  1. To address some of the 'points' raised in some comments above : * There were roadworks on the motorway between Sheffield and Liverpool. Liverpool fans arriving late should have been predicted, and allowed for. K.O could and should have been delayed. It wasn't. * The pens were a death trap. If too many were allowed in from the back, there was no escape at the front. The consequences were then inevitable. * What were the police doing to marshal the supporters? The area outside the perimeter to The Lepping Lane is very narrow, and adjacent to the River Don. The crowd needed to be managed on approach, not once they got there, to avoid crushing. This was not done by the police. * Liverpool fans got the smaller areas of the ground, despite having - as everyone knew - the bigger support. Changes had been made to these arrangements in previous semi finals, but not this time. Why not? * The two middle sections can be shown in film footage to be overly full, even before the order to open the perimeter gate was given. Had the central tunnel under the stand - which led directly to the middle pens - been closed off, this would have diverted late comers to the pens either side. Another failure. * The FA had selected to host a cup semi final, in a death trap. There was no safety certificate. They could have opted for Villa Park, in Birmingham. Legislation certainly did not prevent this. * The police failed to manage. Sheffield Wednesday failed to ensure fan safety. The FA failed to use a ground that had a valid safety certificate. The author of the above points - Alisdair Galloway - adds 'Your source should be ashamed of ever writing that, as should you be for repeating it.' Shameful. I agree.
  2. Just announced.... South Yorkshire chief constable - David Crompton - suspended, with immediate effect, over handling of the Hillsborough Inquest. Kelvin McKenzie - editor of The Sun at the time, says he was caught up in 'the smear' tactics, and has apologised. He has cited sources for his coverage of events as 'a senior police officer and a conservative MP'. People lied. They deceived. They covered their own backs. This continued for twenty seven years. The truth is finally out. We'll no doubt hear an awful lot of apologies over the coming weeks. One group who definitely do NOT need to apologise, are the supporters. I find it incredible that there are folks who still believe they would need to. They were NOT to blame.
  3. Bravo, Bobby. An incredible post.
  4. Let's hope the proposed design is an improvement on the last one....
  5. Planning permission granted for 69 homes on this site, with the firm Redrow. This must be, what, the fourth developer? I'm sure Persimmon purchased the land first, then sold it on... then Miller Homes and now Redrow Access will be via Baggallay Street...... Mutterings about the playing field being developed, according to the HT report. I'm sure there is a public right of way across here?? (Although I appreciate that this doesn't prevent building.... and we do very much need homes!) I just want to make sure there is still access...!
  6. I completely agree, Bobby. This completely validates what the families have been saying for years, and vindicates those poor souls who so tragically lost their lives that day.
  7. It seems ridiculous to me, that Liz Harvey comment has been misquoted, indeed even manipulated, to put her in a bad light. This is a woman who works extremely hard for the folks she represents. She appears to have a genuine concern about just how long the bunting will be up for. I quite agree. Use the red, white and blue for a specific occasion....I have no problem there( and neither does Liz). But if it's going to be draped around the town indefinitely, then perhaps something a little more considered would be advised. I'm no royalist. But I'm more than happy to see union flag bunting up whenever the occasion arises. I'm not convinced that the whole of Ledbury needs to be covered in it for the whole tourist season. When I think about the amount of good this councillor does, it seems to me grossly unfair that perhaps an off the cuff remark has caused such a furore. Surely there are more pressing issues that need to be discussed? Just my opinion.
  8. I'm truly sorry that you feel you can't find a way forward to try to resolve this issue, my friend. Honestly.... eighteen years..... throw everything you have at it, before you walk away. As long as you can find the words to keep communicating, there surely must be hope that your relationship can be salvaged? Trust is huge..... of course it is. But please don't allow yourself to be so focussed on one point, that you are blinded to other paths forward. Don't look back on this, and have so many regrets that you didn't explore all options. As I said previously, it takes both of you to find any workable solution. Only you and Mrs GK know the answers to these questions. Sending a hug, and a hope that you can find some common ground to build on.
