  1. I think, in reality, most people would agree to the idea of a new pub, but as the nearby Heart Of Oak closed due to lack of custom, the Lads club has it's own client base, and there is the Golden Lion (shudder) the Starting Gate and the Grandstand all reasnonbly close by, who is going to keep it going?
  2. Well Ubique, as it's Church of England land, I would assume that it would be ploughed back into charitable concerns and help for those less fortunate... <Cough>
  3. Is anybody in any doubt that the "necessary upgrades" to pipework currently being undertaken through the fields by Three Elms and Moor Farm are connected with the above?
  4. HerefordMan, that is kind of my point. On the whim of some suit, sitting in head office somewhere, a pub can suddenly change direction completely, whereas if they took a little time to know the actual areas that their pubs sit in, they could be more cleverly marketed. But then, if that were to be allowed, how would i find a Wetherspoons in Slough? Or a Greene King in Worksop? Corporate branding, not at its finest.
  5. The thing that strikes me as odd is the constant need for the bigger chain pubs to need complete refurbishment. I know it's a difficult time for pubs in general, but, if you get it right first time... Does anyone remember the last time places like The Barrels, The Victory, The Britannia last had a major refurb? Just putting the question out there...
  6. Nothing of any note will happen on Bishops Meadows or King George V playing fields as it would involve probable investment from the council, who, as we all know are skint, and have less than 0% interest in anything that would give the population somewhere to do, or something to do. Unless they can charge everybody entry or parking (more likely though, both.) So, it will stay as football fields as they can charge teams for the use. Simple income with no outlay other than the occasional grass cutting. Happy days eh? Wow. That is a depressing post by me. Apologies to all.
  7. I couldn't agree more, having a wander through town on Sunday lunchtime... Along Commercial Street, the ex-Chadds doorways had a, what I would like to describe as "wonderful", but alas I cannot, it was a vile aroma of urine atop rubbish, atop grime... Aaah, my dogs liked the smell. They were the only ones though! <heave!>
  8. All that sitting on the fence has paid off then?
  9. Okay TWG, last word on helmets... Please? I always, always wear my TSG lid. And I make sure my son always wears his, And, i actively encourage friends who are cyclist to wear a helmet also. Having seen a friend of a friend fall off, at a very low speed (less than 5mph) and bang his head causing serious brain injuries, it's better to be safe, in my opinion.
  10. Mentioned above is the disregard that some motorists have towards cyclists. Here is another example... Saturday morning, just gone (2nd July 2016) I was out for a bike ride, nice and early to start the day... I decided to ride up Aylestone Hill from the A4103 roundabout. Now, just past Aylestone Park, going up the hill towards town there is a painted cycle lane... Parked half on the pavement and most of the way over the cycle lane was...... A driving instructor!?! What chance is there for anybody?

    Euro Exit

Yet, come August, the masses will be clamouring to watch their "heroes" once again. They really do earn their pay, don't they? Obviously, I'm referring to the Icelandic players! Not the clueless, heartless, passionless, useless England players! The only two on the field that showed any kind of desire were Vardy and Rashford in my opinion, the rest were just awful. But then, what is new? The last time England played with any determination was in Eruo '96. And they were mostly drunk then!
  12. Fair play, seems like it was the best option in the circumstances. I was finding it very hard to believe that it had been hit by lightning to be honest.
  13. I was for voting out, but have reluctantly changed my mind. I don't actually want to remain in the EU, personally, but the campaign to leave has me even more worried about the future unfortunately. Both sides are a bunch of utter liars, that think we, the people will believe anything they spout. Unfortunately it would appear that on the most part, they are right. With Cameron being the worst. How he expects anyone to believe anything he says is beyond me... What with his speech to the CBI last year claiming that we would be fine outside the EU, we're the fifth biggest economy in the world, our manufacturing is world respected etc... But now, if we were to dare leave it would be a disaster, culminating in the possibility of millions of job losses, and potentially World War Three?!!?? I think it just preposterous that he can carry on whichever way the vote goes. That said, the Leave side of things are a complete bunch of mentalists. I sometimes catch myself listening to, and partially agreeing with Boris, then he goes and claims crap like the Tata steelworks closed because the EU wouldn't let them pay less for their electricity?!? A vote Leave is one to save the NHS? Really, with a gang of people waiting to take over that seriously want to dismantle it and privatise it? Then again, there are those types on both sides... If we vote to leave, what is the plan? Who will be in charge? I have not yet seen anything coherent from the Leave side, which is a bit of a worry considering the vote is tomorrow... Whichever way we vote, all I hope is that A: Liar Cameron and Slimy Osborne get the elbow. B: People start to become more like the French, and are prepared to stand up for their rights a bit more, and make the politicians do the job that WE, the people voted them in to do. No more bland, middle of the road, safest option for them, politics. More honesty, more belief in their polices, and more actual answers when questioned. I'm sure I've come across as a bit of a loon myself, but that goes to show the confused nature of both campaigns in my opinion... Sorry, and good luck to everybody... Whichever way it goes, I think we'll need it.
