  1. Morrisons car park is fairly full most of the time when the shop is not ... Probably a mixture of shoppers/people taking the p!ss ... I don't overstay the 2 hours ever ... I don't need to ... But that car park gets really busy ...

There is a brand new car park on the old Rockfield site, which in fairness is not expensive, personally, I think Morrison's have cocked up, I have heard quite a few people complain since this new policy of theirs was implemented. They used to have a guy sat in a booth when they first opened that was at least a better option, so may people will get caught out here simply because they don't know that they have to purchase a ticket, you are relying on the cashier to ask you, which apparently is down to the cashier.

Your Morrisson's ordeal sounds ridiculous (on their part). I'm considerate when I park but if a private carpark (Tesco etc) is full apart from a parent and child space - I'll park in it. Likewise, if I have a broken leg, I'll park in a disabled without a badge.

I agree with you on the above.

  2. I don't think using a double drive scenario is quite the same in fairness, the landlords clearly earn their revenue from the permits during office hours, so a small sensible fee for the evening and weekends I would be in favour of and get rid of the parking management company altogether, either that or put a gate up, the original hinges are still there so it would not take a lot to implement if they are that worried about people parking there out of office hours.Where has all the local generosity gone these days? Why not offer free parking and encourage people to use the local estate agents and shops that have permits here, the permits are not limited to just the surrounding offices.

I notice that some supermarkets are now using these idiots too, Morrison's in Hereford is a joke! We called in there yesterday and did some shopping, we got to the check out and was asked if we had parked in the car park, which we had done, she then asked for my ticket to nullify, I told her that we had no ticket and was not aware that we had to get one and where do we get them? She told me to go out and put a pound coin in the machine then come back and she would give me the pound back? What the heck is all that about? Put me off shopping in Morrison's to be honest, what a rigmarole.  :Thumbs-Down:

I am in agreement with your comments Bill and I stopped using Morrison's as soon as they implemented this policy.

  3. Wow....that's amazing Councillor Powell because I have already started helping a couple with their Housing Benefit because they are not getting what they are entitled to....and they live in the Newton Farm Area too

Are they the couple I told you about Councillor Powell?

Oh no here we go again...

  4. ha ha mind you I think the council are being pretty optimistic with those numbers. Lets hope and pray that the traffic lights fail then for all our sakes or it will be pandemonium, which may in the long run be a blessing...

No way will there be 20,000 visitors today, dreaming I think, mind you, I am currently sat in a very long traffic jam south of Hereford and it feels like there are 20,000 cars right now, its a nightmare, should get to the city centre sometime this morning, hopefully

  5. I think you misread my post. Maccies in Commercial STREET

    Late Licence Refused

I'm no expert on planning but the Palace obviously operated as a food establishment before it went to the wall so maybe the existing use means it can just re-open as a takeaway even if it is larger as they are building an extension to it? Any planning experts out there?

Rather like The Gamecock could transform from a pub to a shop. Or indeed The Buckingham. Without having to get additional permission for change of use.

The Palace did not go to the wall the owner of the building wanted it back and refused to give them a new lease.

  6. Website loads fine for me too no problems here, sometimes it slows down a little in the evening but a lot of websites do in fairness due to higher volumes of users but in the main i find the site as fast as any other.  :Cool_32:  I use Internet Explorer but will have a look at these others, I was unaware there was such a choice available.

  7. Colin, can I explain so that everyone will know where I am coming from- 11 years ago the people of the Belmont (Belmont Newton  Farm and Hunderton) ward elected me as their councillor, and I have been priviledged to of been re-elected by my constituents again in 2007 and 2011. As a councillor we have to sign forms of confidentiality for public office if we refuse to sign we cannot be a councillor, one of which is the tenants data protection act In that role when working for our constituents we have to:-

    1. work with all trained council officers that can help with whatever the resident is asking help for.

    2. If that is complaints with their landlords, we take the matter up with them.

    3. If the matter is homelessness we work with the homeless team and benefit office.

    4. There is also a team of officers to help residents who are homeowners.

In other words we can only work with recognised social landlords or fully constituted residents associations who are registered with the charity commission, Parish councils or in the case of Newton Farm and Hunderton it is the Hereford city council, as you can see my workload can be and is heavy.

I have tried to explain to Mr Smart that I am unable to get involved with his "tenants voice" because it is neither a legally registered residents association with the charity commission or constituted. In regard to tenant matters or complaints if the tenant has asked for my help which the tenant in question did (I have her email) I set the wheels in motion and she had a visit from HHL officers on 4th March 2014 and the matter is being rectified, materials have been ordered and when they arrive the work will be carried out. I can understand residents often get frustrated because it seems as though nothing is being done, this is where they can then come back to their councillor who is able to ask questions and put pressure on the landlords.

As already been stated there is already a fully constituted "tenant Voice" which would be legally recognised to represent tenants, also again I agree the name tenant voice  is to close to Hereford Voice  and confusion could set in. While I can see what Mr Smart is trying to do for tenants, but as things stands the authorities may not be willing to work with him, simply because they would just see him as a "tenant" of a registered social landlord therefore should not be taking up complaints however well intensioned on behalf of other tenants. That is between the tenant who has a complaint and their social landlord or they can and do contact the councillor(s) in the area they live in for their help.