  9. Oh, Green Knight. What a predicament. No easy solutions to this one.... there never are when matters of the heart are concerned. Eighteen years is a long time. Too long to not try your hardest to get beyond this. No relationship is easy, as I'm sure you appreciate, and nobody can ever really know exactly what goes on behind closed doors. Ask yourself this, can you live with this situation - knowing it's not a 'physical affair'?? Is it a compromise you could live with? For what it's worth, my own relationship is not what most folks would consider conventional - but we have accepted flaws/differences in each other, and to the world and his brother.... we appear like any other couple. If your wife is now being entirely truthful, and you are fully aware of this friendship, is this a situation you can tolerate? Could you live with the consequences of forcing an ultimatum... and not getting the response you need? It's quite remarkable just how many compromises can be struck between two people who love each other to bits..... I get the sense that you both want to work this out. The hardest bit is setting the boundaries, and rebuilding the trust. If you both want this to work - it will. But it will take both of you. Sending a hug.
  10. Well considering the rather pathetic amount of grass myself and my neighbours have to cut in our street, I'm still for pushing ahead with "The Community Goat Scheme!" Any chance of getting a discount on an MOT for one of those......??!! Seriously though, good luck to the business. I hope you have a great years trading.
  11. Hello Bethlouise! How refreshing to read a post from someone who so loves their job! I'm sure everybody who contributed to this thread now fully understands the issues you had last year.... and will return! Take care!
  12. Ahhhh! The Commercial! A few of us have happy memories of merry afternoons spent listening to Our Bobby's wise words ....! Hand rolled smokes, a glass or three of red, and some great company....! Thanks for posting this one, Colin.
  13. Good Grief, Bobby! Stop worrying about your waist measurement! There are a fair few of us who like you just the way you are, and I'm sure Mrs 47 is top of that list!
  14. Weird. I'm officially persona non grata, it would seem! Is it just me, or has my profile "pic" disappeared??? Help me! I'm shriiiiiinking! Phew! Back in the room! Thank the Lord for the edit facility! Folks will think I've lost my marbles!
  15. Well for once, Roger, I find myself in complete agreement with you. (I know, I know... I'm finding this a little strange too....!) Jeremy should have seized this opportunity... and he didn't. The whole country is talking about the why's and wherefores of the IDS resignation.... it was there for the taking. I can't understand why he didn't grasp this with both hands, and slap Dave around the chops with it. (Metaphorically speaking of course..... although they would definitely be pork chops!)
  16. Oh, Good grief. That's absolutely appalling. There surely can be no excuse for this. Thank goodness the delivery driver and neighbours had the good sense - and conscience - to follow this up. Many folks would have ignored what was under their nose. I hope the little one is OK.
  17. Bill Norman, was the monitoring officer for Herefordshire.... up until he offered to take redundancy. The council had temporarily made the role come under the jurisdiction of the deputy solicitor. This was an interim arrangement, for nine months. That was six months ago....so I'm guessing it will be filled on a more permanent basis shortly, if it hasn't been already. I must say, unless I've missed it, I've heard nothing about Bill's replacement.....
  18. Hmmm! The Mysterious Case of the Vanishing Councillor may not be solved...! Apologies, Diligaf, this may have been a false alarm! # Find Phil continues...... Keep 'em peeled folks, and remember - be careful out there!
  19. Well....HT name check him in the photo....! However, I'm not convinced, until a poster can verify that it is actually him!
  20. According to "Acronym Finder" it stands for Celebrity Poker Showdown..... Could explain why he's always 'busy'......! But they also offer the following alternatives... Centre for Policy Study. Creative Problem Solving. And my particular favourite... Clay Pigeon Shooters!
  21. Speaking for myself, I'd be quite happy with that offering, H! I think it could jazz up The Lines no end!
  22. Hats off though, to young volunteer Dillon. It really is great to see some community spirit in youngsters! A big 'Well Done' to that young man!
  23. You most definitely ARE talking sense Diligaf! Just like most of the contributors to this lengthy thread.....! All we need to do now is..... convince a few others! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy ......not!
  24. But do we have a positive sighting, Roger??? (And thanks for providing 'The Evidence' ) Can anyone confirm that this actually IS the most elusive of Cllr's? I'm on tenterhooks here....! Ooooh! The Drama!!
  25. Granted.... it's not the best view - and apologies for not being able to provide a handy link - but unless I'm very much mistaken, HT have photographic evidence that Cllr Edwards is still on his patch! # Find Phil.... the Hereford equivalent to Where's Wally? I think this could catch on!
