  1. West Mercia Housing have said half the houses will go to vets, we wait and see.
  2. just shows that our local politicians do not listen, I sent an e-mail to JN saying that as a member of the ruling party he should hang his head in shame, this was following a visit to the day case unit at the County Hospital; to visit a friend who was quite ill and spent a week in the day case unit, it was 3rd world conditions in which the staff struggled to cope, god bless them, my friend even had to give up his bed one night and sleep on a trolley, I informed JN that I was know an ex conservative voter, his reply was the e-mail asking me to help him get re elected. no wonder we are in such a mess.
  3. I agree with biomech, there was a news article on the TV yesterday and as the presenter walked along a street of terraced houses all you could see was a forest of dirty wheelie bins. It once took the council over 4 weeks to empty the overflowing bin outside of St Martins School it involved phone calls to the council and the local member. I was told that nothing could be done until an inspector had visited and that he was busy, also that as they school was closed then there was no need to empty it, evan though it was full on the last day of term, keeping our city clean and tidy is not a new problem and if you live in certain areas you are at the bottom of the pile.
  4. Just been told that Bar spirit is closing, unconfirmed at the moment but apparently the info came from the owner.
  5. Something I forgot to mention, if the crime map is produced as evidence it is always worth pointing out that the locations of crimes given are not exact, they are approximate locations and in some cases the reported scene may have been misrepresented on the map by the Police to ensure protection to a victim, and I must say that I fully support the misrepresentation for this reason, so if you're up before the beak or the council, demand proof that the crimes actually were close to your premises, and that the crimes reported are relevant to your particular case, the map is being presented as evidence in a Criminal Case the standard of proof is much higher than a Civil Case but never the less it is evidence and it must be credible.
  6. I would like to agree with the comments made supporting late night eating and its relationship with alcohol consumption, it is up to the Police, Council and Licensees to all play their part and to ensure our Freedom to move around this city and to eat when it suits us and not when the petty minded jumped up officials say we can, remember freedom? Another point to remember is that the Police, council and licensees all draw their money from the public's pockets so should all be serving the greater public and not allowing the few to spoil it for the rest, something they tend to forget. Within reason the only restriction on when and where food, hot or cold should be served should be made on a commercial basis, therefore hopefully providing urgently needed jobs for the young people of our city who really do need the support in every measure from the various councillors and council employees. I'm so glad that Councillor Vaughan Powell was a member of the committee that allowed the Public House in Eign Road to re open we must all bow down before her and the others for such mercies. I notice that the councillor ignored the hinton hitmans request to see the results of the enquiries she made with her electorate to support the no food after 1:30am rule so may be he has a point or two to be made. I totally agree with him that John Newman was a fantastic councillor who worked hard for his residents and indeed the city and when approached by myself as the Local Beat Bobby asking for his assistance for members of the public, he never failed. Yes the pubs clubs and restaurants and eating places have an extremely important part to play in this city and its future, I believe it was the current Prime Minister who said it would be the small businesses who would drag this country out of recession, so lets give them a chance in Hereford.
  7. I noticed when passing yesterday that shop no 3 on Collins list , the old Subway shop on the corner of Commercial and Blueschool has some work going on , it looks as if someone is doing it so may be a good sign, also Callandras has moved from East Street to Church Street so he has not gone out of business, He is well worth a visit stocking some good gear. It will be interesting to count how many units are empty now including Maylords as individual units and how many are empty in say 12 months and again 18 months after the new development opens , maybe the best way to find out is a freedom of information request to the council? they must have all the up to date info. I like flamboyant's idea Maylords would be a good place for it or may be the old Chadds. I still think that it is going to be the pubs and restaurants who will save our city, provided they get the right assistance from the council in the form of reasonable business rates etc and help with deliveries, the parking for deliver drivers in this town is a joke.
  8. Nice one Jim, well done, as for blocking the traffic, I don't think we need to bother this week end, Hereford will do it for us.
  9. Spot on Biomech, gave you a green arrow for that one, how about we all drive to Edgar Street Roundabout, go round and round while we figure out the road marking sounding our horns, a little display of civic disapproval for the council to digest. When I say the people of Hereford I mean more than the 180 or so on this site, I know the numbers are here somewhere just have to find the info without loosing my place. We have to get out there, I have supported Colin's campaign to get the lights off on Belmont Road for some time so forgive me for not wading through 5 pages of the forum to find out that Hereford Reunited No Lights Equal Rights had moved on from traffic lights and now encompasses the wider traffic issues. I would give myself a red arrow but fortunately I am prevented from doing so by the lack of one but I am sure a few members will help me out, maybe one of my councillor fans.
