  1. Voting..... done!

Anthony Powers....IOC, got my ward councillor vote.

Tim Price......Independent, got my parish councillor vote! (Such an enthusiastic guy, with a real love for this part of the city.)

    Diana Toynbee.... Green, National election.

I'm very happy that I've put all my crosses in the right place, for the right people.

Hmm, I thought there were only 2 votes? I voted for IOC local councillor and my vote for the general election, I did not see a 3rd?

  2. I've not been there. If I could park for free to collect potential 'shopping' I might have. I just perceive the site to be a very small scale gimmicky copy of what is offered elsewhere. The cinema doesn't interest me as I got a tv at home that covers the wall. Thousands of channels on it. Can't believe the City Centre is basically structured around offering coffee ...

I would rather see a coffee shop than an empty shop.

  3. If all our city rubbish will soon be going to a new incinerator at Hartlebury in Worcestershire, has anybody thought about the impact of all the dustcarts having to travel east?

I believe Hereford has a total of about 8 dustcarts, so this will make very little difference, besides with an eastern bypass they would go straight from Rotherwas no doubt, so there would be no impact on the city traffic.

  4. Hi all,

Dippy - Yes it is not a polling station atm, so it is fine there and yes I am the Central ward candidate.

Paul - We ask for permission of the land owners and they said we could place it there. If they want to let other candidates post there they can, but other candidates must ask for permission as it is illegal to place stakeboards on people land without their permission.

Victor - yes we are sure

    David

Thank you for responding it is appreciated and good luck in the election.

  5. I know nothing about the cakes of Jesse Norman. It does't sound to me that Jesse has done anything that warrants any more than a slap on the wrist.

Election law is very clear about what you can give/do during an election period. Anything that might be seen as buying a vote is not allowed.

For example, you can call me mean if you wish, but I will not be buying anyone from my Ward a beer in the Vaga or anywhere else until after the election. Nor will I accept one! Election law is very strong on this. ' in the publics view you must not be seen to be in any way buying a vote or putting yourself in a position to be beholden to someone who may be voting for you'.

I hold a Diploma in Election Law and have been fighting election campaigns for forty years. It is always unwise for a candidate to do anything that might be misconstrued.

Other than Independents, who normally are their own Agents, most Party candidates have an election agent who in law is responsible for the actions and words of the candidate and candidates supporters. It's an agents nightmare when a candidate or supporter goes off and does something that might bring the law down on them. Heavy fines or imprisonment awaits for the most serious breach of election law!

I was going to buy you a pint and a curry this week too.

:Winky: I won't offer again ha ha,  seriously though, good luck with your campaign Chris, keep up all the good work that you do.

  6. He will get nowhere because everyone is entitled to their opinion especially when the statements made are true. He will end up embarrassing himself and the party that he represents, tbh he is doing that now, I cannot believe that he is actually going up against another councillor in the same ward, whats that all about, they risk losing both!  :Hmm:

I have the utmost respect for all of those councillors who are active and communicating to their constants through HV and social media, such as Chris Chappell, Robert Preece, Glenda Powell, Adrian Bridges, Jim Kenyon, Jon Norris, Ken Baynham, and Mark Hubbard to name just a few that I have seen contributing and advising members. So are more active than others, nevertheless, its good to see that these councillors are in the 21st century.

I overheard Cllr Edwards slagging off HV some years back, he was talking to someone else at the time and I think he under estimated how big this website would become. People do not want a edited letters page, they want live interactive discussions and this is exactly the vehicle that Colin has provided with HV. Keep up the great work and do not be intimadated or bullied with threats of so called legal action, if someone want to waste their money let them carry on, unless of course they expect to be funded, that will be the next thing.

  7. This is a nice refreshing project and I am in full support. We would need to look at costs obviously but I think if your going to do it then lets do it properly! Don't mess around with little people cars a proper tram system is what is required, it works in cities all across Europe big and small and there is no reason why it could not work here. This council is spending millions on new offices and so called relief roads, this would be a fraction of any of those costs and a massive benefit to the city. Modern trams like the ones in the photographs at the start of this debate are very eco friendly and silent too. They are made with lightweight materials but can also carry mobility scooters in the back carriage giving easy access for disabled people too. I am pleased to see such a positive response, lets keep it that way and get this off the ground. I like Cllr. Chappell's idea of approaching Bulmers as sponsors and the exhibition idea is sensible one too.

