  1. Yes it's great news isn't it Roger, at last we should see some movement on the appalling and shameful situation in Calais. Not for the first time the home office is using bureaucracy to flout the law. Regarding the numbers, even if everybody at the Calais camp were to come to the uk, we could easily accommodate those numbers. We are a wealthy country.

I agree with the PM that we should ONLY take genuine refugees from legitimate camps. Taking migrants from Calais will only encourage more trafficking and send out the wrong signal.

  2. I am shocked at this comment after what happened in Germany and Sweden. They should allow woman children and the elderly into the EU and give the single (frustrated) adult men a gun each and they should fight for their country like our grandparents did in the 1st and 2nd world war.

    Yes - 100%

  3. OK, I'll try to take your queries one at a time.

How will they live in the UK? that's a good question. They are housed if they have nowhere to live, usually in a hostel. Like I said, about £5 a day, and I believe they can look for work if their claim for asylum has not been processed after about a year, but only in areas where there is a shortage of personnel, e.g. nursing.

To be clear, there are unaccompanied children who have reached Europe, and we are recommended to take 3000 of them. They are not massed at Calais, where there are about 7000 people IN TOTAL.

Regarding why they come to Europe rather than going to Saudi etc, if you look at a map you will see that Turkey is the easiest place to seek refuge, and that's where most Syrians are, plus also in Jordan and Lebanon, which has a huge proportion. They're obviously no safer in Iraq, so they're not going there. Europe is next, after Turkey, geographically. Saudi is a long, long way away, Qatar, Bahrain, further. But yes, you could reasonably argue that those countries could do more. That doesn't mean we should do less.

Housed, we have no housing! We have homeless people now and lots of them, so I fail to see how we can house more people if we cannot house our own? It all sounds great but it is not realistic.

I also agree that these other muslim countries COULD do more.

  4. Hi Bill, in answer to your question about helping those in poverty here... to me the solution is that we don't help either/or, we help both. We can't solve the worlds problems, but I certainly feel that we can do more to help.

Again, I'd like to reiterate that I have no intention of repeating past arguments! I have my principles... and I'm sticking with them!

Hi dippy, what more can we do and is there going to be a limit to what we can do? I say this because this flow of migrants is not slowing down, (special thanks to Angela Merkel) and it only going to gain momentum in my view.

  5. I believe 21 people have been charged in Cologne with various crimes, not sure of the numbers of those who are identified as asylum seekers, as opposed to just "North African". But given that they aren't allowed to earn any money, it's perhaps not surprising that some asylum seekers turn to theft? I just don't believe that narrative that they are all perverts and rapists. You sound like Donald Trump!

Your numbers from a reliable source or one of these dodgy ones? lol

We have millions of unemployed people of our own, we also have hundreds of homeless and people living in poverty. There are no jobs, certainly not enough for our own. So again, how will thousands be able to live in the UK?

  6. Well you can look it up for yourself (Bill Thomas) by all means. Life isn't easy for these people, and the UK certainly doesn't make it easier. The allowance for an adult in France is around £8, but they make no allowances for children, which is why families may be better off in the UK. I don't know where you read about refugees refusing to be treated by female medics - was it a reliable source? I'm always sceptical. There's a corporate media narrative that portrays refugees and asylum seekers as uncivilised, barbaric, ignorant of the west etc etc but I don't buy into it myself.

You still never answered my question, how will they live in the UK?

No, they've reached the EU, now the International Development committee is recommending that we take 3000. Many of them will have been orphaned en route.

You're wrong. There are about 7000 people at the Jungle camp in Calais. A further 2500 or so are at Dunkirk. Do you really think 3000 of them are children? Why do you think they all want to get to the UK?

Yes, you definitely said 3000 unaccompanied children

Well, as i said earlier, 86% are hosted by developing countries. Turkey has most of the Syrians.

Again, can you answer Paul's, question. Why are these refugees not going to other Muslim countries? Qatar, Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia etc..

  7. Yup, no woman has ever been groped and abused by a white British man on new year's eve.

Well if this is your best answer, I have no more words...

Not on this scale! Can you not see the difference on this night in Germany and Sweden there were hundreds of these perverts HUNDREDS! And these are the people that Germany offered a welcoming hand.

  8. Well, 86% of the world's refugees are hosted by developing countries, not the UK, or even the EU. Within the EU, most would prefer to go to Germany, Sweden, and Italy, and indeed those countries take many thousands more than we do in the UK. Asylum seekers are not allowed to claim benefits or work in the UK.  If they are destitute and have no other means of supporting themselves, they can apply to receive asylum support. This is set at around £5.28 per day - it is more than that in France. So what makes you say that the UK is too soft?