  14. So I heard, it got hit by lightning? Strange as it's not exactly the tallest standing thing in that area, but it was badly damaged by something and was in danger of falling into the road... Apparently... Will be missed... I used to hide under there on the way home from the pub if it was raining.
  15. There were 15 hardy souls that braved the weather to take on the rain, puddles and "interesting" road surface at Allensmore yesterday (Thursday 16th June) evening. I did, as I mentioned in comment #5, take part on my BMX, completing the course in 38:13, which, considering the fact that I do not have gears, is a pretty good time, and a full 7 minutes quicker than when I rode the route last Saturday. Good fun was had by all, I think... I enjoyed myself anyway.
  16. Unbelievably, over in crazy-FaceBookland, there is more than one person actually defending them!?!? As we, as taxpayers, have effectively been paying their mortgage, does that mean we can move in with them if we so choose?
  17. Mr Symonds... What a silly comment. I cycle to and from work every day, and go for rides most weekends. As long as you pay attention, obey the traffic rules and aren't a complete idiot, it is perfectly safe to cycle around Hereford. Quite frankly, I think your comments are ridiculous to be honest. the cycling infrastructure could be better in Hereford, but it is certainly not life threatening. For the record, I will be entering the Allensmore Time Trial this Thursday... On my BMX!
  18. That is a brilliant, well articulated letter by Joyce Clare. Well said and good for her.
  19. Whilst I agree that it is a completely cynical way of making money from an easy target, if you're sticking to the speed limit there won't be any problem.
  20. I wouldn't disagree with that comment Ipusseycat: "Make no mistake the BBC is a tory front man full of corruption." It was very interesting to see the change in reporting the weekend before the full Junior Doctors strike recently. It was almost unbiased one day, then the Saturday before the first full strike day, the whole reporting shifted somewhat to concentrate on how dangerous it was, how much patient care had suffered in the previous strikes etc etc... And before that the almost blanket coverage of the Archbishop of Canterbury's parentage story on the same day that a huge protest march in London got zero coverage on any BBC channel... Who's in charge of our "Free" media again?
  21. Glenda, I can't help noticing the same city-xenophobia from yourself as from others that run-down the south side. I think it is a bit of a rash claim to make to say that people North of the river care less about each other than people that live in the South. And can you honestly say that the youths of Newton Farm have never been responsible for any wrong-doing?
  22. The North / South divide eh? Brilliant. The outdoor gym in the field near Moor Farm was but a couple of weeks old before local youths had ripped the sign off its mount and thrown it in Yazor Brook, and bent some of the equipment. The equipment that is there is covered in graffiti, some of it quite fruity. Now, are those that blame the southside kids for everything, going to blame them for the above too? Because it was kids that live in Moor Farm that are to blame for that one. The problem is not the area they live in, it is their lack of common decency. Have a word with the parents...
  23. Cambo, Denise. I have just signed the petition (09:50) now at 97,559... Again, well done JC.
  24. There has been a lot of clearing work done on the site of the old school buildings in recent weeks, and the paths surrounding the area. I had a feeling that some new planning requests would be imminent...
  25. Solidus, atm63 does have a point. Walk along the lines, by the slope down to Riverside school, on the other side of the path look at the back of one particular property... It is used as a dump. But just at the end of one garden. Are you suggesting that other people are adding to the rubbish at the end of that property? Or, is it more likely to be the person's that live there just dumping their rubbish over the fence?
