  1. The Caribbean, much of South America and Spain all have a countdown - which kinda makes sense! Even third world countries are ahead of us here in the uk
  2. Glenda - I have always had a quiet respect for you in the background of my computer - but please don't have a dig at jim Kenyan - whilst I don't always agree with him - nobody can argue with his passion and hard work for his community - and for that I have the upmost respect!
  3. Bobby - have the commercial served you one too many this afternoon?
  4. Like the odeon / fusion / all you can eat chinese building - I'm under the impression that the uni team is looking at it. This Uni could really do great things for this town. I also understand that the Chadd family do still own that building and there is a little pressure on them to tidy it up. A couple of hundred quid spent could do wonders on tidying up that part of town.
  5. All in previous posts on this thread and to be honest my view is not popular - in short : Once one late night food establishment gets to open later - they all will - including McDonald's The majority of people out late will end up in McDonalds Too few customers for the local establishments to stay open profitably In the end McDonald's will be the only one open late. McDonald's are not local and it takes money out of our lovely town. Not a win for Hereford. Could go on more - but I risk becoming boring on this issue - right now - where we are at food wise is not a bad position with the money staying in the Hereford economy.
  6. Sorry bambi - I don't have that kind of relationship - I've met him a couple of times and thought he was a good guy is all. However I am very impressed with the speed of his response above.
  7. Assuming that Nick Semper doesnt read this, perhaps you should mail him directly Ubique? http://www.westmercia.police.uk/saferneighbourhoods/herefordshire/hereford-city-southside-and-rural herefordsouthside.snt@westmercia.pnn.police.uk - is the group e mail. If you ever have reason to contact the police, which I have a few times, I would assume his e mail is - nick.semper@westmercia.pnn.police.uk I must admit, I have met him a few times, and he certainly is not dull and spouting bolloc$s as mentioned above, in fact - I personally found him to be the most forward thinking copper I have come across in a long time.
  8. I know you all know my position on this - but ill say it again. IF food places get to stay open later - it may be a short term win, but in the long run, at this current time, it will NOT be good for the town, or the independent food operators. My understanding is there are NO new licences, or extensions to current licences and with the amount of people there are going out in Hereford right now, that is a good thing. IF the University comes to town, and we get 5000 new revelers in 5 years time, I would change my position. Be careful what you wish for.
  9. I would think its part of Hereford in Bloom - It looks like more places have taken part this year and I hope old Trevor can keep Hereford in the top ranks of the Towns in Bloom.
  10. What does this mean? Is this to discuss changing the permission of the land for planning reasons? I honestly dont know - just asking?
  11. On a personal note - I realise that above is the calmer and more respectable way to disagree on this msg board.
  12. Bobby - whats the issue here? There are 15 or so "lost souls" who have all sorts of difficulties in their lives who present to us hard working/tax paying/contributing to the town type folks as a load of pi*% heads that sit outside the Baptist Church, Venns grave yard and now St Peters Church. Every now and then - some of them are begging or shouting at one of "us" hard working people and we get upset. They look unsightly and we dont want their way of life, well, I dont anyway. Ive also read that some of them have died this year, through their drink/drug problems. Now we have an "operation stupid name" and - yes, it is a silly name, but I guess the police have to call it something that appears to be tackling the problem with other agencies involved to try and remove the eyesore of these people and get them back on track. Why is this a problem? The police do something and there is complaining, the police dont do anything and, well there is complaining. All I know is - if 5 people have died, it IS time to look at this group of people and get them some assistance. What I do find strange is that "we" like to look down on those less fortunate that ourselves and give em a dig. I just dont get how we in this fine city have got an attitude like that. What on earth would Rev John Venn make of it all?
