Hereford City Link Road Opens Monday 11th December

The City Link Road will open to the public on Monday 11 December 2017.
The road opens in time for the busiest Christmas Shopping period
“I am delighted to announce that the road is opening on time and within budget and I would like to thank Alun Griffiths for the professional delivery of the road. More importantly, I would like to thank residents near to the road and the travelling public for their patience during the works. The road marks another milestone in Hereford’s regeneration and we now look forward to making further improvements to High Town next year and Commercial and Blueschool Streets in the near future. The new road unlocks previously unseen and under-utilised inner city land for development and plans can now be taken forward for the site to build new homes, a transport hub at the Hereford Railway Station, new public services buildings and university accommodation.â€

Hereford Medieval City Walls Left To Ruin

Why are our beautiful Medieval City Walls being left to ruin?
I have mentioned this in the recent topic about a number of increased weeds in our city but I do think this justifies a unique topic.
Just look at the weeds growing from the top of this section along Gunners Lane.
Hereford Voice is highlighting just how bad this has become in an attempt to provoke some action and possible restoration from the Council. Hopefully, we can encourage them to put a maintenance plan in place going forward. The Herefordshire County Council need to look at having the weeds removed and also look at cleaning and repairing any unstable sections of the City Walls.
The survival of our Medieval City Walls is very important, this is our heritage and therefore should be protected for future generations to come, after all this site is a scheduled monument protected by law.
There was a study of Hereford's City Walls back in September 2011 details here and details about the Area of Archaeological Importance (AAI) can be found here
A map of Hereford Area of Archaeological Importance, Hereford city wall conservation management plan documents and archaeology supplementary planning guidance can be found here and here
Clearing The Newton Brook

Some good work being carried out all this week along the Newton Brook in Belmont. The brook has not really been cleaned out in years so it was good to see a JCB making light work of it.
This work was paid for by Herefordshire Council and there is now a program for maintenance along this stretch.
This work was undertaken following constant pressure to do something from Cllr Tracy Bowes who has been chasing them for months as this is a flood risk. They tried to clear some of the brook near Jubilee field on the last community action day but the silt was above their wellies.
They are monitoring the other parts of the brook and this has been included in the tender for work for next year.
December, January and February have been highlighted as good times for tree and shrub maintenance and coppicing but there is a plan now which should see additional work carried out throughout the year.

Illegal Tobacco Seized During Multi Agency Task Force

Illegal Tobacco Seized During On 17th January 2018, a Multi Agency Task Force carried out search warrants on premises operating as 'mini markets' in Eign Gate Hereford and Drapers Lane, Leominster.
QuoteThese expensive pieces of criminal ingenuity were quickly deconstructed by members of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service with state of the art cutting equipment.
QuotePeople who purchase tobacco from such premises are putting their health at an additionally high risk, as many other waste products are mixed with the tobacco prior to packaging it, in order to maximise profit,
Where to go, what to do...

Hello, my partner and I are completely new to Hereford - we moved up from Cornwall a few days ago, leaving virtually everyone we know behind. We aren’t the most social of creatures, and we don’t go out a great deal, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like spending time with good people and listening to good music. I’d love it if the members here could advise and recommend? Especially places that don’t cost an arm and a leg - moving has pretty much cleared out our wallets!
Hereford City Parking - Meeting

On Monday 29th January, 5.30 - 7pm
The Send Climbing Centre - Rotherwas SET TO REOPEN

After less than a year, the doors have closed - due to unforeseen circumstances.......
A big blow for the staff and in general for the city of Hereford. This was much needed and well used by folk far and wide
It appears they closed unexpectedly and didn’t pay staff, return any outstanding membership fees and Christmas vouchers. No contact has be made with either NICK HAMES or his missus - both co-owners.
No further information.
Hillside Rehabilitation Centre to Close

We have learned today that the Hillside Rehabilitation Centre in Redhill, Hereford is likely to close next month.
Hereford live concert

All I can say is that I’m shocked! Big expectations but No thought has gone into this whatsoever. To me all day means at least 8am to 6pm,10hrs! 7 acts and I can’t see them doing more than an hour each! Cheeky girls 15min max - 2 “songs†that leaves 3+ hrs to fill. But they’re not going to start at 8 more like noon or 2pm, so not really all day.
So much local talent and some great international talent that has come from the Shire, not one listed, I doubt even contacted. Dried up has beens who probably contacted them. I’d rather spend my £35 at a festival for 3 days seeing real talent, (midge excluded)! And I have.
Disappointed to say the least. Someone please can we have a proper festival/party in the park type event like other towns and cities annually do.
Or are we all too scared because of the Cider & Sausage fiasco a few years ago. So much local talent going for us.
