  1. Thanks for the heads-up manse1968. I live very near the area and think it would be a disaster if the proposed development were to go ahead, if i am able, I will do my best to attend.
  2. Great, so now, not many people can sit in long traffic jams for ages on a smaller bus. Brilliant!
  3. In my opinion, not that it counts for much, if this sort of development has to go ahead, then to make any sense it needs to be on existing decent travel links. Which does make the Ewyas Harold / Pontrilas area very attractive - especially if Pontrilas's railway station is re-instated. Good links to Hereford and onwards. And also into Wales. Another place worth considering would be between the roundabouts of the A40 and end of the M50 at Ross, good road links, but this time with no real chance of any rail links (highly unlikely that the Hereford - Ross line will be rebuilt!) How about Moreton-On-Lugg/Wellington Marsh? Again, decent road link and the potential of reinstating rail links from the old MOD land. As I say, only my opinion...
  4. Wow! It's all kicked off on here, hasn't it? Friday afternoon... No comments. Now, 50+ Wowsers. I have no intention of doing any finger-pointing at anyone specifically, buuuuttt.... If this house has been empty for fifteen years, that's fifteen years!! Surely all those who have involved in attempting to sort this issue out are just a little guilty of glaring inaction. Phil Edwards may be the area councillor now, but has only been in the job since May, as others have pointed out, nobody seems to have sorted this out in the previous 14 1/2 years, so to expect him to have got it don in 2 months is a little bit unfair.
  5. Paul Neades... What exactly do you want to hear from Glenda? She replied in post 4 that if control of the city council had changed then she would still be there? Is that not an honest enough answer for you? Just because you don't agree with what she said, or reasons for saying it, it doesn't mean it isn't honest. So, I'll rest it there.
  6. Ladies and gentlemen... Be upstanding... Bobby is back! Oh, it's not my bike either.
  7. In fairness, she shouldn't have done it. It does seem a little heavy handed, but the parent knew it was wrong and was expecting to be fined, so clearly didn't care about taking her child out of school in term-time. Now she has to deal with her actions. Maybe it is over the top from the Council, but, where do they draw the line? People would be up in arms if the school/council had known a parent had taken a child out of school for several weeks at a time and yet did nothing. The school/Children's Services have a duty of care to the children they look after, there are some rather bad parents around, and without investigation how are they to know whether a prolonged absence is innocent or not? I'm sure after the meeting/investigation all will be cleared up...
  8. 49? With city of temporary buildings that have been added to the landscape of Blackfriars, that must make it very nearly one child per classroom... It was almost worth turfing out the council staff from there when you look at it that way.
  9. Uh-oh... <Grabs crash helmet and runs for cover!> You're gonna be for it now, Jonny!
  10. I agree with Jonny. It is just far too expensive to use the bus around Hereford. For myself, my wife and my son to get to town it costs over £5 one way, and takes 20+ minutes, to travel the mile and a half there. We can walk it in that time and save £5 in the process. Plus, the route on which I live is serviced a lot of the time by double decker busses, which have 2 or 3 passengers (usually pensioners) on board each time. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that that will not make the route profitable. Hoppers were good for the time, but I can't see anybody using them now though, people are just too set in their ways/lazy to get out of their cars.
  11. People will get used to them. They'll have to. I personally don't mind the LED lights. They are less prone to breakdown, last longer, are more economical to run and there is much less light pollution from them. Admittedly some are going to go wrong, there is a light on the path between Plough Lane and Yazor Road that is on during the day... My only gripe is that the council missed a bit of a trick by not getting lights with a solar panel on them. Imagine every new street light having a solar cell on the top, collecting power for the light when it's dark and feeding the excess into the national grid all day long. It would be an enormous solar farm but without having fields and fields full of solar panels.
  12. Dippy, this is the e-mail I received from Clive Joyce the editor at the HT: Thank you for your email regarding the article on our website. Following our discussions with the senior investigating officer on this case, we have already described the stabbing incident in some detail, in both our print edition and on our website. We have used images of the murder scene, images of police searching the area and a photograph of the victim. During our coverage, we have explained Mr Bagley’s harrowing last moments as told to us by the senior investigating police officer, and indeed clarified with him that these details were important to be made public as the police hoped they would prompt someone to come forward to assist their investigation. The image of blood on the wall at Rogers Avenue – which I would point out is in a public place and can be seen by any member of the public at any time - was following up the description we had already reported. Before publication, we checked with the police to see if they had any issue with us publishing this image in terms of possibly compromising their investigations, and they had no problem with us publishing it. I realise that this is a distressing time for Mr Bagley’s family. We had contact with them earlier this week, but I think it is important to say that they have not contacted us with any observations about our coverage at this point in time. If they do so, we would, of course, seriously consider any comments they wish to make with regard to past or future coverage. At present (16:40 on Friday 26/06/2015) there are 45 comments, every one saying that the story and image is inappropriate and should be removed. Sensitivity at the Hereford Times? No thanks.