While I appreciate what you are saying, I still think yo are using this as your excuse to avoid working with smartieno1, I also appreciate that you are the elected councillor but it seems to me that you want to run this on your own in order to claim any credit at the end. I know this may sound harsh and I know that you work tirelessly for the community but offered help from another person you cannot undervalue!! Bottom line here is you either want to work together or you are refusing, with regard to local authorities not wanting to work with non elected parties that's a load rubbish in my experience because all that will do is get them bad press which they will attempt to avoid at all costs but if this is the case then work with smatieno1 and you just echo what he wants through your councilor channels, if you want it to work, it will.

  8. I have offered smartieno1 (Phil) the facility of my forum for the use of the tenants if is makes it easier for him and everyone, however, I can see it could become confusing with such a similar name as Tenants Voice, I never really thought about it until it was pointed out to me but it could become confusing indeed, so I would prefer a name change to something like Tenants Forum, Tenants View, Tenants Channel, Tenants Say, there are plenty of other alternatives but at the end of the day, I cannot demand a change in name that can only be smartieno1's decision but it may look like we are associated and we are not, so I can appreciate what others have said and after reading H.Wilson's last post there are other associations already using that name, maybe smartieno1 is unaware of?

To be honest, I was under the impression that it was called 'Tenants Association' and just to clarify see our Facebook communication below:

Regarding communication, dippyhippy is 100% correct, keep the communication doors open otherwise you will just end up fighting against each other (which is what is starting to happen now) when the end goal to 'look after the tenants needs' is the same, this is not about ego's or gaining brownie points over each other as someone has already suggested, you will be stronger working together, you may not always agree but you will be a stronger force for sure.

    Ditto, work together!

  9. Ranelagh Street ~ Liverpool City Centre. There's about 15 pubs within about 100 yards of it. The Council are realistic and it's open around the clock. No issues at all.

I don't agree. Public moaning on here, or facebook, or Twitter very often gets a result. I've put pictures of potholes on the web and then strangely they get fixed. Not brilliantly but something gets done.

I've also moaned at a certain Educational establishment on Twitter about litter. Next day there was a litter pick arranged for the affected area.

Also the moans on here about the Bath Street Offices have generated interest from the Council.

If this barmy 130 am food rule is bumped into the public eye often enough then it will come under further scrutiny.

I tend to agree with you Roger, I have seen several discussions on here turn into actions being implemented, this website and things like social media play a big role these days and should not be ignored.

  10. I think Cllr Nick Nenaditch is one...

Route of the Canal into Hereford City
Starting from the North, the historic line of the Canal runs parallel to the Sutton St Nicholas Road and crosses under the A4103 Roman Road (where the former Hereford & Worcester County Council built a new bridge for the Canal in 1995).  A little further the Aylestone Park Project Site is reached.  After a short infilled section, Aylestone Tunnel takes the Canal under the main Newport to Shrewsbury/Worcester railway line.

Emerging from the tunnel, the restored canal will need to deviate along a former railway siding from its original line to avoid a large factory, and then to pass around the Hereford Retail Park (where a new footbridge and new road bridge were built to accommodate the future line of the Canal in 2000).

The historic line is regained just before the Harper’s Site. Widemarsh Canal bridge is next and, shortly afterwards, the Canal will terminate in a New Hereford Basin.

A recent Planning Application for the redevelopment of the Holmer Trading Estate, Hereford, which included plans to restore a further section of the Hereford and Gloucester Canal, including proposals for 115 new homes, together with a small convenience store, in addition to considerable local employment and retail floor space, was turned down by Herefordshire Council. (lack of vision again!!)

However, the developers took the Application to an Appeal. As a result, the decision has been reversed. In his summing up of the case, the Planning Inspector said ....

“… the likely benefits associated with the re-opening of the Canal would be substantial. It seems to me that this is an important section of the Canal in terms of achieving the Unitary Development Plans long-term restoration aims.†... “Restoration of the length of Canal indicated in the Obligation would add substantially to the significance of the Canal as a feature within the City. In my judgement, the benefit of the scheme to the restoration of the Canal is sufficient to tip the balance in favour of allowing the Appeal....â€

It seems very clear that the proposed restoration of the Hereford and Gloucester Canal was crucial to the Inspector, and persuaded him, on balance, to grant the Appeal.

An artist’s impression of how the new Canal Basin at Edgar Street might look.

Interesting to discover Hereford's past. Maybe Colin can create a section to highlight the glory of old hereford before the ESG spreads out like a cancer and smothers everything.

A good start would be here at Hereford Old Pics. The aim of this site is to give a different look at Old Hereford, with new and old pictures of its people, it's buildings, it's businesses and events from over the years. Something a little different for people to take a look at and talk about.

Thank you for the information that's great.  :Thumbs-Up:
