    HEDGEHOGS

    Ubique
    By Ubique,

Some of you will know that Mrs U runs a Hedgehog Rescue from our home in Tillington.

    Hollycroft Hedgehog Rescue 01432 769375.

Over the last couple of weeks it has become very apparent that finders of hedgehogs are not sure what to do if they see one out in the day so this is what she would like you to do please.

If you find a small hedgehog, or one lying out in the day.. DON'T IGNORE IT.. IT NEEDS HELP NOW! not tomorrow. ( Hedgehogs do not sunbathe )

Do not leave it to see if it will go away.

Do not stick it under a hedge.

Pick it up, put it in a DEEP box or carrier with towels or an old fleece jumper,

    KEEP IT WARM and quiet.

Call a Hedgehog Rescue immediately . Of course if it appears injured please take it to a Vet , there should be no charge and once treated they will pass the 'hog onto a Hedgehog Rescue.

Please do not give it anything to eat until you have spoken to somebody, you can offer it a shallow bowl of water only.

Please remember these hedgehogs DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME.

Tesco To Give Surplus Food To Charity

    Colin James
    By Colin James,

Fair play to Tesco and what a great idea!

    Tesco.jpg

Tesco has finalised a deal to give all surplus food from its stores to charity.

The UK’s biggest grocery chain hopes to involve 5,000 local charities and groups in an initiative that aims to eradicate food waste and help vulnerable people.

The retailer’s latest figures show 55,400 tonnes of food were thrown away at its stores and distribution centres in the UK last year, of which around 30,000 tonnes could otherwise have been eaten – equivalent to around 70 million meals.

The plan is a nationwide roll-out of a 14-store pilot called the Community Food Connection, which over the last six months has generated more than 22 tonnes of food, the equivalent of 50,000 meals.

It operates by using a digital open platform called FareShare FoodCloud that allows store staff and charities to liaise to distribute surplus food.

It launches in 15 cities and regions this week, including Manchester, Birmingham, Southampton and Portsmouth, and will cover all stores by the end of 2017.

Tesco and FareShare are appealing for 5,000 charities and community groups to join up and receive the food.

Tesco is also calling on other retailers to adopt FareShare FoodCloud to create an industry-wide platform.

The initiative also includes the launch of a new ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ range of so-called wonky vegetables that previously may have been thrown away and will be on sale at low prices, in line with several other grocers.

Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis said: ‘We believe no food that could be eaten should be wasted. That’s why we have committed that no surplus food should go to waste from our stores.

‘We know it’s an issue our customers really care about, and wherever there’s surplus food at Tesco stores, we’re committed to donating it to local charities so we can help feed people in need.

‘But we know the challenge is bigger than this and that’s why we’ve made a farm to fork commitment to reduce food waste upstream with our suppliers and in our own operations and downstream in our customers’ own homes.’

FareShare chief executive Lindsay Boswell said: ‘We are delighted to be offering our store level solution in partnership with Tesco who are demonstrating real leadership in tackling food surplus.

‘FareShare FoodCloud is a natural extension of our work together which has already provided nine million meals to help feed vulnerable people.’

NHS Customer Service could do better .

    Ubique
    By Ubique,

Before I get verbally attacked by posting mine and Mrs Ubiques experience with the NHS today I will add that until today we have always been very satisfied with the service we received , having said that , the last time I was in Hereford Hospital was in 1968 - I accept that I have been blessed with fairly good health . Mrs U has has a series of operations over the last 35 years but still retains good health .

Today I had a Dental Appointment ( NHS checkup ) at 10.10am , Mrs U had a County Hospital appointment at 11.30 . It would take us 15 / 20 minutes to cross town , park in Rogers supermarket car park for a £1 and walk across to the hospital . Well that was the plan .

I reported for my dental appointment at 10am ready for my 10.10 appointment , reported in and told to wait in the Waiting Room . At 1045am , 35 minutes after my appointment I had to go to reception and say that as I had to get my wife to the hospital on time ( she was , quite understandably getting a bit stressed ) it was apparent that I would not be able to have the checkup and drive Mrs U to the hospital for her 11.30 appointment.

Well , we arrived at the hospital at 11.20 , my wife wasn't sure where to go so she approached the lady on Reception ( not one of the lovely volunteers ) . This lady was using her keyboard - after a short period of time this lady looked up at my wife - then, without saying a word looked back downto her keyboard - my wife thought words to the effect , that was quite bad manners and walked off. She eventually found the correct location , arriving dead on 11.30 .....only to be told that they were running

1 hour 15 minutes behind time ...........! When she finally got to see the Consulant she couldn't speak highly enough of him , he gave her confidence for her forthcoming surgery .

There was another situation with me and my two hearing aids in the audio dept but think I have moaned enough !

We arrived home at 1.15pm .

We accept fully that emergencies do occur in hospitals which cause delays but ......!

I know it's a rant but ,gosh , do I feel better for it - oh! My dental checkup - well they tell me that the first time they can get me in is at the end of February . Not worth complaining to anybody or even filling in a Survey .

    Homeless...

    Biomech
    By Biomech,

Has anyone else notice a lot more homeless people on the streets in the day? I don't mean the alcoholic scroungers shouting at each other about benefits - I mean proper homeless, grubby, curled up in a corner with a piece of cardboard for coins.

I'm sure there are plenty of homeless people, but previously you'd only see maybe 1 in a subway or walking around, but I saw 4 in high town the other day.

    Ewa_CELINSKA_2.jpg

Ewa Celinska, of no fixed abode, has not been seen since the night of Wednesday 2 March. She had been staying at St Peter's night shelter since Christmas, but has now taken her belongings and not returned to the shelter.

Ewa, originally from Poland, left her home country in 2013 and has not been seen by her family since. She has previously gone missing in the West Bromwich area of the West Midlands and is a vulnerable woman who is not fluent in English.

She has medium length, light brown hair and is of a slim build, approximately 5'5" in height. Ewa was last seen wearing a light coloured cream raincoat and trousers. She carries a cream bag and has been seen wearing jeans in the past.

Police are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare and urge anyone who has seen a woman matching her description to call 101.
