  1. Agree Roger. There are several UKIP things that I am concerned about one of which is fracking. If it goes ahead on a grand scale there needs to be strict regulation on its operation and transparency on what chemicals these fracking companies want to chuck down their drilling holes. On another matter locally, concerning the working boys home, how many councillors have wised up and read the 480 comments on Hereford Voice. I don't think many have, the majority base their decisions on party lines and direction. We need councillors who can listen, read behind the hidden agendas and serve the public honestly. I like Nigel Farage. He always answers the questions put to him and because of the pressure to discredit him through the media every day, he is enjoying an unparalleled amount of publicity for his party. Good luck to him - after all you do not need any experience to be in politics just the votes.
  2. This report The Farrell Review of Architecture and the Built Environment was mentioned at the Hereford Civ‭c Society last week. "The publication of the Farrell Review is an opportune moment to take stock, consider new thinking and identify areas to address in the challenges facing architecture and the built environment. Good quality places matter, and the Review quite rightly identifies the value of a PLACE (Planning, Landscape, Architecture, Conservation and Engineering) based approach to secure the benefits of good design". It is an interesting report to read - both the report on consultation and the conclusions and recommendations. 3.CULTURAL HERITAGE pps 67 to 75 Our built environment past, present and future Here are some snippets: Our built environment shapes our identity collectively as unique communities and as individuals. As Winston Churchill said, “We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us.†It is the everyday places in which we all live that link our culture and identity. also “The distinction between historical and recent is redundant. All that is past is our history. That which is most ancient is likely to be valued more highly because of its rarity, and because less is recorded. Our recent history may prove to be enormously important to future generations so we should attempt at least to anticipate this.†Steven Bee (conversation with Farrell Review team) and “Buildings that aren’t listed should still be addressed in terms of their impact on the public realm. We should be less precious about the backs of buildings and think more about their fronts in terms of their contribution to the streetscape.†Hank Dittmar (Farrell Review Expert Panel meeting) Some of the worst design impacts over the past fifty years have been from road schemes, with over-engineered junctions and intrusive signage ignoring the context of streets where public life is played out. Places would be greatly improved if the people who make decisions about our built environment, such as planning committee members and highway engineers, were empowered by training in design literacy. Newly elected councillors who already receive mandatory training on financial and legal duties should receive placemaking and design training at the same time. In order to achieve this, there needs to be a momentous sea change led by professionals to better inform and educate those who make the all-important decisions. After all, it is in all our interests to ensure that every person responsible for making decisions about the built environment is able to read plans at the very least.
  3. Hello Roger. Here's 96 pages for you to read. Just a bit too much to put on the back of a stamp. OUT OF THE EU - INTO THE WORLD THE UK DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN A POLITICAL UNION IN ORDER TO TRADE AND OTHER INCONVENIENT TRUTHS Out of EU.pdf
  4. I think I will pop along this Wednesday evening and see what they have to say for themselves. I think they are worth supporting over the EU, but it would be useful to know where they stand in the forthcoming local elections. We don't wnat them to split the independent and IOC votes so that the cons get back in - that would be too much.

  9. Hereford Times: 3:39pm Thursday 17th April 2014 in News By Bill Tanner If we are to have "Localism" can anyone explain how Neighbourhood Plans are applied to the city wards? It appears the county council are only interested in rural parishes. Is the city council doing anything about this?
  10. Hereford Times: 6:00am Sunday 20th April 2014 in News By James Forrest I think the money is available - it's just spent elsewhere.
  11. Hereford Times: NEWS RSS FEED 6:02am Sunday 20th April 2014 in News Why is this a prerequisite. Is it about planning or finance?
  12. 17th April 2014 No planning applications affecting the city this week
  13. Interesting applications concerning Left Bank, Cyclelink and land to the east of Aylestone Hill. Not sure where you find the online comment form?
  14. Just come back from a Civic Society meeting where a professional architect said that in his 40 years of living in Herefordshire he has yet to meet a county councillor with any vision. I would go as far to say that those who think they possess any vision are already blinkered. I couldn't see what he was talking about!
  15. Council approves land and building transfer 15 April 2014 Herefordshire Council Newsroom I can see a public inquiry on the horizon.
  16. I read this diatribe and it felt like I was sitting in a traffic jam getting nowhere. I am really concerned that we are being run by people who haven't a clue on communicating with the public and cannot tell us in plain English what they plan to do. No doubt this smoke screen is what they are directed to do by those above ie central government and these LTBs themselves haven't a clue what their role is in this pantomine of jargon. Not long now before our local councils are wound up, with all assets sold and responsibilities transferred elsewhere. I'll be down at the polling station on 22nd May and voting to get out of the EU, where all this nonsense is generated, and the we know what is best for you approach. I can here them saying: "Just pay your council tax, national taxes and EU subscription (£55 million a day) and shut up.
  17. Unfortunately this is the way we are going. It is being promoted by the government through a project called Locality. Unless you are on the list of key figures who views are sort, the authorities wont want to speak to you.
  18. Do you want to stay in Europe or get out. Today is your chance to tell the politicians what you think.
