  1. It could have been protected by a steel plate sitting over the top, no lights needed. It also begs the question - why have they dug up brand new tarmac? It's just plain bonkers!
  2. Yes, ridiculous is the word for the City's traffic - just this afternoon I've driven 200 miles back from a break up north, in Friday afternoon motorway traffic, yet the only delay was on Aylestone Hill, where nothing was moving at all!! To add insult to injury, they've squeezed in a 'cycle path' as well by slapping on some white lines whilst I've been away! Of course this just stops as it arrives at the roundabout - I do wish this council would stop wasting our money so they can tick a box and say another mile of cycle path formed.
  3. The council claim some of the work has been delayed until this week - half term - to minimise inconvenience ... Of course, by doing so, they are acknowledging Hereford's traffic issues are dramatically increased by the school runs during term times, something that a by-pass will have no effect on at all.
  4. Fantastic news - can't wait to see how Leader Johnson spins this ... The planning application is still showing as current on the Council's website. Hopefully a withdrawn notice will be added shortly. Question is - what will they do with it now?
  5. Certainly the planning process yes. If its for the same scheme then the drawings can be used again, saving that cost, assuming the architect agrees.
  6. As I read the article, they did not take repossession or take control of the grounds.
  7. The planning permission expired almost exactly a year ago.
  8. Hear, hear! Cllrs Kenyon and Lloyd-Hayes are probably best placed to comment on this.
  9. The welcome pack with the new black bin contains a self adhesive sticker, onto which you are supposed to write your house name/number, and stick it to the bin. I note with some amusement that these do not appear to be waterproof - walking through town today pretty much each one I saw was already peeling off.
  10. I believe under direct labour it passed as job creation/job security - keep doing the same job badly. In the privatised world it passes for charge and charge again - keep doing the same job badly.
  11. Which list is the good Mrs bobby47 on??
  12. Well, well, I cycled past these benches today - oh, dear lord, they've been repaired! About a year of chasing by Cllr Vaughan has finally got them back to usable. What a sorry state of affairs - the amount of effort required to get the simplest of things done is just absurd. We've lost all sight of common sense - it should be so simple - man walks/cycles all public spaces on regular basis, notes things that need attention, gets them done. That’s how it used to work with direct labour. Now, it's entirely reactive - unless the public report it, it doesn't get done, and even when they do, it still doesn't get done. Witness the ongoing saga reported here about the Great Western Way redundant posts and fly tipping.
  13. The petition, as of a few minutes ago, has 349 signatures, which is fantastic. At some point, I would suggest, it needs to be submitted in paper form to the planning office, possibly with a HT photographer present. It's important that it forms part of the lodged objections. Is there a way to do this by those that started the petition? I see that on the petition page it says 'How it will be delivered - Press conference in person if the opportunity arises'. I think the moment to make the opportunity is nigh.
  14. Yep, it’s a futile and rubbish little bit of tarmac from someone in Balfour Beatty who has obviously never ridden a bike - spits you out right on a junction making turning right difficult/dangerous/impossible without getting off your bike. When will these people learn that cyclists don't do 90 degree turns? Even the Greenway is cursed with them. Having said that, JB has overlooked the flight of steps up through Venns Arch - cyclists don't do those either!
  15. Yet another takeaway in what must be the City's grubbiest and greasiest street.
  16. On the rare occasions I slob out in front of the tv, the second someone starts blubbing like a baby, and it usually doesn't take long, they're gone - I've channel surfed to dryer land. That’s the trouble with the country nowadays - no backbone - sort that out and all will be well. Possibly.
  17. Wot, no one from the council popping up to say 'this is good value'??!!
  18. I understand that, for the first time, the tories were defeated over the proposal to fund a feasibility study into this proposal. So, I imagine our leader had a face like he was chewing a turd whilst chairing the meeting ...
  19. I was horrified to hear on Newsnight last night, the minister/MP in charge of managing Ebola in the UK confirm that we had all of 26 beds ready … and she was confident that would be adequate (for now). In fact she was only expecting 3 cases in the next 3 months. And how many more will arrive through 'unofficial' channels?
  20. I wonder where the ward councillor - Cllr Hubbard - sits with this application - as he is also on the planning committee.
  21. The new traffic lights along Newmarket St seem to be particularly dumb - showing green to the filter out from Maylords for instance when there are no vehicles waiting. I vaguely recall something about smart lights as part of the new installation, or perhaps that was just wishful thinking on my part. I also note that traffic counters have been laid across all the main distributor roads in the city.
  22. Full hi-viz AND a hard hat to empty bins - the madness of it all ...
