  1. Well this is going to be a biggy and no doubt employers are already reviewing contracts of employment. For some like myself who work from home and travel to meet people the EU has stated that work starts as soon as you leave the house and finishes I believe once you return home which for many runs well over a 48 hour week and therefore in breach of the working time directive. I'm sure that megilleland will provide further info but this has major implications for employers and "people of the road".
  2. The days of a "free of charge"or "subsidized services" are long gone. I,m pleased that other companies have stepped in but the long term future of such services has to be in doubt because of the cost. It's great getting on a bike if your local, but one day the mind and body start to fall out over the realities of putting foot to the pedal! The future of community/village public transport lies with locally based village share schemes but that takes a few committed individuals and sadly people will moan about what is ....but do nothing about contributing to a positive solution.
  3. I like it but we are starting to see a lot of empty commercial space and the current two buildings these services are using will join the list with Bath Street offices and let's not forget the First depot....maybe West Midlands Ambulance Service might fancy that?
  4. Once again Colin another great image and ya right as prices go we don't do badly. I was down at the Saracens,Symonds Yat the other day which was absolutely stuffed but I think I may have paid more for a pint.
  5. Yes Pete , I had a series 3 SWB 2.2 petrol with free wheeling hubs. I sold it for more than I paid for it but regretted it ever since. The wife hated it for all the reasons well known, comfort, lack of heating and noise! For me though it was an escape.
  6. Unfortunately my understanding is that currently most of our 'reception centre's ' are already full as the processing of an individual's right to stay takes a long time. The government is not prepared and has actually been caught on the back foot. Because of cuts there is very little slack in the system be it support from charities, social welfare, housing, healthcare, police even military and this with only a small number of visible migrants seeing UK shores. We are witnessing dark times and only today I overheard a conversation in a hospital restaurant between a number of multi national docs and it was the only topic ..all agreed that any additional pressures in the healthcare system could break it. I know my learned friend AV would say that I,m scaremongering but years of cuts have brought us to this place and without opening up the government kitty once again if anyone could offer suggestions about additional resources please let me know. Most of us are hoping for non eventful weather events this winter.
  7. Just for info a fair few landies are being stolen at the moment particularly Defenders and the old series. Another one was stolen last night in Much Cowerne Vehicle Reg:K319KEX
  8. Thanks Ubique the number is noted! There is a good piece about Hedgehogs in September,s issue of Ledbury Focus and my monies on the the cheeky chappie whose made it to the calender on Countryfile this year. Apart from the obvious problems like strimmers and slug pellets we have in the past sent hogs to the vets with gastro intestinal problems.
  9. Perhaps I used MTV as a bad analogy because I'm not making reference to what a woman wears however marketing companies in retail and music are very quick to sell a product to men or women with good looking people being part of the presentation. You yourself Rebecca made a comment recently about being refused a taxi and having to walk home instead. This concerned you did it not because you were a single female on there own....I never considered for a moment what you were wearing?
  10. Hi Mick Sadly I will stand by it...It's an observation my observation and the great thing about this site is that it can be said. There are some men in our society who feel that they can do whatever they like and to whom. They are not afraid of the system or the Police because policing these days is very much a virtual one. I would only hope that my daughter would be sensible enough to avoid putting herself in a position of danger. Today sadly if she were to get on a train on her own from Birmingham in the late hours she would be doing just that. It's not right she should have the freedom to dress and go wherever, whenever she likes. The law says she can however the realities of life are very different.
  11. Actually Victor you can tell he,s old school Labour because if he was a Blairite he would have used "spin". The statement would have been worded around the creation of enhanced safe zones on train carriages which is perhaps more palatable.
  12. True Rebecca but there are times that I think we have reverted back to a time far earlier than "Ripper Street" days. I know they are only music videos but the majority of those shown on MTV these days have 'the tune itself, scantily clad good looking girls and men with their tops off! In getting their video across they cross many a line in relation to attitudes and expectation the messages of which can be misinterpreted by many. Around our city urban rail or bus networks it would not even be an option for a woman travelling on her own late at night....you would seek alternative arrangements.
  13. Well it's an interesting one Victor because we had this discussion at home last night and concluded that during the day it would be a no and probably not feasible however after a certain hour in the evening it may not be such a bad idea.
  14. My fault...felt it was a short topic on its own.
  15. Interestingly enough I tried to email Ron Smith because I'm after an inverter back up Honda Generator and the Honda site gave me the address. It bounced back.
  16. Sorry this old chestnut but can anyone tell me if they have noticed a change in the phasing of the traffic lights near the butchers at the St.Owen Street/Bath Street/Mill Street Junction. I came out of St.Owen Street today and moved over to the right hand side as I was heading towards the Fire Station on the left. Normally the lights go green with a filter first for the left hand lane only today that was missing. Unfortunately the lack of white line definition these days means that some vehicles new to the area may feel that they can drive on from the left hand side and this was demonstrated today with a non local trade van driving across from the left blasting his horn at all the bemused drivers on the right including me. Has the phasing changed anyone?

The same for me ...after all a grade 1 on three strands of hair, how difficult is that!

But there again Colin in your case like mine only a couple minutes are needed!😀
  19. I'm sure that the Superintendent did her best to assure those that attended the meeting that everything is being done to catch those responsible however Roger is right in that budgets have been slashed and resources for sleepy old Hereford are limited. It's mostly run by Community Support Officers these days with a good few Specials thrown in. When you get to the rank of super the muddy world of politics form part of the job description. It's a bloody difficult job keeping Joe Public and the Assistant Chiefs happy, let alone the bean counters and then of course their is your own career. Eventually though this Government and Home Secretary will make up with the national force and provide more financial resources...they will have to! Let's hope for justice soon.
  20. This image would suggest that it's a relatively safe area whereas over here in Tupsley I better start thinking of that alarm! Seriously though Roger the thing with stats ...is what conditions create them after all over here we may have a very proactive special?
  21. Agreed Roger...Arrived back into the County late so picked up on meeting based on blog.
  22. I also note the comment made on the site from wyecider. Very keen to get a perspective from those on the forum that attended as it appears there were a few.
  23. Ahh Portugal another fine place. ...explorer, shopping centre...Yes I see the link. I think we have become accustomed to the instant access ideal.
  24. I agree with you Colin however in some ways Adrian is right because there never seems to be a break these days! I went to a long established garden centre last Sunday and as my wife and I attempted to reach the coffee shop we panned across to see the Christmas cards and crackers starting to find shelf space! We were saddened actually because the coffee shop was closed, much of the internal floor space was soaked and large areas sectioned off because of the leaking roof. We felt very sorry for those who pay for retail space. Sadly this garden centre chain has seen better days and to think this is the flagship site..where it all started. Shame