  10. I have to ask the question , is it not about time that we the Hereford people got organised and started a protest group to try and get something done about the absolutely horrendous traffic situation in the City? All members of the community should get involved, we all need the emergency services to be able to reach us in times of need, we would all like to pass around the city in a safe reasonable time, regardless of what our chosen mode of transport is, and was it not the conservative prime minister who said that it would be the small business's that would drive this country out of recession?, that one must have got past the conservative members of the various councils who govern us, you try delivering around the town with its gridlock traffic, unhelpful parking attendants and some very out dated parking restrictions. The council policy of driving motorists out of Hereford is bonkers to say the least, yes they do with parking restrictions, refusing to allow business to build car parks, and driving the parking problems out on to the estates, you try driving up Hinton Crescent its blocked by cars parking to avoid the charges in town. Do councillors still have the right to free parking?they did when I worked for the council, many a weekend saw councillors parking in the rear of Garrick House so that they could take their families shopping. As a council employee I was also entitled to free parking and was given a permit to park in the swimming pool car park when I worked in Garrick House, I live in Hollybush walk so that was very useful We need people to come and spend their hard earned and limited cash on goods and services, not spending hours in traffic jams to pay ridicules parking charges and for our local trades people to be able to transact business in a free and easy manner which allows growth and jobs. Their are job opportunities, Paul the ex Treacle mine Burger Van could open a mobile cart selling food and drink to the people waiting on the Belmont and Ross roads, full English for me. I believe that it will be the pubs and restaurants and other eating places that will save this city next year so lets get behind them and create footfall and jobs, The council seem to be shoehorning in more developments in to an area in which the infrastructure is failing at every level, I see that there is another back street housing development in the pipe line, more cars more people more traffic misery. Public Transport is poor to say the least, the state of the roads is abysmal, our councillors are rubbish , all to eager to give excuses as to why they have not done something and ready to blame someone else, I just wish they would man up ( or woman, equal rights for all) join together regardless of what political party they support on the day and simply put the citizens of Hereford first for once instead of the petty minded squabbles that they all engage in for their own satisfaction and self importance and to get their pictures in the paper again
  11. I went to shop at Tesco Belmont, I left at about 1205hrs and reached St Martins Street at 1235hrs, :Cha ching: apparently a lorry had broken down going north over the new bridge and blocked the nearside I lane near to the junction with Barton Road, I'm glad that I retired from the Police Force as it must be hell for the services trying to achieve the target response times set by the government , surely its time that our crime commissioner got stuck in to the government, its just another reason why we need to complain.
  12. Good Job Colin, while I'm on, I've been trying to big my reputation up with some extra points so, can you put the little green arrow on my profile, no need for the red one. All the best Phil.
  13. Perhaps the ducks got fed up with not being able to purchase hot food after 0130hrs and moved to Worcester.
  14. Thanks for the info, I will contact the school opposite to see if they are involved.
  15. Can any one out there tell me where aluminium foil, aluminium trays etc, can be recycled? I e-mailed the council a few months ago with this question and received a standard long winded reply which in a long winded way said, we don't do it and no real reply to the question why not, it seems criminal that in this day and age we are throwing valuable metals into landfill. I could take it down to Portsmouth, my home town where it can be recycled through a church charity but it is not often that I get down there.
  16. Like I said on face book, when out on the beer at midnight , or roaming the streets looking for my local councillor (any idea what political party his is supporting this week?) I need to know what time these toilets are open, at my age when I need to go , I need to go.
  17. Sorry it,s taken so long to reply, I don't get out much theses days as I am tied up with charity work, but I don't shout about it, unlike some who get lots of expense's for what they do. So I went for a walk the other day, ( its not my fault that you shut yourself away and do not walk the streets looking for me. quote from Chris Chappell), well I went for a walk, I fell down a pot hole, got run over trying to cross the road between the cars parked on the pavement, watched as the opposing car drivers argued as to who should back up in Hinton Crescent due to all the people from the town centre who do not want to pay the expensive parking charges parking on both sides and making it almost a no go area, some residents have acquired traffic cones which they put out in order to try and park somewhere near to their houses, I did,t go to the Challenge Church as I feel that someone should support the Hinton Community Centre, also the same for going to the Academy, Why is Chris Chappell not on the board of governors at St Martins School? I,m glad that he is available one day a month, perhaps the police, fire service ambulance, armed forces etc should follow suit and save us all some money, anywat I must go as I STILL HAV,T FOUND THE ELUSIVE MAN WHO APPARENTY IS OUT ON THE STREETS
  18. Chill out, it won't belong before its not worth going out in the day time, let alone after dark, a few more shop closures, shut a couple more car parks along with the extra congestion caused by the partial closure of Newmarket street and bobs your uncle, town centre closed ,no problem. Come and spend the day in Hereford, Park in the park and ride and spend a happy time sat on the bus in the traffic trying to get back into town (Christmas only), visit the Bandstand, the Radcliffe Water Gardens, the Paddling Pool, teach your kids to swim at the LEA pool instead of the river, visit the Race Course (which some councillors want turned over to houses), sit in high town under the trees, as long as you don't want to use the bog. Have a great time in the supermarkets and charity shops while we chop down a few more trees. What is the slogan on the hoardings around the new shopping development? something like City living Country life, (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). I wish they would do an ASDA and roll me back to the late 70's, what a great place Hereford was then, plenty of life and full of people, although some things do not change, I remember the Councillor (Mr Chips) trying to use the police to close a burger van near by, as it seemed his customers preferred the van to his shop. Still as long as they pat themselves on the back and say well done to each other, regardless of which political party they happen to support on the day, then I say our councillors are well worth the money.
  19. Its so long since anyone in Hinton saw him we thought he was dead, suppose he had to do something to grab a headline as he has done nothing else for years, he has done the labour party a great service by this action and the independents will suffer.
