  1. With respect, I think you need to get out a bit more. Have a look at some of the photo's already added within this thread, it works in other cities and Hereford is no different, I think you are just putting up obstacles, this is just another option that could of been used. A bridge would of been privately funded too so do not worry yourself about the costs.

I had the exact same thoughts. It's no big deal and it clearly would of worked but hey ho  :Hmm:

  2. Completely agree Biomech.

What we have is heritage - we have a duty to protect it.

Otherwise, you could say well what's the point of the up keep of the Cathedral?? Or the Black and White trail?? Or the Black and White House??

These beautiful buildings are one of the reason tourists come to Hereford. I do think it should be easier to make improvements to Listed Buildings, but they need to be saved/protected for future generations.

I appreciate that of course we need to embrace our heritage but some buildings are almost beyond economical repair and no company in their right minds will sign up to a 5 year + all repair lease, it's alright you all harping on about keeping the character and heritage but these companies do not want the hassle and no small business is ever going to want one of these listed buildings, hence, why we have so many empty shops!!!! Hellooooo

  4. Yes, I am all for shared space but you get wet when it rains etc a footbridge would come out of the 2nd level, Debenhams or something, most places have these coming from the 2nd floor which these days always has disabled access across into the top floor of Tesco (and yes there is one) or directly into Maylords and this is fraction of the distance they have at Cabot Circus

I totally get this, it's about making your shopping experience attractive to come to Hereford and right now the most attractive part is leaving Hereford. By the time people have managed negotiate the terrible traffic and then manage to find a parking space (because for some reason this administration seems to think that 65-70% of people in Hereford are disabled by the amount of parking bays allocated) a lot of people are fed up and frustrated and all they want to do is get their shopping done as quickly as possible in an attempt to avoid the traffic in order to get back home.

  5. I think the name needs to focus on traffic lights out being the main objective together with shared space somehow. I have a few suggestions;

    Fluid Hereford

Traffic Lights Out (keeping it simple)

    Give Up The Stop

    Just my two pence worth.

Great campaign and it is fantastic to have Martin Cassini involved, I have been reading up on the various successful campaigns with great interest. Some strong local campaigners named here so keep up the fight people!

  6. Depends where you live, obvs, but I live near the blind college so when I go to Sainsbury's I go down College Rd, down the railway bridge and right past Tudor's, past Pizza Hut, on down Edgar St and then into the new 3rd lane, no problems for me. Before the new third lane opened and the lights were out and it was gridlocked, I did try going down Grandstand Rd etc to Sainsbury's but incredibly, the traffic was even slower that way.

The reason the 3rd lane was gridlocked when they first opened the new lane was because they had temp traffic lights in place and on top of this they were totally out of sequence, hence the gridlock, northbound traffic flowed ok because at that time there were no lights in that direction, there is a real simple solution to this lot and hopefully the new lights out group may get a trial traffic lights out because I think it has been proved over and over again that its much better with no lights, this is the case in several cities and other studies.

  7. No Colin, this is no joke! These are serious people. When they say, ' to ensure we enjoy it' they really mean it. If they think it, say it, it's printed and we've read it, to them, that are in a different place to you and I, it becomes their truth and their mantra.

These people are passionately driven to deliver a robustly positive outcome for their service users and they'll not be diverted from this corporate mission statement and the unquenchable desire to to provide value for money, save us millions and provide us a thousand jobs, for any reason at all.

Here's my personal pledge to you my dear friend and colleague Colin. There's more chance of my breasts beginning to lactate milk than there ever is of 'them' switching off the lights and doing as you suggest. It ain't going to happen Colin. Oh, they'll meet you, they'll even provide a steering group to look at your suggestion, but when shove comes to push, they'll simply fob you off with a. 'Lets review this again in six months', giving you the golden opportunity to sit at the table again and repeat the pointless process in trying to communicate with these people.

Whatsmore, you've more chance of communicating with the former Mayor, Great Uncle bloody Albert Farr via a highly expensive Medium than you have in getting this bunch to think outside the box and respond to your request. It ain't going to happen Colin. Oh, there'll be times when you treck home, stagger through the front door and shout to your loved ones, 'I think Im getting somewhere', but you ain't Colin. They'll simply be giving you a little sugar to sate your taste buds in the hope you'll come back again, and again, and again to discuss the issue and the bundle of papers that you've helped create that now need a vast storage room to store these documents generated by you and this bureaucratic monster we call our Council.

    God help you Colin.

bobby could be right but in my experience I would stick with it, don't give up because a tremendous amount of local people are behind you with this campaign Mr James, even if you got the lights reduced to part-time it would be a result.

  8. I agree with Colin 100%, lived in Redhill all my life and traffic is definitely smoother flowing when there were no traffic lights, where Ross Road meet Belmont Road is a bottle neck but nothing like it is nowadays. So lights out for me too  :Happy_32:

I am with you. Colin has a valid point, turning off the traffic lights I think would work but it has to be worth trying it, I like his idea's of the traffic lights being part time too, they do not need to be on after 7pm any day of the week.

Hi folks I agree with Colin and I got fed up with those pointless lights and the huge traffic que's so I organised this meeting with the council officer incharge of highways and the cabinet member CLLR Phillip price I also contact a friend at Amey who still look after the A49 I was told by him that those temporary lights were put on so that the buses could get out off tesco's "wtf" the perminant lights will be in place by Thursday next week I argued we have nothing to lose as the traffic can't get any worse westbound on the 49 and Newmarket street so they have agreed to ask the highways agency to give this a trial and see if the good folk of Hereford can use a roundabout as they were designed for after all the rest of the uk can so fingers crossed some common sense may prevail.

Also at that meeting they agreed to include city ward councillors when they plan to shut Newmarket street in January and listen to our thoughts and ideas.

Well done Jim and I agree with dippyhippy for Colin's constant determination and enthusiasm to get the traffic lights on the ring road including the Asda junction turned off. I cannot believe that this put the temp lights there for the buses coming out of Tesco  :Hmm:  Well lets hope now that they actually do it.
