I live in a cul-de-sac so maybe I am blinkered but we live in a World of convenience which includes wheelie bins, good or bad they are here and here to stay, while i did not appreciate the problems you are saying exist in Whitecross etc I am slightly confused as to the difference between 4-5 black bins bags, half of which would be open because of birds to a solid wheelie bin. Surely loads of all size and shaped black bags would cause a bigger problem to the visually impaired?? I still don't agree with laying blame with the bin men. There is no quick fix here, however, I think putting the wheelie bins on the road up next to the kerb has to be a better place than actually on the path for those people who do not have gardens.
I agree with alex, what is the difference whether there are blacks bags or bins? Bags poise a bigger problem in many ways compared to bins.
I think these obstructions are worse!

I usually nip in here for a pint on my way home when I am on 6am-2pm shift, sad news indeed for Hereford.
-
You do not hear of non Muslims going into Mosques and randomly killing people but I think it may come, sadly. Some of these fanatics must be brain washed, they really must be.
-
Well I prefer Indian food, however, I think having at least some sort of choice just has to be better than having no choice, like we have right now.
I am with you on this Colin. Hereford offers NOTHING for people on a night out wanting a late night bite, at least this will now open the door hopefully, to be honest when you have the munchies after a night out, personally, I could not care less if its McDonalds, Indian, Chinese or a Kebab..

Happy days!!!!!!! There is nothing worse and I mean nothing worse than not being able to grab a curry on your way home after a good night out, I remeber the days when you could get a curry at 4am from Ip Sisters

A Rotherwas station is a must in my opinion. There was a station there years ago re open that line if possible.

Ignore the criticism, I cannot believe someone actually complained but hey ho. Some really neat arial shots, which you don't see everyday even if they are not in PERFECT focus.

Nothing better than a good really heated debate but this one, through no fault of HV got a little out of hand. A difficult decision for the admin but I think the right one was made. Excellent administration by Colin.

It's all a con, the place has not even been open 6 months! So these shops have not given it a full year yet, secondly, I was still charged full price for the car park the other night when I was there, so where is the reduction in parking fee's if half the shops are not open??

Some really neat history here.

Im really sorry - but treating these two junctions as roundabouts at night does not need any new road layout.
I would perhaps make it a little later in the evening - maybe from 10pm - but really its common sense.
No lights needed there - I too have been in Asdas late at night and sat at the red light for ages for NOT ONE CAR to go past.
Changing road layouts would make no difference at all.
I agree, maybe a few new signs showing part time times - 7pm-7am or something along those lines. There is no special layout in Gloucester, in general, it's been proven than when the lights are out people actually slow down out of caution.
-
Reduce the speed to 20mph which is faster than at present along Belmont Road and increase the area the public use to cross the road and hatch it like the box junctions. If motorists can't stop they are going too fast.
If you reduce the speed limit to 30mph some people will still drive at 30mph. There are less pedestrians during the night but I still think that making the lights part time and treating these junctions as roundabouts again is a good idea. I works fine in Gloucester!
-
Side roads, Will this go on forever? The crossings marked are over the A49, A465, A438. What do you propose to do about the inconvient truth that these crossings are here? Close them?
You have marked Eign St for a start? Leave these lights alone, from my understanding it's just the main junctions that is being proposed to become part time, thus allowing traffic at night to continue along the ring road. In other words treat these 2 junctions as roundabouts at night. The times I have been sat at the traffic lights at 2am when there has been no traffic is a joke! I drove out of Asda early hours this morning and wanted to go straight over and along the Ross road, I was sat there for ages, not a car in site or a pedestrian for that matter.

It's not discrimination - if MR Singh and MR chips want to stay open later they could right now by serving cold food.
I think the term discrimination is the wrong word to use here
Well he would like to serve cold food, just tell him not to heat it up but this is a pi*% take on behalf of the local council in my opinion. Red tape and lots of it!
Like a previous member has said, Jim Mooney and his colleagues need to get into the 21st century, no wonder people choose to go to other towns, how crap for the young people who go out in Hereford and have been working hard all week. But it's okay to go and have a hot pasty from the garage, in my book, thats discrimination!

