  1. I'm making reference to Jim's potential as an MP at national level. Sitting Independent MPs can carry much weight when Government is trying to secure the transition of a Bill through Parliament. Sure he won't get much of a say at local level however we can't forget that local conservatives generally tow the party line and I'm sure pressure can be applied from above when necessary. As for Brexit well what's to be done...well nothing it doesn't really matter what his position is on this because it's going to happen whether we like it or not. Jim may well be able to secure more from central government for his constituents than our current MPs who may occasionally squeak at mum but generally fall into line with house rules.
  2. I would dearly love to post something on the HT site but it is so bloody rubbish with all the clutter trying to load up. I've sat within Jim's patch for a few years now and he's done nothing but good here. He does not have to play the party game he doesn't need to have a personal opinion or position on any policy pitched by the current outfit and we are talking one outfit because all the others are finished. Jim needs to have his doors open and be prepared to listen to his constituents and not some party office somewhere in lala land. Anyone voting Labour,Lib Dem, Greens or IOC in this county will be wasting there time....so give your vote to someone who gives a damn otherwise it's just another run of Conservative blue in Herefordshire. Give the bloke a chance what have you really got to lose.
  3. If he got in as an Independent the parties would be all over him for his support and as we all know everything comes at a price...so Jim might get better delivery on promises ...Well at least more so than the current crowd.
  4. Well this was my wish and I'm pleased Jim has made the call! Bloody good luck mate.
  5. Sadly I agree TWG so I would be more inclined to vote for someone keen to support those issues that affect the county and not a political group. Mrs May wants a mandate to push through tough decisions and of course silence those that claim she is in charge by default. There is no viable alternative at this time and when in commerce and holding a monopoly then for those privileged few the good times role. A sad state of affairs for this great nation.
  6. Well his appointment as Mayor did expose him a little to some of the cronies that we have in this county..but he has done an awful lot of good as councillor on my patch sometimes above and beyond his brief.
  7. Well I would give Jim the nod but more as an Independent rather than IOC.
  8. So we will see locally an IOC candidate or an Independent pitch ...so the question is who?...I have an idea who might thanksgiving it a go.
  9. Well that's true however there might be a fly in the ointment. UKIP are a spent force and there are many disgruntled Tories so could this possibly help push up the numbers once more for Lib Dems especially the pro Europe ticket. A gamble by the conservatives might find themselves losing seats rather than strengthening their position...
  10. Oh here we go again!...well let's see how many of those members with political ambition resurrect themselves back to this site ...God help us. Clever in one way but a huge gamble in so many others.
  11. It seems that the larger picture of an M4/M5 relief road from the heads of the valley is gathering pace. Anyone that's travelled on this road out of Abergavenny has to be impressed by the engineering that has taken place, in comparison the pretty modest obstruction at Pontrilas means a pretty straight road could be converted to a bypass with ease. This road could be banging on the outskirts of Belmont before you know it. There is more chance of the western bypass starting here and heading north across the river well before the element between Rotherwas and the A465. Funded centrally it might even come before the housing infill.
  12. Hi everyone. Hope this is ok but I know of a true Herefordshire lad whose about to open his very first shop. He's put everything into this new business venture and I wish both him and his business partners the very best of luck. Ledbury Tackle & Bait 44 Bye Street Ledbury HR8 2AA Opening Saturday 4th February 2017 at 8.30 am.
  13. Yes I know where your coming from TWG. The robes of office can place you in company that would not normally be your preferred choice. Shame.
  14. Doing nothing is not an option it's actually the worst that could happen. We do love our bubble here in Herefordshire but there is a far bigger picture and this road will come whether it be East or West it will come. Personally I would think ahead and go orbital with two lanes and be done with it. As stated before the national transport infrastructure is in a state of collapse but the truth is that for many of us that rarely travel out of the County we don't want to know about this and are only bothered if it affects our quality of life. Sadly that's the people that we've become yet most of us have children, grandchildren that are affected by our thought processes. We can convince ourselves that we are thinking of their interests but in reality it's a selfish mindset. Survival can only be guaranteed if we tread a path of peaceful co-existence with each other and our environment.Failure to adapt in changing times means extinction and this rule of thumb can be applied to pretty much everything.
  15. I think Colin created a new topic as a result.
  16. Yes that's correct...I posted it. I wanted to pitch a positive message about new shops opening...seems I was correct then.
  17. Wishing all members of Hereford Voice a Happy New Year. Many of us will be presented with fresh opportunities and tough challenges however we should never feel isolated in what we face. Believe it or not there are still people and organizations out there that care without condition or catch. This is a great forum and I have met some incredible people within it and conversed with others not necessarily in agreement but with honesty and freedom....let's hope this continues. All the best GK.
  18. I believe there is a plan ultimately to do just that...extending the A465 from Abergavenny to Hereford would be easy apart from the Pontrillas bridge....it's almost a dead straight road in open country. Dual carriageway sections will almost certainly come for the 49.
  19. Sadly sometime back I mentioned that this would be the ultimate use of the A49 you only have to regularly use the M5/M6 to understand why.Its an almost perfect North /South route. As for the rail network.. well again this has been discussed previously and plans to push more freight traffic through this route are being drawn up so it can keep off the central rail lines. We may have been fighting the southern link road as a local issue however there is a grand plan a bigger picture so to speak.
  20. Yes you are right TWG the bulk of these properties will be over £300K but I think around 30% is affordable so will this supplemental charge be applied to rents via the Housing Association? ....if it is then it isn't going to be affordable. If it isn't then you can see a great deal of animosity building on the development. Looking on a couple of sites within Hereford at this time a small three bedder is going to cost at least £275K. I believe Barrats are informing purchases of the charge however if you wanted to resell later then depending how fast the charges increased might make it a difficult home to sell.
  21. Now I wish to open a can of worms and I want opinion. A lot of negotiations went on regarding this site and on balance it looks like a good result. I however learnt something last week which throws a dirty rag over the whole site. Herefordshire Council will not be adopting the site.....street lighting, maintenance, play areas, balancing ponds, everything in fact will be managed by a third party. The cost...a staggering £360 per year fee for all properties including unaffordable homes. No doubt yearly increases will be capped however what action would be taken against those that wont/cant pay. So unless you can advise differently your council tax on this site will be paying for just a fortnightly bin collection. Very short sighted by the council and a guaranteed problem development for the future.
  22. Can anyone tell my why we don't have a true German style Christmas market like many cathedral cities?
