  1. Yes Victor, I think whichever way you view it - this is one ugly building.

I think that 1970's style blue and pink wall cladding would be an improvement on this.

It's an eyesore, and it isn't even open yet.

Such a shame, I was quite excited about this new shopping centre and cinema, I guess my expectations of a slightly modernised hereford were a tad high, why do they insist on keeping it looking OLD you can add modern too it's no wonder the city just looks so dark and dismal a bit of light might help after all.

  2. I would think nowadays they will use LED less pollution but it will need brightening up because to me it looks like one huge shed, hardly any windows and a vile roof to match, I was really hoping for a nice modern centre facing the city because it just looks back to front to me, we are looking at the back surely? I was expecting some big modern glass all around the bend which would look so much more inviting to the brick wall we have now.

  3. Colin

I wonder how many of those cars had only one occupant. There is a perfectly good cycle/footpath into town from Belmont. Yes I know it won't suit everyone and I know it might not go to the front door of where you want to shop or work but if we are going to solve the traffic congestion we must look at the alternatives. Today the new pedestrian/cycle route bridge link to Rotherwas from Hampton Park was opened - if you live in Tupsley and work in Rotherwas it is a godsend. That should take some cars away from the roads.

But ponder on this - if you vote for Its Our County then there will be no by pass and you will have to get used to walking or cycling or bus. So you may as well start now

Are you sure that this is the IOC's policy to have no bypass and walk and cycle everywhere? if it is they will not have my vote, we are desperate for a bypass or another bridge, I am in favour of an eastern bypass personally.

  4. And they want to build a possible 89 houses at Peterchurch/185 houses  at Kingstone/there's a hint there is a PA lurking at Madley for 90 houses and then there is it 89 at Belmont  a quick calculation is a total of 453 houses could be at least the same number of cars trying to get into Hereford each morning - oh please.

The council and HA should address the road problems in and around Hereford instead of objecting to more housing which is desperately needed!

  5. I used to overtake all the rat runners down by Oval when I lived on the farm.Always said there should be an access only sign down Southolme Rd

See I disagree, the people who use rat runs are normally local and if this in turn relieves traffic, even just a little bit from the main then so what! But no what did the council do with Springfield Ave, oh yes, they made it one way and guess what happened then? You got it, those few cars end up back on the Belmont Rd, how clever.

  6. I'll fire off a few emails.

Indeed, most of the entrances are ridiculously small, I clip my wheel on the edge every time because the turning room is so small. The car park itself is far too cramp as well, but I think the biggest issue is the entrance/exit. Sacrifice 2 spaces, move a foot of hedge, I'd do it myself! It's not like they need those 2 spaces, A: They are rarely used because they are the last spaces in the entire carpark, B: If you get in, you need to do a 180 turn within the total width of 2 cars to get out (as it's right next to the exit) and C: Half the people park on Perserance Road....

.... which leads me on to, how do we go about getting double yellows on the junction ends of Perseverance Road? Again I was nearly hit by an oncoming car on the wrong side of the road yesterday... Glenda?

Any luck with your emails? Did you get any response? What about CVP any luck with B&M?

  7. Yes there are 4 lanes not 3 my bad, ok I have attached a photo from the link you provided  it is the R lane on the roads it sats A49S but surely this is wrong? If it is not it's confusing because you cannot stay in lane! At some point (just past the 3rd exit) you need to swing back across into what would then be the middle lane because there are only 3 lanes from the Edgar Street exit. This 4th lane in my opinion should just be for the A438 exit...

    attachicon.gifhfd6.png

Yes yes yes!!! I have always wondered WHY when there are 3 lanes all around this roundabout that this silly little section has got 4 lanes? The far right lane that Colin James is referring to should ONLY be for the A438 exit because this is causing problems too.

  8. I like the idea of putting 'stay in lane' on the road signs that were suggested by Colin

What we need is either a police officer or highways agency officers stood near the top of the new 3rd lane, asking people who have decided to drive into it if they intend using it correctly and making sure they continue to the A438 (Whitecross/Brecon Rd) because they CANNOT now change lanes! That will stop them !