Marked with red lines are pedestrian crossings integrated with the traffic lights, Marked with green lines are the pedestrains crossing that could possibly be programmed to work independantly.
We would like both the Highways Agency and Herefordshire Council to allow the traffic lights at the junctionswhere the A465 meets the A49 (Asda roundabout/junction) andwhere the A49 meets the A438 Newmarket St (Old Market roundabout/junction)to become part-time signals during non peak times from 7pm-7amwith exception to the pedestrian crossings which would still be in operation for the safety of pedestrians. No point looking at all the side roads that you have indicated in your image Jonny, the discussions are ONLY about the junctions mentioned above and in the original opening post. The Asda junction has independent pedestrian lights (there is also another independent pedestrian crossing 30 metres along opposite the roundabout stores) and so does the Edgar St junction.
-
Duh!!
I suggest that you go check it out and read the whole topic! These 2 sets being discussed here have independent pedestrian lights which a separate to the main scoot lights!
Correct
-
How do you propose to turn off the traffic lights but keep them on for pedestrans, the pedi crossings are integrated into the sequencing of the traffic signals, you can't just turn all the lights back on when a pedi comes along, the traffic will not be expecting it.
It seems most of the traffic lights in hereford are there for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists and are not there for the benefit of mostorists, you are after all encased in steel and therefore less vulnerable than the other road users. I'm still hoping if the traffic gets bad enough more people will walk cycle or bus, maybe thats the councils cunning plan!
Please don't be so narrow minded, of course the pedestrian lights would stay on, can't believe you actually thought that nobody had thought about that and we were all considering turning them off

I don't think using a double drive scenario is quite the same in fairness, the landlords clearly earn their revenue from the permits during office hours, so a small sensible fee for the evening and weekends I would be in favour of and get rid of the parking management company altogether, either that or put a gate up, the original hinges are still there so it would not take a lot to implement if they are that worried about people parking there out of office hours.Where has all the local generosity gone these days? Why not offer free parking and encourage people to use the local estate agents and shops that have permits here, the permits are not limited to just the surrounding offices.
I notice that some supermarkets are now using these idiots too, Morrison's in Hereford is a joke! We called in there yesterday and did some shopping, we got to the check out and was asked if we had parked in the car park, which we had done, she then asked for my ticket to nullify, I told her that we had no ticket and was not aware that we had to get one and where do we get them? She told me to go out and put a pound coin in the machine then come back and she would give me the pound back? What the heck is all that about? Put me off shopping in Morrison's to be honest, what a rigmarole.
100% agree

Without sinking to the depths of further fishy puns, isn't this another example of the Hereford Voice discussions provoking activity by 'officialdom'? First we had questions about Baptist Church Drinkers - we got Op Castlemain. Then we had questions about the purveyors of duty free contraband cigarettes - we got this. The 'No Hot Food at Night' got some reasoned and informed explanation from poster(s) and consequential new applications for Late Night Refreshment application(s) etc. The issue is not (a backslapping) whether Hereford Voice 'steals a march' on the Hereford Times, but whether well-argued issues on this forum get the attention they deserve...
Well just to provoke things a little more, I have a friend who works in this store, without a contract and he pays his staff £4 per hour! And guess what, he still has dodgy cigarettes there after the court case and you can take that to the bank!
-
It appears that Herefordshire Council have plenty of money what with this recent £90k per annum job and now these two jobs, almost £200,000 in wages for just 3 people!

What I find frustrating is that the government soon find a few million pound to send in aid to foreign lands and the click of the finger, lets start looking after our own country!!!
-
It is obvious that you as others here are members of the Jim Kenyon and IOC appreciation society, but I know and see a very different side of him!!!
I'm sure we could say that about a lot of Cllr's but as a professional I think your comments are out of order.

The new times of opening at the Oval post office has been in operation for last three months.
Well I for one did not know until I read this post so grateful for the details. Westfields is open late, Oval come nowhere near with their opening times, fair play to the Westfields post office, I am sure that will be handy for me especially as I work long shifts and use eBay.

Bill's reply to you is fair and to the point. I agree with Bill, far too many demands for 'apologises and thanks' required on your part and suggesting that their organisation would be responsible for any death is quite ludicrous. If I received this letter I think I would be very tempted to make a paper aeroplane with it to be frank. Your intentions I am sure are very sincere but your whole approach and demeanor are the opposite.
