  1. The brown envelope probably wasn't thick enough....
  2. Wait until next week when they start closing Belmont Road from 6pm until 1am. Can't see how the likes of Domino's, McD's, Tesco etc are going to manage, as the majority of their business takes place after that (especially McD's on Belmont Road)
  3. I suppose it depends on how much they can spare for a donation.......
  4. Couple that with the recent announcement of works between the Clehonger turn on the A465 and just past Belmont Tesco (resurfacing works from what I can gather) and we will almost have the perfect storm - roadworks and delays on 2 of the major routes in to the city (3 if you count the water mains works at Three Elms as well). Only need them to decide to dig up the A49 between Redhill and the Callow and may as well stay at home for the next couple of months. On the flip side, at least once they are all complete, there shouldn't be any need to dig them up again for a while.....
  5. @ adamski - maybe we could get Elon Musk to try his new tunnelling system out under Hereford
  6. Very valid points made from all, trouble is EVERY cyclist tends to get tarred with the same brush these days. I do ride occasionally (not much this year due to a 16 mile round trip commute and crappy weather on weekdays) and I will admit to riding on the pavement at times, especially along sections of Holme Lacy Road and occasionally Belmont Road. However, as a motorist as well, I still follow the highway code when it comes to crossings and traffic lights, waiting my turn with the rest of the traffic. I think some form of road safety training should be compulsory in schools (I think some are already) with cycling related stuff from late primary school, and car related in late secondary level, and with the advent of VR software, then it could be reinforced quite well.
  7. They really don't have a clue do they at whichever office they are residing in this year. Why not make a feature of it? Clean it up, run guided walks along it, taking in the cathedral, duck pond, black and white house etc, nice little money earner if they are sensible with the charges, say £5 per head (obviously concessions as well). It really is depressing seeing the city go down hill the way that it is. When are you running for a council position Colin? You care more about the city than any of the over paid bods in Plough Lane
  8. @Colin - very true, very unlikely to receive anything with less than 12 months service. Anyone over that is usually paid at a rate of 1.5 times the weekly wage multiplied by the years of service, so some long term employees may see a reasonable pay out. Unfortunately any pay out will be taken into account when they go to see about any form of benefit help - essentially, they will have to use their redundancy pay to live off until they either find another job, or it runs out. Reading comments on FB this morning, they are closing all 3 sites......
  9. From reading the comments, the one thing that stands out is the "£10 million pound loan secured on assets" - sounds to me like BFS have called in the debt, Gelpack can't repay it, so BFS have started proceedings to recover the money. This BFS lot sound a lot like a dodgy bunch of loan sharks to me.....hopefully the staff will get a redundancy pay out and not be left to struggle.
  10. Really? After all the issues with the development at the Oval, builders not getting paid, low standards of finish etc, they are retaining them? Can't help but worry what these places will be like once the initial house builder guarantee has run out......I certainly wouldn't buy one, too many issues and hidden clauses (plus the recent developments in leasehold properties that have surfaced in the media)
  11. Maybe one of the current affairs programs needs a tip off about this sort of thing, bring it to the attention of the wider public
  12. May be worth checking with the police to see if they were in the area last night using their new toy. If not, then it could be someone prospecting for sheds to break into. A member of the public shouldn't be using a drone in a public area without training and proper clearance (lots of regs regarding use of drones) - think it's a minimum safe distance of 50m from people and property.
  13. The HT "story" paints her as a victim of the system, however, she is partly to blame for her own misfortune having turned down help in both Ross and Hereford. Sheltered accommodation has been offered, meetings with the housing officer have been scheduled, to which she didn't go, and others have also spoken with her and offered help, again she hasn't bothered. She was made homeless initially as she failed to pay her rent, resulting in being evicted via the courts after her landlord started proceedings. Their may be extenuating circumstances to the rent issue (HC cocking up would probably be top of the list), although there may be other issues, such as mental health or alcohol/substance abuse (she has been seen intoxicated around both Hereford and Ross) etc. There is a deeper agenda under this, and it will only be uncovered when those that know her speak up, either way I suspect she will be moved on before long.
  14. It's like reading the future - so much of it sounds just like the plans for Edgar Street. Has anyone looked into who the developers/architects were for this? I can't help but wonder if they are either the same, or a subsidiary or they are using the same text book to plan city redevelopments
  15. No, they can't put a roundabout in, the planners are not allowed sharp objects, and a pair of compasses (?) has a sharp point.
  16. All diesel engine vehicles built to Euro 5 standards have a particulate filter fitted, it's part of the requirements - in fact the bus/lorry manufacturers have had better exhaust treatment technology longer than cars. The black smoke you get from them is usually down to incomplete combustion of the diesel - essentially too much fuel, not enough air. Particulate filters won't stop that, as they are designed to stop the ash that is the by product of combustion, the black smoke won't be stopped by a particulate filter. Jeremy Vine is quite ignorant about most things anyway (in my opinion) and tends to follow the sensationalist Sunday Papers for his research. Better off doing your own research and drawing your own conclusions.
  17. Whilst I agree that diesel does produce a large proportion of particulate matter (which is what the main target is all about) - the media/government appear to forget to mention that there is also a large amount of particulate pollution produced by industry, old oil/gas fired central heating systems, coal fires (still quite a few in use) and of course rubber from the friction generated by tyres on the road surface - this outweighs the amounts generated by exhaust fumes from traffic. Of course you can't penalise industry, home owners etc for these things, so the motorist is the easy target.
  18. A large part of the reasons behind this will be the advent of sites like AO.com where you can get better deals - and possibly the over priced Sony products of course.......
  19. Are they going to do the roundabout as well I wonder? That is in a terrible state
  20. Maybe what they really mean is that there are 80 defence and security staff patrolling the area......There are new units being built opposite the garage, and also some being built out the back of the Tomhead estate as well.
  21. Do they actually read that themselves? There are several routes I regularly travel that are in a shocking state, and have been degrading over the last 18 months, so can't have been inspected. Do they actually have an inspector?
  22. I did see they were digging up the nice new stuff they put in on Holme Lacy road this morning by the co op, looked like they were attacking the curb for some reason. Also a shame they didn't see fit to resurface as far as the traffic lights and the wye inn while they were at it.
  23. One of the clusters has been "filled" on Bowling Green Pitch at Clehonger - I say filled, more like had a shovel or two of loose tarmac chucked in and tamped flat - next bit of heavy rain and it will all be undone again.
  24. I wonder if part of the bid is to use the potholes as miniature gardens and fill them with flowers? Although if you venture far enough into the back lanes, there are quite a few roads with grass and flowers growing along the middle of them.....
  25. I do see that in the latest round of planning applications, there is one for another pedestrian crossing on Edgar Street, this time by Prior Street. That will be the third one on Edgar Street alone.