  13. It seems to me that the police are in a no win situation here, as we all know resources have been cut back but the police role and focus areas constantly increase. In this case - I got it wrong - I thought there were up to 40 of them, it now appears that there are less than 20! With this in mind, and knowing that these people have a multitude of problems, mental, addiction, probably no work, they need a purpose and direction given along side the police enforcement. The police enforcement is now happening and when I was in town around 3pm on Friday I personally didnt see any on my drive past the Baptist Church or by the Venns Arch area, and whilst these problems are not a quick fix, at least with operation Castlemain, its clearly underway. IF these people can get help, perhaps they can become useful member's of society again.
  14. King Bobby - You are right - respect should be shown to a man who gave 30 years of service to the Police, and to be Stupidly Frustrated by the way someone taps, you are correct. Apologies to any offended.
  15. lol Dippy - im really not that exciting, I just kinda know that Hereford is a good place. Anyway - back to the point in Hand. Can this retired copper point to anything, something, perhaps ONE thing that he has created or tried to create that has tried to make Hereford better? Surely - for someone that is SO vocal about all the bad things, they must have tried somewhere to make things better. Even if it didnt pan out - but at least tried? Ill take one example right now.
  16. Hi Aylestone Voice, My frustration with Roger is that - he is ALWAYS negative - ALWAYS - please, someone find something somewhere where this man has been positive about this great city that we live in. It FRUSTRATES me - in fact - he is one of my reasons for joining this site. To give the guy his fair dues, he does show who he is, that is not a pleasure I can have on this site due to my current role and information that I know and may speak on which could jeopardise my position, and to be honest, some of the information that I know - perhaps I should not know. To sum up, I can only promise you that in my role I do conduct "extra curricular" activities for what I hope creates a better Hereford!
  17. Roger - in your career as a police officer - or as a retired Hereford citizen, what have you done to IMPROVE Hereford, in any way? Just 2 examples please? We know you can point out the bad - oh how we know that - but what have you done or even tried to do to make things better? BIG respect to you Dipplyhippy! If this town had just a few more people like you - what a great place we would live in! If I ever manage to find out who you are - I would be happy to buy you a drink and repay that bus fair myself!
  18. Because roger - you are just negative all the time. Like this for example - how many street drinkers are we talking about? 25-40 - the problem is not huge. I'm not trotting out the party line - I am in private business and work hard for my money - and yes there are difficulties in my industry in this town, BUT there are many many worse places than Hereford. so MR negative - what positive things have you ever done, or tried to do for Hereford? I would be happy to take just 2 things in your career as a police officer or anything from retirement where you have at least tried to help the community? Please help me change my view of you.
  19. Roger - Once again, having been in many towns and cities around this great land, I can tell you HEREFORD IS SAFE and a GREAT PLACE to LIVE and WORK! There is some degree of Crime everywhere - HEREFORD is safe, its pleasant, you are safe to walk around town day and night and YOU seem to have an axe to grind. You really are a strange little man. Ive found out a bit about you Roger and from what Ive heard, you have always been a strange guy. Hereford has its problems, but its a lot better than many places. Lets find GOOD things to talk about! What have you EVER done thats been good for Hereford? Even if it didnt work, what have you TRIED to do thats good for Hereford? Its easy to sit on the sidelines and throw stones, anyone can do that!
  20. I went past the church today around midday - all clear - maybe the police have got on top of this.
  21. And this is a good thing - it means the cops can deal with serious stuff and not people stealing the saffron from sainsburys !
  22. So I saw "our chief exec" in asdas - he doesn't know me but I know him. I smiled to say hello - however he turned his head and went about his business. I'm told by those he works with - he's not so bad!
  23. Mr Mole - once again, you talk a lot of sense! If only you were in a position to make that suggestion and if you were for people to listen!
  24. So - what are the options : Police resources are more stretched than ever before and we are suggesting "locking them up"? We lock them up, put them in the cell, release them, and................................repeat 24 hours later? Or - give them an area where its "allowed" - but not only that - put trained people in to "work" with them every day to help coerce them onto a more productive life path?
