Local elections - what would you like to see happen?

Newton Farm Ward

* Community Centre built - as part of the original Oval Development

* Neighbourhood Watch and foot patrols reinstated

* Street Cleaning - ie weeds removed from kerbs

* Tree Pruning - restore some light to affected properties

What about the other wards - any suggestions - only two weeks to go till voting 6th May. Elected councillors will forget once voted in so a reminder/checklist may help them.

Less than a week to go and little interest from the electorate on this site. Newton Farm needs a good clean up and to make it somewhere to be proud to live. If you ignore the people and the council show a lack of interest in the area no wonder it will become more blighted.

Hi both if the people elect me as councillor again I will definatly get onto BBLP about the state of the roads and pavements immediately they are in a terrible state of disrepair, when I was your councillor between 2004-15 I had a monthly walk around the estate with Belfore Beattie to point out what repairs needed to be done. looking to get 30mph limit on Brampton Rd, Waterfield rd and Charlton Ave. clean up the Oval and the bus shelter. and Conexus (HHL) To look at the outside paintwork of the Wyes Buys centre and shop they look derelict. The piece of ground was supposed to be a new build community centre, it was never built. 3 weeks ago in the Hereford Times there was a new Hereford Plan Newton Farm was mentioned to have new purpose built building money allocated from central government, I will go after this funding for the residents of Newton Farm, also Conexus for the piece of land opposite the Fish Shop for the community centre with mixed facilities in the building. Together with what I'm standing for a Referendum to reinstate the build of the bypass and its funding, with a Referendum the present coalition council will not be allowed to interfere, but I will need the residents to support me in this by electing me again.

One day to go to voting and judging by the few responses not much interest. Nice to see Glenda still going at it. More local support to push for the above items would be a start to improve the neighbourhood with maybe some resident's meetings linked to Neighbourhood Watch on a regular basis with Housing Association, BBLP representatives so that they are all singing off the same song sheet.

Well, a referendum was never going to happen, no matter who was promising it. The present ruling group have delivered very little of what was promised two years ago, yet another disappointment. I know they're up against entrenched and belligerent officers, and an autonomous BBLP, but ultimately that should be firmly dealt with.

After walking down and watching the traffic piling up all the way from Steels down to the Newtown Road/Holmer Road, the removal of the traffic lights down Edgar Street has to be a top priority.Traffic is needlessly being stopped by the totally pointless lights at the Edgar Sterrt/Blackfriars Street jtn leading to traffic backing up then slowing down to let vehicles in from the merging lanes. It then piles up on the Newtown Road roundabout then backs up even more when vehicles wait to turn right into Mortimer Road.
Newtown Road over the rail bridge also needs to be widened to make two lanes.

Having waited for a ridiculous time on my bike at the equally ridiculous Link Rd/Commercial Rd lights this morning, I was reminded that there's no reason why traffic lights could not have been turned off/resequenced throughout the City - last year's lockdown would have been the perfect time to do it and give people time to get used to it. But, yet again, the Council seem to be paralysed in the headlights, unable to do anything. Cllr Harrington really needs to do something, anything, and now.

I wish they would listen to Colin who has long campaigned to turn off the traffic lights, I notice other local groups are now highlighting this too which will keep the momentum going. Congratulations to Anne-Marie Probert on her win and well done to all of the other candidates who stood.

Traffic lights on the Blackfriars street junction go to red when nobody is either crossing the road of in a vehicle waiting to get out.
I have reported this fault for the last 6 months yet nothing is done.
I was at the lights on the Newmarket roundabout today going down Edgar Street.Lights on red, nothing coming and waited 1 min for them to change.Down to the next set by Blackfriars Street, again on red,one car comes out of Blackfriars Street then pedestrian crossing light goes to green but nobody crossing the road.Result..Traffic backing up on Newtown Road roundabout.

To keep it on thread, the ruling parties were voted in because people wanted to see something happening about the City's frustrating traffic problems. They said they would address it, they had the answers, lights would be turned off. They have failed to deliver. More consultants have had more money for no demonstrable benefit to the City. I do wonder if there isn't some hidden payoff for all these traffic lights - like a never ending lucrative maintenance contract for instance.
