  1. Point taken.

I'm sure nobody will mind the next time there is a serious incident/RTA/medical emergency/fire.....that response times are a little slower, whilst suitable parking spaces were found!

(Blue lights aren't always on..... particularly during the day when the vehicle is stationary!)

As stated, we don't know the circumstances.... so can we not just give them the benefit of the doubt?

If there were a serious RTA the road is usually blocked anyway. We would all agree that the emergency services do a brilliant thankless job but the point here is one rule for one? I am positive is this were John Harrington parking his van to do a quick drop off he would come back to a few points and fines...

  2. It will be interesting to see how the figures stack up, when the work is completed.

In October 2015, the HT reported that The Services For Independent Living - SIL - was going to be incorporated into the existing library in Broad Street. The cost given, £145 thousand pounds.

Thirty thousand pounds was to come from the council's Economy, Community and Corporate Directorate, and one hundred and fifteen thousand pounds from Adults Wellbeing, contained within the council's approved capitol programme.

Removal of the asbestos has now been quoted as £86 thousand pounds..

So why does the figure of one million pounds keep being raised?

Is this yet another case of "council maths" at work?

If some assistance is required with the adding up.... let me help. 86000 plus 145,000 equals 231,000.

    Quite a significant difference!

I agree, where is the magic £million pound figure coming from? That is a huge amount of money.

  3. Coming out of St. Martins Street onto the Asda roundabout at peak times is a VERY long wait and then the road ahead is blocked as there is no yellow box ~ road is clogged by southbound A49 stuff. I nearly got taken out there a few weeks ago trying to exit to go to Asda.

I don't subscribe to the campaign for 'all lights out' at all times as I think this needs proper investigation.

    One word - Roundabout

  4. Yes the tenants got a grant from the government not as an insentive to move but because technically they were being made homeless by their flats being demolished, not everyone got the same amount, and Frank if you have lived on Newton Farm all your life you know as well as I do the problems on the estate. The young lady in question used to live in the flats that been demolished so they had first offer for the new houses, not all the tenants stayed some of them moved away, considering their were 194 flata and only 130 of the new properties  were for the tenants, some had no choice but to move away, and those did not have new houses, some live elsewhere on Newton Farm in the cornish 2 story flats. As for the Vortex I used to help out there with the teenagers so like you I am entitled to comment as well!

Slim with respect you do not know the circumstances she has been living under, you tell me where anyone can get a full time job these days, and even if she could she probably would not earn enough for nursery fees.

Sorry Glenda but I agree with Slim, she should get a full time job, some people seem to think because they have children that they can no longer work! Both my parents worked. I do not believe that there are no jobs either, there is work if people look! Thousands have people have come here from within the EU over the past 5 years or more and 99% managed to find jobs yet apparently lazy British people cannot, sorry but I don't buy into that. Thy have moved her from the old vile flats and into a new house and she has the cheek to complain and put it in the local paper too, personally, I would evict her and put her back in the flats but the ones at River View, see what she thinks of that, ungrateful woman!

  5. I was reading this comment on the HT website with regard to this tenant.

A single mother complaining.about having a free house..

Works part time as a hairdresser..
So basically subsidised by real tax payers and still complaining...
Oh look my garden isnt flat..Big deal..
At least you have some outside area for your kid to run round in..
Some people need a reality check..

Furthermore, why have the HT started the article with the words a single mum? What has that got to do with anything, they could of just said a tenant.

  6. I see it has all kicked off again this morning. One female suicide bomber has blown herself up and there are reports that other people have died. Perhaps Jeremy Corbin should fly out and see if he can sit down with these terrorists over a coffee in order to avoid anymore bloodshed.

  7. I hold the view that the the whole of the EU should close it's borders and border patrols put back in place. I would have absolutely no problem with that but I think too many people have been allowed into the EU without being checked. I am pleased that the UK were never part of the Schengen.

  8. I cannot stand the man and it would be a disaster for the UK if he were ever to become PM. The bloke lives in cuckoo land and must be a terrorists dream leader.

Jeremy Corbyn is a danger to the national security of the UK. I truly believe that he thinks he can sit down with these nutters and have a chat. Having just read this article the PM is 100% bang on.

A succession of Labour MPs raised concerns about the Labour leader’s remarks in the House of Commons. Chris Leslie, the former shadow chancellor, said: “The prime minister is right that the police and the security services need our full support at this time. But shouldn’t it be immediately obvious to everyone – to everyone – that the police need the full and necessary powers, including the proportionate use of lethal force if needs be, to keep our communities safe?â€

David Cameron said: “I hope that the leader of the opposition will review his remarks because, frankly, when you are combating a terrorist attack and if you look at what happened in Paris, it was an attack, it wasn’t a siege, it wasn’t taking hostages and setting out demands, it was an attempt to kill as many people as possible. When the police are confronted by that they must be absolutely clear that if they have to take out a terrorist to save lives they should go right ahead and do so.â€

  9. Keepmoat & Contractors will be digging up the highways around the Oval (shop circle) over the next few days/weeks. This is to install new services to cooperate with the existing ones. This will cause obvious disruptions around that area. Certain areas will be closed off completely during scheduled works. Restricted access in places. Please use alternative routes as necessary.

The main disruptions will be the school run as Goodrich grove recieves more thoroughfare, could I ask Drivers using the A465 to be a little more considerate and allow a vehicle or two to exit in front at Goodrich grove? I also know that traffic volume on westholme rd will also increase. Please do keep the Tesco roundabout clear. Thanks.

This may also be the time to recampaign to switch off the traffic lights, to elevate the volume.

Turning off the light so far has fallen upon deaf ears even though it is a no brainer. Thanks for the head up  :Winky:

  10. This is one of the reason why a friend of mine still get letters now and again via the London congestion charge zone. Number plate recognition is not as perfect as we are led to believe.

Considering the thousands of cars that enter our capitols congestion zone I think it does remarkably well. Bare in mind a lot of cars will be dirty and have all sorts of stuff possibly covering the number plates particularly this time of year with all the leaves.
