  1. Sorry I should have said "one of the big problems" or "one of the benefits of coming to the UK" is the language
  2. The big problem we have here is that we speak English which is a dominant global language. So it's a lot easier and more beneficial for people to come here than it is Belgium, Italy, Portugal etc where they potentially have to learn a third native language
  3. I'm sure you'll agree, there are some ways to go about things that are better than others... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IV10M1RbEA
  4. I've never been a fan of CCTV, a camera doesn't stop a crime, it just means someone gets to watch. Even if it goes to court, the footage is often barely admissible.
  5. You're right, it looked lovely last night. Not sure what I was looking at :P Although I have been known to see the future in the past... ;)
  6. Someone else said they went in there over the weekend, but when I went past on Thursday night the place looked like it had been gutted. I'll have to have another look, make sure I have the right place :P
  7. Bit of a repost, but what happened that all new fancy chicken place on Commerical Road? The one near Yates? I drove past the other night and the place looked abandoned and derelict
  8. I absolutely agree Bill! I'm just saying that there a quite a few drivers around Hereford who, for whatever reason, like to red red likes, cut people up and drive like everyone else should get out of the way. I think it would be worth having a police car sit on there for the first few days just until everyone gets used to it.
  9. Whilst it's a little dated, I thought you might enjoy reading this; http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Hereford
  10. Evidently it missed most of the country. The internet is awash with people mocking the media
  11. Well it's 12.30am and nothing, not even a breeze a little drizzle. All this hyperbole and a complete let down. I imagine out in the sticks a few leaves might get blown off but, as mentioned above, I imagine any problems we'll have will be due to poor drainage not coping with the usual rain.
  12. pppffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt, ppppffffttttt I say! Personally, I'm looking forward to it. Things like this make my job more interesting and exciting :D I remember last year having to take a detour out towards Whitbourne on the A44 at about 3am because the Worcester road was 5ft underwater. There were police rescure vechicles, off road rescue squads, ambulances flooded out - even rescue boats on the roads! There's a river on near the A44. it had burst its banks and, literally, the road became a gushing river about 2-3ft deep. I stopped, with no where to go and got out the van to test the depth. It was hit or miss, I nearly gave up... but then 2 lovely chaps in a car came up behind me and egged me on, "you go first and we'll drive in your wake" they said. These patches of violently, side flowing, road rivers occured about 7-8 times, each time I was heading further into lower ground. With the banks burst, the surrounding fields were under water and I had to navigate the road merely from the position of the hedges. I can't lie, there was one point where it did get a very hairy and the van was nearly swept away; but I soldiered on. It was fun :)
  13. If it doesn't have food on, it goes in the green bin. I rinse jars but that's about it :) Now... how do I get rid of these black bags of grass from the garden that say no garden waste, no refuse, no recycling, no cardboard, no plastic, no metal, no glass? Taking a wild stab in the dark - you want me to buy different colours bags right?
  14. I heard about that, it's silly really they have been around for a long time and - according to a specialist in a TV interview - don't carry enough toxin to be harmful to humans, their bites just "nip". Here the National History Museum talks about how they have been here for over 100 years (article 2007).. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/about-us/news/2007/may/news_11767.html I think 99% of it is just media hyperbole - who'd have guess!
  15. Blanket bans are their get out of jail free cards. You'll notice that they do it with most things. Most recently the deaths in lakes. For what it's worth, there's a kebab van on one of the Worcester->M5 roundabouts that stays open until the early hours. A bit of a trek mind!
  16. Or, as a couple with similar interests, they are going to discuss on who they would like to collectively vote for?
  17. Political correctness is out of control. Furthermore, I do not believe in "offensive". If "The Wife" is no unacceptable, then I think I'll take offence to white people being called white while black people must be called "coloured".
  18. Ah Mr Chappell you did not disappoint. I, for one, will not be supporting this cause for the same reasons that I don't support "Race for Life". I have a story too, if I may share.... Walking around the corner of Franklin house one Saturday night after dinner with friends, we saw a man punching a women in the face and knocking her to the ground. We didn't interfere, we didn't need to, there were 2 police cars and a riot van outside Subway watching.... and watching......... and watching. So one of my larger friends stepped in between them to stop the violence. Cue 8+ police officers rushing across the road. We were then "detained" and threatened with arrest for drunk and disorderly, despite most of us not even having had a drink.
  19. You'll notice that they all have public toilets already, pubs, resturants etc. I very much doubt that you will find shops opening up their toilets as most shops don't have insurance to cover non-staff in staff only areas.
  20. People misread others pointing out failure as complaining. My glass is always both half full and half empty - it's balanced. So when I "complain", it's actually because whatever I'm "complaining" about is failing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it......... like wise, if it is broke, fix it. :)
  21. Maybe someone should print one off and put it up for them, you know, in support of community spirit and the "big society".
  22. lol I saw this on a panel show earlier - I can never tell if what I see on those is current as they are repeated so often. The one guy said, and I agree, if share prices rocketed, then it's valuable and worth something, if it's valuable and worth something - why are selling it?
  23. Does anyone else think it's an utter joke that they call each other "honourable"?
  24. Yeah, but it says there's £3m of outstaning work and that Amey bailed out the council to the tune of £2m... then it says the council are expecting just over £1m back from Amey...... so, the way I read it, Amey are paying back the council for work that they didn't do, minus the bailout cost at the start (2006?)
  25. With reference to this article that I know a number of you have read. "MORE than £3m of disputed items remain to be resolved over Herefordshire Councils service provision contract with Amey which ended last month." http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/local/10711892.More_than___3m_of____disputed_items____remain_unresolved_over_council___s_contract_with_Amey/ Am I to understand that Amey owes "us" £3million.... however..... they bailed the council out at a cost of 2 million previously so they will be paying back around £1million to the council? £885k + £166k ("The council currently expects some £885k of income from Amey - for which provision has been made in the previous years outturns - and additional expectation of £166k for the five months to August 31").
