I have just read that the former Paperway shop in Widemarsh St could soon become a Shellfish Restaurant & Bar, that's different.

Hereford Times Quote:

Applicant Lauren Waring says the venue would help footfall in the 'old' city centre, create jobs for those in the county and fill an empty unit.

In a document sent to planners with the application, Miss Waring said the business's ethos would be on "fine and affordable dining".

The cafe part of the business would sell the likes of homemade pastries, "high quality breakfasts" plus speciality teas and coffees.

The restaurant would specialise in shell fish with Hereford beef also on offer.

As a committed foodie, epicurean, gastronome and plain glutton, I welcome the idea of a seafood/shellfish restaurant. Okay, Miss Waring says that she will also be selling other things like breakfast, beef and pastries.  Fine. I love Kippers for breakfast with a good Earl Grey tea. Lobster and Prawns in a velloutte sauce with a Puff Pastry top is a nice lunch,(with a cold Graves), and nothing could be nicer than Hereford rare sliced beef with mussels and clams in a warm white sauce with white truffle served in a decent sized Yorkshire Pudding for dinner. BTW, I am available for recipe ideas and tastings.

While it is good that another empty shop will be in use, it is more of the same that is already in Hereford, ok so it is Shellfish and seafood, but still another restaurant.

To be honest, Hereford is very boring and dull, and have been for many years,

I seriously don't know why you bother posting Adrian, all doom n gloom with you.

Not all doom and gloom, but sadly that is what Hereford is these days, come to think of it, it have been like it for years now.

I used to love Hereford, we had some interesting and good shops in the past, now it just have become any town.  We have a council that seems to waste money and listen to no one, and put people out of work for their precious projects.

Hereford also have been snobbish, but I thought with more people coming here that would change, yet it have got worse, not better.

Sure we now have a multi million pound shopping centre, but there is nothing different there, so much more could have been done with that place. Yes we have a got a better cinema and we needed that I must admit, not sure if we really required one that is so large. I have not been in there yet, but from what I have heard from other people they have gone in to watch a film and there have been half a dozen  others watching if that.

This multi million pound centre do not even have a cash machine, and it seems like it keeps falling apart,.

The city centre is to be honest right mess and I really do not think the council cares, they say they do and tell us what they are going to do, but I really think it is too late. It is nice that some new shops have opened or are opening.

There is very little to get people to come to Hereford, if you lived outside Hereford, say halfway between Worcester and Hereford, what would entice you to come here? i know a few people who lives outside and yet they rather go a few extra mile to Worcester or other places to do their shopping.

We have some stalls on a field selling a few things and people get excited about it, and yet other towns, even ones that are small than us have things that are better.

I wish now that I had moved out of Hereford years ago, would things have been better? I have no idea, but I would have liked to try. Too late now due to age and health.

We will see what happens with High Town when/if they start work ok it, I haver lived here long enough to remember what it used to be like. I know things have to move on, but they are not always for the better.

Planning is one side of the application. Licensing is the other. The venue is within the council CIZ, the police will support applications within the CIZ if all the 'i's' are dotted and the 't's' are crossed. The 28 day consultation period has started and until this ends the true position on who has what view won't be known. So watch this space....
