  1. We have common ground politically, just as you do with others on here. Are you all joined at the hip? You certainly act like a pack.

A group of people who do not necessarily always agree with your views and branded as a pack now? How strange people react when others disagree with them.

  2. Rebecca has made a valid point. I think we should contribute in helping genuine refugees and this substantial offer of money will go a long way together with the other donors to help I am sure but I am not sure how much more we can really do. Helping these people within their own region is a big positive.

  3. I understand that one of the shops in Eign Gate is going to be the Samaritans Charity Shop .

I agree re Eign St . Every time we pass the empty shops opposite Steels Garage Mrs Ubique remarks that they should be knocked down and replaced by flats or just convert the shops etc to homes . Two shops on the garage side of Eign St by the Church have in the last few months been converted to homes so it can be done .

I am with Paul Jones, I am not in favour in changing our city centre into a residential area. These shops/units need updating and made to look more attractive to potential businesses.

As soon as more residents move into the city centre the more objections pubs/restaurants and clubs face.

  4. Looney, lefty, tree hugger checking in.....

Most of the media reporting on the horrific Paris atrocities, now report that the passport was stolen and planted, on an as yet unidentified person. Others involved have all been positively identified. They are all either French or Belgian Nationals. This thread seems to have omitted this information, which is a shame -although not a surprise -  as this seemed to be the crux of the initial debate......

Depending on which report you read on this latest story, the group involved have been known to police/security services for some time, and are not new refugees. Clearly, whatever their race or immigration status, what has occurred is completely unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Samantha Lewthwaite remains on Interpol's most wanted list.

Responsible for terror raids, car bombings, suicide bombings, as well as masterminding last months terror attack on a university in Kenya, which saw 148 people gunned down.

    Female, white and British.

We don't seem to make much mention of her, or indeed Jihad John.... or the latest UK suspect....

We have far more to fear from young people who are radicalised HERE. This is where the real threat will come from.

Demonising the refugees, who themselves are fleeing from certain death is not the way to go, yet they seem to remain the target and focus.

I shall certainly be supporting the recommendations from the International Development Committee which states we should also take in 3000 unaccompanied children, as well as the 20,000 refugees already agreed.

Cologne Suspects Include 18 Asylum Seekers

Most of the 31 people questioned so far over the New Year mayhem were in the process of seeking asylum in Germany, officials say.

  5. TWG The sweeper was around tonight after dark sweeping the road outside my home. when I was a councillor I had arranged with the council for the construction staff to park their vehicles in the unused car park in Waterfield Road, they would not do it claiming the car park was to far away for them to park there. My door and windows are filthy from all the mud off the road spraying my home. I clean the door and window sills every day because they are white, between the mud and the road flooding  its a mess, and now next week they are closing the road around the Oval just making it one-way for some time. It is total caos here, and nobody cares. As this development is HHL they should be fined in my opinion they have employed the contractors to build their housing.

Fined? Fined for what? Because we have had loads of rain which turns building sites into mud? Get real Glenda, this is a major building development, what did you expect? This area will be less dirty in the summer but I am not sure what more they can do.

  6. The Council spend 10 years and many, many millions of pounds preparing a new Core Strategy which will govern all development for the next 20 years. Yet, just 6 weeks after adopting it, councillors choose to ignore the whole thing and approve this. Quite extraordinary and very worrying. We've seen it before and no doubt will see it again.

It is disgusting in all honesty.

  7. Both Cllr Bob Preece and Cllr Chris Chappell have been opposed to this garage application since it was first submitted back in February 2012. I stick to my original comments which you will find here.

I agree with what K.Butt wrote back then because both Cllr's clearly think there will be additional traffic which is not going to happen in reality.

    Thank you Bill.

The issue that the council always refer too in this location is that of the traffic and the councils failure to deal with it, this should have nothing to do with Asda's planning application,  just pass this application it will make NO DIFFERENCE TO THE TRAFFIC!

They could do with opening the little slip road, create a 'give way' at the end of if allowing people to filter left over the bridge. No need for lights there.

  8. Lets put that into perspective...9 million have fled Syria, one terrorist

Most of the terrorists have links to the French terrorists family, two were North African.

One was a young blonde haired blue eyed boy.

You can dress it up as much as you like ragwert it only takes 1! I cannot go into Greece without my passport and I am European!

The EU has made a big mistake here and been caught good and proper with it's trousers down and Angela Merkel will also regret what she has done in my opinion, you will see what the German people think when it is time to vote again in 2017. There is more to come from this mass exodus and open door policy into Europe too "mark my words" and I will remind you.

  9. I could not agree more, Angela Merkel is not looking so smug now. :Blushing_32: I knew this would happen, all too quick to let so called refugees into Europe without any form of ID in many cases!! More to come I fear.

It is clear now that one of the terrorists came through Greece with other refugees from Syria, so how many more came through?

  10. My buddy lives in Bristol and over there they have trays for glass, paper as well as a recycling bin, so you actually have to sort what is being recycled too. I am sure this will come here too if less people take the initiative to recycle, I believe it is our duty to care for the environment as much as we can. I do not have 2 bins in my house because I do not have the room either, we just swill anything that is to be recycled and take it out to the green bin, no real issue for us.

  11. An interesting few days!

I must say, I was intrigued when this thread first made an appearance. Intrigued, but not in the slightest bit concerned, as my conscience is clear.(So I slept incredibly well!)

However, as events unfolded, and my posting name was thrown into the mix....I was baffled as to what on earth could have caused this. I have never even been able to post a handy link.... let alone have the technical know how to create multiple accounts!

As I said to Colin, in one of several emails at this point in proceedings, the integrity of my online persona is extremely important to me, because it accurately reflects and represents me. Love me or loathe me, this is who I am. I was more than happy for Colin to access any area of my account he liked....I had nothing to hide!

Just to clarify, Dippy is the only posting name I have ever used - here or HT - and I 100% stand by every word I have ever tapped upon this keyboard!

Finally, but most importantly, I'd like to thank Grid Knocker, Two Wheels and especially my dear friend Bobby. Your kind words in my defence were appreciated more than you will ever know. I'm so glad you had such faith in your blogging buddy, and knew that the honest character you know as Dippy, would never deceive in this fashion.

Drinks at The Commercial are most definitely on me, next meet up.

Nice response dippy and I am pleased to see you, I don't believe your good name was ever in doubt it was more about your account among others is how I read it anyway. Glad I don't have the job of the admin but fairplay he cleared your good name when he explained that your account was clear and you were 100% genuine.

  12. Only went there once, food was very poor and they charged over £3 for a glass of fizzy orange so i am not surprised they are closing so soon.

How much!! I heard it was expensive but £3 for a glass of sugar water is way over the top. I am not into bbq taste so it would not of appealed to me to be honest but if those prices are anything to go by then it is no wonder they are closing.

  13. This 59.5% of votes is a staggeringly large margin of victory and Corbyn now has a total Mandate to put forward his ultra left wing policies. Which includes paying for most extra things by ringing up the Bank of England and telling them to simply print more cash.

It's quite clear that there is now a total disconnect between what grass root Labour people want and what Parliamentary Labour MP's think. A huge number of them are centre left (or Tory-Lite).

In fact within a few minutes of him winning Yvette Cooper, Chuka Umunna, Rachel Reeves, Tristram Hunt, Emma Reynolds, Jamie Reed and Liz Kendall all resigned from the Shadow Front Bench.

Yes it was quite an exodus, that speaks volumes. He is far too left wing for me and the party too, time will tell its all early day at the moment, let the honeymoon dwindle and see how the part manage over the next year or so.