  13. I think we are wandering off topic slightly here, the whys and wherefores of lighting and CCTV, although an important issue, are not the main issue here. That is the tragic death of a young man, in horrific circumstances. There is a pretty insensitive and sensationalist report on the Hereford Times at the moment that has sunk, in my opinion to the levels of the gutter journalism. I urge all of you to register your dissatisfaction and call for its removal and an apology in its place. http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/13353777.Hereford_murder_probe_latest__Bloody_hand_print_hints_at_the_horror_of_victim_s_last_minutes/
  14. This is tragic news for Christians family and loved ones. It's a terrible event that has taken place, and hopefully those responsible will be found and brought to justice swiftly. However, I don't believe that CCTV along GWW would have done anything to prevent this from happening, admittedly there is an increased likelihood of identification, but judging by some of the blurred and grainy images that are released at times, would a positive identification even be possible? I may be wrong, but to me this seems unlikely to have been a random attack, and far more likely to have been a disagreement that escalated out of control leading to the awful conclusion that we are now all reading and talking about. I just hope that people don't become too scared to go about their daily routines because of what has happened. Hereford is essentially a very safe place to live still and people must try to remember this at this difficult time. RIP Young man.
  15. Apologies Cambo, not really the subject to be making jokes about. It will be interesting to see if a motive is forthcoming, or if it will end up being "just another mass shooting" in America. Whatever happens, I'm pretty sure there will be lots of bandwagon jumping from certain sections of society over there.
  16. Cambo, I saw this too, truly shocking. But I don't think you could pin it on the Freedom church. Americans and their guns eh? They still don't need/want tighter gun control...
  17. Hi All,This is serious. Please BEWARE! Over the last month I became a victim of a clever 'Eastern European'scam while out shopping. Simply dropping into Tesco's for a bit of shopping resulted in the following...... Don't be naïve enough to think it won't happen to you or your friends. Here's how the scam works:Two very good looking voluptuous 20-21 year-old girls came over to my car as I was packing my shopping into the boot. They both started cleaning my windscreen, their boobs almost falling out of their skimpyT-shirts. When I thanked them and offered them a tip, they said 'No' and instead asked me for a lift to another supermarket. I agreed and they both got in the back seat. On the way, they started undressing, and both got completely in the buff. Then, when I pull over to remonstrate, one of them climbed over into the front seat and started crawling all over my lap, trying to kiss me and touch me intimately, thrusting herself against me. While the other one stole my wallet! I had my wallet stolen May 14th, 19th, 20th, twice on the 25th, 27th, 30th. Also June 3rd, 7th, 10th, 14th and twice yesterday. P.S. Wallets are available from Poundstretcher for £1.49...
  18. It worries me as to what the plans for Three Elms Trading Estate will be... Will there be another attempt to land-grab the tennis courts as there previously, but unsuccessfully, was? Bring back Freezer Fayre I say... That would show the likes of Aldi & Lidl a thing or two about budget shopping!!
  19. I think my comments have been misinterpreted, my fault, the way I wrote it. What I meant was that people who eat takeaways on a very regular basis, not once in a while. I apologise for any offence I may have caused. My mistake, sorry.
  20. Sustainability of the 'greasy takeouts' is neither here nor there, while people are too lazy too cook for themselves, or too ignorant to realize that too much of that type of food has a detrimental effect on the human body, then they will continue to do rather well for themselves. Not sure what people using food banks has to do with the sustainability of a take-away. Obviously if you are in need of food banks to survive then you are not going to be using any sort of take-away on a regular basis. It doesn't mean that other people in the near-vicinity are also unable to afford to buy a take away.
  21. I accidentally caught the Freedom Church programme on TBN on Sunday morning (I was looking for Star Trek - Honest!). I thought it was all a bit "Cool Religious Studies Teacher" crossed with bad stand up comedian... I can see how the slightly open-to-suggestion and weaker-willed amongst us could possibly get drawn in, but the amount of supposedly bright, intelligent, high-achievers that seem to be part of this group is either strange, or, the bright, intelligent, high-achievers aren't actually as bright and intelligent as they seem to be...
  22. Methodists in the news today now... Abuse allegations going back to the 1950's... Who will be found next to have spent decades abusing those who they claim to look after, I wonder...
  23. Excellent. Thanks Mark. I really wouldn't worry too much about the flood sign. It was a ridiculous addition in the first place!!
  24. The report says blocked near Newtown Road, so I would guess that it is near the mini roundabout at the Widemarsh Common end of Holmer Road.
