  1. Well that will cause problems.People won't park in car parks around the City, they will jam up the streets for two hours whilst most people

that park on the streets to do errands etc will be stuffed.

I don't agree, have a wonder down Castle St or Bridge St now and its usually pretty dead, I have no real problem paying a £1 to park but half hour is no good to anyone.

  2. I haven't got an agenda. All I have is an abundance of common sense and a willingness to share it with you all. Would it be a safe and wise parenting decision to get the children onto their pedal cycles and journey across the Wye bridge, around Tesco Island and back again and remain on the roads?

If the answers 'No', and it should be, then it follows that riding on the footpath is a sensible and understandable decision given the poor infra structure we in the City enjoy.

    Just to address your comments booby47 about children on pedal cycles;

Children under the age of 10 are below the age of criminal responsibility. Therefore, they cannot be prosecuted for a criminal offence. They cannot be issued with a fixed penalty notice either as they cannot be given to anyone under the age of 16.

This means that, whilst police officers can theoretically stop young children (aged under 10) who are cycling on pavements, they have no powers to arrest, fine or even caution them. This is sensible, as young children should not be expected to cycle on the road.

There are very few locations within our City that can accomadate people, cyclists and vehicular traffic and so I feel it's for the best that cyclists use footpaths to maintain their own safety.

So sod everyone else on the footpath then.

Shared space is one thing but footpaths that are barely wide enough for pedestrians is a big no no for cyclists, the law is the law how long before people on mopeds have the same outlook?

  4. there are also a lot of fair, respectful, thoughtful and downright scared people on bicycles that are bullied off the roads in some places in Hereford.

The fault does not solely lie with the person on the bicycle.

Just to address the last part of your previous comment above.

You could argue that there are also a lot of fair, respectful, thoughtful and downright scared people in cars that feel bullied by much bigger vehicles, such as lorries, buses, vans and even larger cars. My wife is terrified of driving on busy roads and dual carriageways in her little car and will only drive on a motorway if absolutely essential. Her view, which I share is that the police and authorities need to tighten up on ALL ROAD USERS and make it a safer place for all. If you were seen be a copper riding on a footpath then would pull over and instruct you to get off your bike and walk, these days they just drive past, which in my view is encouraging even more! This was never really an issue growing up, yes granted there are more vehicles on the roads these days but equally there are also more cyclists, the answer is NOT riding cycles on footpaths, that is just down right selfish with absolutely no consideration for pedestrians or pets.

I think what I find annoying about cyclists is many claim to be victims and will wear head cams to catch out the odd motorists when in reality they are often not much better, it is all about me me me.

If a 12 year old could cycle safely around Hereford many of you may find there would be alot less cyclists using the pavements as they would feel safe to cycle on the roads. I am not excusing their behaviour, but sometimes it takes a lot of nerve to cycle down the Belmont road or over Greyfriars bridge, when there is a pavement which the majority of the time has no pedestrians on.

As I have said previously, Herefordshire Council are designing all new cycle routes so that pedestrians and cyclists are expected to share the same space. Many bits around Hereford are unconnected so that people like me are expected to cycle partway on the pavement, then into the road (quite a dangerous manoeuvre by the Newtown Rd/Grandstand Rd roundabout) and then back on the pavement. The worst cycle route is on the way to Credenhill which if you cycle out of the city requires you to criss/cross from cycle path across the road onto the main road.I usually just trundle along the road and avoid the cycle path as it is too dangerous to get on and off!

The new City Link road when it opens apparently has no segregated and protected cycle paths, instead cyclists and pedestrians will be expected to share the pavement as the cars and lorries need the other lanes. Expect more cyclists on the pavements if this is what is being proposed by the Council on a brand new £27million road.

While I understand concerns, it was never really an issue for us growing up, I can understand cyclists feeling safer riding on footpaths but try asking the same question to the pedestrians about cyclists on footpaths! It is against the law to ride cycle on many footpaths simple! I would feel a lot safer driving my car along the hard shoulder of the motorway rather than have to be in the same lane as a huge lorry or bus in my little car but I can't can I.

I think ALL cyclists should have a test similar to that of motorcycles and give people some education.

The council offer free courses which Ubique posted above.

Today's early morning criminal, this one is brilliant because this cheeky cyclist is even wearing a headcam to catch out other bad road users.

    Can anyone justify this manoeuvre?

OMG, what a complete knob!! I am now starting to understand why the statistics show so many cyclists getting injured or killed by other motorists.

  7. Another terrorist attack in Europe today, this time in Barcelona.

Some nutter in a van mowing down innocent people and tourists on Las Ramblers in the heart of the city. Reports are that at least 13 people have died and another 50 or more are injured.

A white van mounted the pavement of Las Ramblas, the main tourist area in the city, and struck several people, police said.

It came to a halt at the entrance to the Liceu metro station and the occupants escaped and ran off into the streets nearby, according to one newspaper

Man who 'deliberately' ploughed BMW into French soldiers arrested

A man is shot and detained by police after a car is driven at troops in what officials condemn as "an odious act of aggression".

Police have shot and arrested a man after he rammed his BMW into a group of French soldiers in western Paris before speeding off.

  10. A terror investigation has been launched in Paris after a man with a blade tried to force his way into the Eiffel Tower.

A judicial official said a man holding a knife shouted "Allahu akbar" - the Arabic phrase for "God is great" - and tried to access a secure zone during Saturday night's incident.

The suspect told police he wanted to attack a solider and had been in contact with an Islamic State jihadist, the AFP news agency reported.

He quickly surrendered when he was surrounded by security forces. The tower was briefly evacuated but there were no injuries.

The knifeman was wearing a Paris Saint-Germain shirt and at the time of the alert the tower was lit up with the team's colours.

A security source said the suspect had been in a psychiatric hospital for several months and was granted temporary permission to leave care from 4-6 August.

Eiffel Tower reopened to tourists as usual on Sunday morning.

Paris remains on alert following a series of attacks since 2015.

  11. Hardly all guns blazing, I merely posted a link, you came up with that conclusion all on your own.

So not a terrorist attack then..

When is planting explosives on a public road with a sole purpose to kill or injure not a terrorists attack?

Anyway, the link I posted was about a knife attack in supermarket if you read it.

Yes I noticed that, the link you posted was to a knife attack, the other attack was totally seperate. So this is yet another attack