  9. I am also against domestic violence Chris, not sure what we can do to highlight this problem but I will tell you a little story.

I work as a door supervisor in Hereford and have done for over 15 years (not so much these days) and I finished working one Friday night at around 2.30am and proceeded to drive home through town and over the bridge heading to Belmont where I live. I drove along the Belmont Road, more or less opposite Farm Foods and I noticed a man actually punching a woman in the face ( I assumed his wife or gf ) my instinct took over and I immediately stopped the car and ran over to stop him, he then started to attack me and I shouted what are you doing and restrained him, then all of a sudden his wife started to hit me shouting leave my F***king husband alone!

The moral of this story is do not get involved I guess, however, sometimes there is no easy answer and I for one could not ignore someone being attacked, you could argue that you can only help those who ask for help I suppose, but what I will say is that a lot of men are abused too! I think you have totally forgot to mention that... or assumed from the tone of your post, that domestic violence implies that the perpetrator is always the man, which is not always the case sir!

    Domestic violence on men

Colin you beat me to it! I appreciate that the majority of violence comes from men at woman but there are a lot of cases of male victims who just sit in silence as they are embarrassed to speak out!

  10. Chill out, it won't belong before its not worth going out in the day time, let alone after dark, a few more shop closures, shut a couple more car parks along with the extra congestion caused by the partial closure of Newmarket street and bobs your uncle, town centre closed ,no problem.

Come and spend the day in Hereford, Park in the park and ride and spend a happy time sat on the bus in the traffic trying to get back into town (Christmas only), visit the Bandstand, the Radcliffe Water Gardens, the Paddling Pool, teach your kids to swim at the LEA pool instead of the river, visit the Race Course (which some councillors want turned over to houses), sit in high town under the trees, as long as you don't want to use the bog. Have a great time in the supermarkets and charity shops while we chop down a few more trees.

What is the slogan on the hoardings around the new shopping development? something like City living Country life, (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). I wish they would do an ASDA and roll me back to the late 70's, what a great place Hereford was then, plenty of life and full of people, although some things do not change, I remember the Councillor (Mr Chips) trying to use the police to close a burger van near by, as it seemed his customers preferred the van to his shop. Still as long as they pat themselves on the back and say well done to each other, regardless of which political party they happen to support on the day, then I say our councillors are well worth the money.

I agree with you Phil, Mr Chips was Councillor Alan Williams who later became the Mayor of Hereford.

I went to use the toilets behind Marks & Spencer's yesterday and they are closed, use a local shop or pub they say, the Queens Arms have a sign in their window saying toilets for customers only so complain to the Council. But going back to the main topic, why can people not buy hot food after 1.30am? They have overcome this problem by opening The Lunch Box and selling sandwiches like it has already been said. Hereford Council need to get their act together because locals are choosing to go shopping and clubbing in other cities.

  11. Sorry Victor Wright but I don't recall saying that 'we' should not welcome our new Councillors  to clarify what I actually said  was I had been here before.  Emphasis on 'I'  it's my opinion and I have very good reason for thinking as I do.  You are entitled to your opinion I would never try and persuade you otherwise, nor would I criticise you for them since I don't know what experience you've had dealing with Councillors. I do know mine so my comment is justified. Kind  regards to you

Wo wo, calm down, you actually responded to bobby47's first post in which he did say he was not going to be so welcoming bla bla ?? And this experience that I do not know about dealing with councillors was that experience on this forum? No! So what I am merely saying is give them a chance here, kind regards to you  :Winky:

  12. I'm with Bobby on the first post (sorry Colin) I've been here before and it never goes well!

So what you are saying is that we should not welcome our new Councillor members? How negative like someone has already said, give them a chance..

To have Councillors available to respond to discussions, surely has to be a positive thing, even if their response is not what you want to hear, otherwise whats the point.  :Hmm:

Welcome to HV to all the new Councillors who have joined.

  13. So I suppose that infertile heterosexual people are abnormal too?

I would define that as yes to be honest in the nicest possible way, if they were normal they would not be infertile?
