  1. I agree with megilleland about Blackfriars street, I'm always peeing off drivers whilst cycling asking there. You literally have to be in the middle of the road!!! The leaves on GWW are at their worst on the access ramp down from Barton Road to the main section under the bridge. You can slide along as if you are a school kid in an icy playground. Great if you have bendy kids bones when you inevitably fall over, not so great for folks like me. My eagerly pulling puppy cannot be stopped going down here, I can often be seen slip sliding away!!!
  2. Blimey! Makes you think. I always feel a bit awkward dodging the chuggers, but this just goes to show, you really can never tell who you can trust.
  3. Nationally, this has to be a good strategic move by Sainsbury's, and if anything can keep Argos alive it must be something like this. From Hereford's point of view though, it's a shame to have another main name disappear from our high street. I think that Maylord Orchard will look even more desperate then!
  4. Interesting article on BBC news website today. Similar situation. I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it: Academy funding must be transparent, says MP - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-37761517
  5. Brilliant pics, thanks. More soon I hope??
  6. Good for you, I would have done it if you didn't. I'm fairly sure that I'd read that the Head had previously left a position in a similar fashion?
  7. Wow, shots fired! Thanks for that sullyswife, looks quite formal, and fairly serious I'm guessing. Surely this should be publicised? Story there for the Hereford Times? It will be interesting to follow the developments, and to see if they are able to comply with the fairly robust requirements of the notice.
  8. There are EV charging points in the Old Market though!
  9. Interestingly enough, not too bad so far. Let's wait for a wet Friday afternoon though! Also, I literally just saw two people ignore the No Entry signs by Conningsby Street and carry on regardless towards Wickes on the wrong side of the cones!!
  10. Ooh, bring out the pedants! English spelling is of course "centre" unless you're talking about"Plumbcenter" etc.!!!
  11. Thanks to Mr Whitehead and twg for that information. It really is (or was) a lovely building for one that is tucked away in a corner and yet very close to the city centre. Anyone within striking distance should wander in and have a look before it's possibly lost forever.
  12. Wow, thanks megilleland, that is a brilliant resource! I went poking around at Moor house one Sunday afternoon a few months ago. One, or more, of those glass houses are(were) still standing (just). It's an interesting point made by twowheelsgood about how the council came by this asset.
  13. Hi Denise. I can't get the link to work? Is this the lovely building off Widemarsh common that originally belonged to the Chave family? I always thought this would make an amazing private city residence for someone, although it is a little too close to Sun Valley, obviously! I guess it'll be turned into apartments, a la the Victoria eye hospital, combined with extra accommodation in the extensive grounds.
  14. Today, apparently, there were four very expensive microphones stationed around the city. They were in place to record ambient traffic noise levels at strategic points in relation to the developments taking place around the new access road and Merton Meadow car park. They were positioned at 5.00 a.m. and are in place until midnight tonight. The value is high enough to warrant a minder in a parked car in a hi-vis jacket with security emblazoned upon it sat watching each one permanently. The security firm was sub contracted to Balfour Beatty. I do not know how much four security guards cost for nineteen hours, but I do know that the one "on duty" outside my workplace this afternoon was asleep for quite a while!!!! Excellent value for money for us council tax payers!!!
  15. If you look at the rate at which these items creep into being on sale earlier and earlier each year, I calculate that by 2025 they will be on sale all year round!!!!
  16. Apologies for coming back before anyone has had chance to reply to my last post. I did say that my silence would be short lived! Devil and idle hands etc today... Results of my initial online investigations: Latest (only) Ofsted inspection rated the school as inadequate (the lowest rating) with shocking statistics on results and attendance levels. Inspection May 2015. http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/139895 Number of pupils (Jan 2016 dept for education website census) : 54 out of a capacity of 500! Read this for interesting stats and further info : https://www.schoolguide.co.uk/schools/robert-owen-academy-hereford In the impact assessment that was submitted by the school, presumably as part of their application process, they list the other schools in the area. When referring to The Hereford Academy that has an Ofsted rating of Good (i.e. one step down from the highest grading), they say that it has "relatively poor attainment"! How would they result themselves then on that scale I wonder??! https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/309372/Robert_Owen_Vocational_School_Impact_Assessment.pdf This all takes some believing. I'm going quiet again now while I have a cup of tea!
  17. The implication of the handwritten note is that it will just be opening as a pub, or at least, there's nothing to suggest otherwise! As for the same owners, I doubt that, this is a "PubCo" type lease premises. This often attracts new operators on a short term lease - sort of "suck it and see" approach to opening a pub. Time will tell.......
  18. Notice on pub window, opening at 7pm Friday 2nd September!!
  19. Hello everyone. I might need help here, as I am at severe risk of developing a bee in my bonnet over this whole issue. I've just re-read this entire thread and I'm slowly becoming incensed. I need more information and plan to do some research to prevent my obsession spiralling out of control. Let me explain. I walk along Blackfriars and Widemarsh Street regularly. I've become increasingly annoyed at the apparent level of expenditure on this facility when you take into account the number of pupils and also the results achieved. Row upon row of empty bike stands hint at the lack of numbers here. How can any of this be justifiable. I'm guessing that the fact that budgets are administered nationally, and not on a local or regional basis, means that relatively small amounts (most be several hundred thousand per year!) get lost between the cracks. As we embark upon a new academic year I think it is a good time to re-examine (no pun intended) this facility. I welcome any comments, good or bad, supportive or not, pupils, parents or staff..... I just want to know what it's all about, what goes on there, who pays for it, what results they achieve, how many pupils attend etc.... Rant over (for now, at least!)
  20. I saw electrical contractors entering the library yesterday. Not working but preparing plans or quotes at least.
  21. Yeah. Thought they might be camping at the rowing club, but called there and left my number.
  22. Long Shot! We found a dog today on Barton Road - he is now safe - contact me for help. Had a red collar with an 01443 contact telephone number.