  8. It is wonderful to see such a positive reaction to a very simple but very clever idea. I think Colin has hit the nail on the head with this one. A super solution and nothing to knock down to make this a reality either the road is already there, win win as far as I can see. This could be linked to a mini station at the back of the Theatre somewhere to serve the OLM and again end at the train station to serve the town centre. It could even be linked to Rotherwas and the Enterprize Zone.

This would take a huge amount of traffic off those main roads south of the river. This has my vote big time!

  9. Licensing application for Play Nightclub on the Council Website

    Application

End of drinking at 03.30 hrs. Premises to close at 04.00. Additional hour on various other days along similar lines to the Yates application. Which is drinking until 04.30 hrs and close at 05.00 hrs. Plus a round the clock application for New Years Eve time ...

It's a nightclub so this all sounds acceptable to me.

  10. Its this same in France Colin. Personally I think that providing you have spent at the shopping centre then parking should be free and I am not talking a minimum spend of £20 either.

I have always been surprised at car park charges at shopping centres, totally different attitudes in Europe. Parking should be provided free is you have spent money at the centre even if that is just having a coffee, they should be encouraging customers to the centre. Limit free parking to 2 or 3 hours then apply charges to stop people taking the micky.

  11. Hi Ms Wilson...

The fact is the bin people have a job to that includes putting the bin back to a place of safety.....the fact that they do not have enough time or staff is an issue best directed at other people who should have their fingers on the buttons...

The other thing I strongly recommend you do is read the links and research this issue yourself...the fact that we were stupid enough to allow anyone to introduce wheelie bins in the first place.....is the real issue here.....cos none of this would matter if that had happened...

And just think about how rich the manufacturers of these bins have become.....if only I had friends in high places, who could force people to have to buy my product..I'd be a billionaire over night....oh someone already is!!

Dear smartieno1, I know you directed your response to H.Wilson but I would just like to add my view and that is I think long term wheelie bins have to save money. I was spending on average just under £3.50 every couple of months on black bags, yes you can buy cheaper bags but from my experience you only get what you pay for and the cheaper one often split. You can buy a wheelie for less than £30 and I would of thought the the council would of bought them considerably cheaper for bulk, so these bins will pay for themselves in no time. Issues of blocking pavements is a problem hat i believe needs addressing however, this is the same problem that existed with black bags only birds cant damage the bins in the same way as they did with bags, before the bins were introduced we used to have rubbish and waste food on the pavement because of birds and cats breaking the bags open.

  12. Do you really believe that this was a random attack on a "High Profile" target?  I find it hard to believe that they can keep Salman Rushdie safe for years but not this organisation..and isn't it amazing how they have just managed to identify the gunmen in a matter of hours but couldn't prevent this happening...

I wonder if it could just be.... nothing more than a smokescreen to erode even more of our freedoms?

I was shocked at the atrocities I watched yesterday but today I am appalled to read this Phil, surprised at you for falling for this rubbish, I really am. This is the sort of crap that other weirdo David Icke would say.

  13. Well done Ubique!

I agree with Colin's stance.....they should be named and shamed.

How would they feel if their wife, daughter, or indeed anyone they knew, was refused a fare to take them safely home?

Common decency should mean that these fares should not be refused.

It also begs the question "When is a taxi, not a taxi?" Perhaps trading standards might have a take on this??

I too agree, name and shame them, a letter to the HT is a good idea too.

  14. Well well well, just read this is the HT's

Council admits "complete misjudgement" over grass cutting

HEREFORDSHIRE Council has admitted that it "completely misjudged" the public response to slashing its spend on grass cutting.

That response pushed the council into a policy shift that radically altered its budget saving plans.

Now, every councillor has been told they have a duty to downplay what can be expected from the council's £200 million 10-year public realm contract with Balfour Beatty.

And if communities want more beyond what the contract offers, they will have to go DIY.

  15. I will probably get slammed for this but... this is the problem with Hereford oh lets save this building oh and lets save this black and white wall and this special medieval window, I really wish this lot had burned to the ground, I really do because by now we would of had a nice new modern building, instead of the monstrosity still hanging by a thread waiting for someone to start working on it. Nobody wants it! And even when it is finally restored it will continue to be listed and no future tenant will want to touch these buildings with a barge pole and who can blame them? More hassle than they are worth add this to the Hereford Council rates and bam! Welcome to Hereford's ghost town. They have also ruined what could of been a spectacular new shopping centre, it looks just like the old cattle market, pig sheds! (I know this was their aim, so I hope they are happy with the brick shed we now have)

Alex, you will not get slammed by me because I am 100% of the same opinion, it is no wonder there are so many empty shops they should of knocked it down in the first place, we mights have a River Island or some other shops with apartments above open and trading by now, how many years is it?