I do not believe this for one second! How are they going to live in the UK with no money or work? I also see that Germany has many problems now, even their own people are complaining. People do not feel safe, particularly woman. A lot of the refugee's are now refusing to be treated in hospitals by woman and are insisting on being treated by men.

  9. One reason people don't want to seek asylum in France, is the difficulty in applying. One  French rule, for example, requires refugees to have an address to start the asylum process, but you cannot get an address until you are in the system. Many of the people at Calais don't speak French, but they do speak English, or they have family already resident here who they hope to join. Unemployment is also high in France, and it has an unwelcoming reputation as far as refugees are concerned. Hard to believe, but France is actually more racist than the UK.

    Welcome to the forum Osmosis.

Again, these refugees want to pick and choose, is France not part of the EU like the UK? Personally, the UK is too soft imo.

  10. I am surprised that you still live in Hereford because all you do is moan!

You was against the lying and taking the shops from the old city centre which we were told would not happen?

You talk like you are blaming the council? This is a private venture and the stores can choose to go where the prefer? I do not recall being told lies? If I was a store owner, I know I would prefer a new building in a prime location with 12 months free rent over an old listed building with huge annual maintenance costs in some cases.

Adrian Pitt, you beat me to it. Mr Symonds will be the first to moan if it all ends up closed too. No pleasing some people. It is all about supply and demand and from my experience over the past year, the vast majority of these new restaurants are really busy especially at night. The coffee shops are always busy, we were only in Costa (high town) yesterday and the queue was almost to the door and this was only mid morning. Good luck to them all I say and it is finally nice to have some choice.

  11. I am with Paul Jones, I am not in favour in changing our city centre into a residential area. These shops/units need updating and made to look more attractive to potential businesses.

As soon as more residents move into the city centre the more objections pubs/restaurants and clubs face.

Completely agree with you both. The council and shop owners should do more to make their premises more attractive. I do not agree that changing the use into residential is the answer in my opinion. There are lots of empty homes around the county that have been previously discussed. Keep the city centre as the city centre.

  12. This is becoming an even bigger joke, are they taking the micky or what?

Pool Ban For Migrants After Women Harassed

Officials in Bornheim say women have filed complaints "over the sexually offensive behaviour of some migrant men at the pool".

A German town has banned male asylum seekers from a public swimming pool after women complained they were being sexually harassed.

Officials in Bornheim, 20 miles south of Cologne, said men at three nearby migrant centres would be barred until they got the message "the right of women in Germany is inviolable".

They said six people had filed complaints "over the sexually offensive behaviour of some migrant men at the pool".

Public distrust of asylum seekers has grown in the country after hundreds of women told police they were groped and robbed by mostly Arab and North African men during New Year's festivities in Cologne.

Markus Schnapka, deputy mayor of Bornheim, said officials have launched a campaign to teach migrants about gender equality and respect for women.

He said male asylum seekers would be banned from the town's pool until they "got the message".

"There have been complaints of sexual harassment and chatting-up going on in this swimming pool ... by groups of young men, and this has prompted some women to leave," he added.

"This led to my decision that adult males from our asylum shelters may not enter the swimming pool until further notice."

Elsewhere, a carnival parade in Rheinberg, a town north of Cologne, has been cancelled after organisers said they would not be able to provide suitable security arrangements.

The event on 8 February was axed because the parade route would have passed an asylum shelter housing 500 residents, according to German media.

The gang attacks outside Cologne's cathedral have deepened public doubts about Chancellor Angela Merkel's open-door policy towards refugees fleeing conflicts in the Middle East.

Ms Merkel is under pressure to stem the flow of migrants, with several thousand entering Germany every day, sparking a backlash from right-wing nationalist groups.

Germany took in 1.1 million asylum seekers last year, mostly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.

  13. It's an infringement of intellectual property rights

The logo suggests that there is a connection with Tesco when there is not.

Correct ragwert that is exactly what it is. They do not have to use a company name at all, merely using symbols and colours to appear the same (like in this case) is an infringement of intellectual property rights

  14. I am not being defeatest, before anyone on here says I am, but with respect Bill you do not know Cllr Price its his decision as cabinet member and unless it concerns him personally, or its in his own ward,or he's in favour of it (which he isn't) he won't do anything. I worked along side of him for 6 years and I know what he's like..

He may not get voted in next time and anything can happen. I know he can be stubborn but he is no fool either so if there is overwhelming support he will have to compromise at some point.

  15. Colin, where I have always agreed that the lights should be turned off, also speaking in its favour last October at full council meeting Cllr price as you know ignored your first petition and he is not the type of person to change his mind, so I think the new petition will fall on deaf ears, but I hope I am wrong.I HAVE SIGNED THE NEW PETITION!

Where there is a will there can always be a way Glenda  :Happy_32: , I have re-signed too and shared.
