cleared site should be sown with Poppies and other wild flower seed to commentate the start of WW1 , as a Regional Volunteer I agree 100% with her, however somebody must obtain a licence to cultivate from the Council - guess what , the licence costs in the region of £200 , plus £5million insurance cover etc etc.
  19. Hey Dippy , perhaps the "Security Officer" wants to become " The Whitecross Crusader " and he only lacking ( he thinks ) a cape to complete his uniform . He only has his eye on your Fairtrade poncho to complete his uniform. As an aside , having stood in the Foyer of the Store for the Poppy Appeal I am amazed at the SO apparent lack of training , the alarms on the exit doors are for every going off and from what I witnessed he was only picking on little old grandmas to search their shopping.
  20. I can understand your concerns Bobby , Landlords have both a legal and moral responsibility to their tenants - this also included working with the Council and the Benefit Agency . I do wonder how many of the residents are claiming Housing Benefits from HCC for the same address in the full knowledge that it takes so long to be detected and if found out they will just move on to green pastures.
  21. Come on Glenda , treat the pub as neutral land , it will be lovely to meet you . All I hope is that wives , husbands ,Partners of Poster will be invited too. .?
  22. Further out from the City you have the Tillington Trotters , Credenhill Crocks and the Burghill Bills ( no need to say who they are !)
  23. I'm back , initially thought that the HT nasty gremlins had spoken to Colin . Having said that , I was unable to upload my previous photograph , stating that it was too big .So I have added the apron that I wear when I visit the Doctor who said that my drinking habits record me as a binge drinker ....... My drinking habits are as follows - no alcohol Monday through to Friday , on Saturday Mrs Ubique and I drink a bottle of reasonable priced red wine from Aldi , it's the same on Sunday . This Saturday it may well be called binge drinking as Mrs Ubique and I have been married for 50 years , we are so proud of that fact - let the party begin - please don't tell my doctor. For those who cannot read my apron it reads " I'm dreaming of a white Christmas , and when that's gone I will start on the red ! "
  24. Ubique! Where has your profile picture disappeared to?? Not sure what is happening , I did try and change it yesterday but the photograph I chose , me in my Father Christmas outfit at a local school ( there are other imposers ) but it was to big ? To use so I presumed that me as a youngster would remain . I will check it out later. As far as I am aware I am still there in all my glory !
  25. Biomech , a very well thought article , speaking to a local Councillor this morning , brought up the toilet issue , this Cllr reports that Coach Companies have reduced their visits to the City because of this , we are all aware that after a journey one of the first port of call is a toilet , Coach Companies are not receiving any support / suggestions from the Council as to where to park where there are public toilets. Re car parks , up to about 3 years ago the over 65 could obtain a 2 hour "free parking" permit from HCC on payment of £10 per year. I had one from the age of 69. ( only because I didn't know about the system !). I have noticed that since the Permit was withdrawn the car park I used a regular basis ( West St ) is now never full , always has plenty of parking bays. Previously it was always at least three quarters full to full. So the Council are not getting the £10 nor are they getting the public using the public car parks. I always use the free cars parks and if necessary walk into town - so the benefit to me is saving money and exercise . Perhaps the permits were too cheap , restart them and charge £20 / £30 a year. Even just make it for the over 70 , perhaps I am being selfish !
