I agree traffic was much easier back then, traffic lights defeat the object to me.
You only have to look at what happened in Ledbury Rd and the utter mayhem these lights have caused since they were installed.
Rat running through Whittern Way has become unacceptable.
Also become a great teaching aid for children and parents teaching their children to cross the road on the red man.

Not a lot of use at the weekend when the council offices are closed, where do you go then?
Gaol St loos are closer to the town centre

The beyond retail by Mark Williams is a good read.We need to stop moaning about empty shops and find an alternative use for them.

Poor sod! He never stood a chance. Surely when this poor baby was christened or registered at birth, some fool must have said, 'hang on. Do you think this is going to give this little lad the heads up if ever he wants to join the Police or engage in any career involving him watching over money'
I mean I'd sooner have been given the name bloody Adolf than Gypsy Outlaw. Bloody Gypsy Outlaw! Poor sod. It's no wonder he's got a short temper. I've been trawling through the names you can give kids and nowhere does Gypsy Outlaw come up. If the name ain't on the list then as far as Im concerned, that's it. Here's the list. Pick one and clear off.
And as for the Police and these ridiculous Operational names, why can't they pick something more appropriate rather than bloody Trilby. If I was laid up in bed, skewered by a bloody butter knife, the last thing I want to hear is my stabbing has been called bloody Trilby or worse Pork bloody Pie. It's silly and its got to stop. If ever I got into power that'd be the first thing I did. Lets have some proper Operational names like, Operation Stabbing down the Brewers Arms or Operation Gypsy stabbed someone.
I am soon (next year) to be related to this excuse for a human being

2015 Not that far away is it
I have this feeling we will still be ranting and raving four years from now no matter who is in charge of the gaff. -
Well it was gridllock but went back up Edgar Street about an hr ago and it was clear

I'm now on my way from Tupsley to Belmont....Wish me luck

Just switching these new lights on and fcucking off without spending a day to make sure the timing is right, sounds
like highways.
Something needs to be said and done and done NOW not in a weeks time. -
You have just added the link that Colin had already put in the first post, see above in the first post at the bottom of the topic where it says 'Full Details'

Just thought I'd add to this although the lines do not exist anymore.
Many a time I was in the middle lane when vehicles to the right and left were not in correct lane and I had to toot my hornbefore they hit me but one time a few years back it did not help as I was hit in the front wing by a gent in the lane to go around the roundabout.
He turned out to be the father of the bloke who owns Cavanaghs :-) -
Well done Jim indeed!
This would appear to be one of those rare victories for common sense we must all ring this date on our calendar's, to remind ourselves that just occasionally, it CAN happen!
And Colin, I appluade your determination to try to improve our traffic issues - so a big "Thanks" to you as well !!
Hold ya horses Dippy,They are still on

Hi folks I agree with Colin and I got fed up with those pointless lights and the huge traffic que's so I organised this meeting with the council officer incharge of highways and the cabinet member CLLR Phillip price I also contact a friend at Amey who still look after the A49 I was told by him that those temporary lights were put on so that the buses could get out off tesco's "wtf" the perminant lights will be in place by Thursday next week I argued we have nothing to lose as the traffic can't get any worse westbound on the 49 and Newmarket street so they have agreed to ask the highways agency to give this a trial and see if the good folk of Hereford can use a roundabout as they were designed for after all the rest of the uk can so fingers crossed some common sense may prevail.
Also at that meeting they agreed to include city ward councillors when they plan to shut Newmarket street in January and listen to our thoughts and ideas.
By the time you get a reply Jim it will be to late

That's what I like, a common sense solution to a problem, that's put into action quickly!
No messing, no fuss, just sorted!
Well done, and thanks for posting the email!
This was the email that was sent so herefordshire council are doing there bit
Dear Andy / Paul
Further to my discussion with Paul over the phone, I would like to highlight that there is significant concern locally that the temporary traffic lights which are currently in place as part of the works at the roundabout are causing excessive delays to traffic travelling westbound along Newmarket street towards the roundabout and southbound along Edgar Street towards the roundabout.
It has been suggested that this would be considerably improved by the removal of the temporary signals pending the introduction of the permanent signals which I understand it likely to be completed by next Thursday.
Please can you urgently consider whether you are able to remove the temporary signals to help improve the traffic flow. If this is not possible, please can you explain why you consider these temporary signals to still be necessary.
I would also be grateful for confirmation of the planned reinstatement of the historic cider press.
I would be grateful if you could respond to myself, Cllr Price (cabinet member) and Cllr Kenyon (local member within the City) tomorrow.
Regards
Richard Ball

Nice to see at least one Councillor doing something about the total chaos these lights have caused but its been two weeks Jim.
When did you ring him and when did you send the e-mail? and does richard Ball live in Hereford? my bet is he does not.

Hi,
I can report that at my request Council Highways Officers have spoken to HA and they, Highways Agency, say they are believe that they have to right the sequence on the traffic lights at ASDA roundabout but are monitoring the situation. Apparently the SCOOT system for controlling the traffic lights across the city, had a fault which now too has been put right.
Not wishing to tempt fate but hopefully things will go ok from now on.
Chris Chappell
Chris....I have had discussions with someone from highways regarding the SCOOT system. It is broke and has not worked for more than 10 yrs.

The box is to prevent traffic from Ross Road and A49 entering to belmont road in the event that the opposite is not clear and really should only be necessary if the traffic lights are working. Free flowing roundabouts should not have a box junction. the fact that they had stopped was muscle memory and I do not believe had anything to do with the box. TBH, how many herefordians obey the box rule. You need only look at the junction at Commercial Road to see that they don't pay it attention. :)
Many people in Hereford do not know that they can enter a box junction when turning right or left

Pretty narrow minded if you think they all send their money back home.
We forget that the way we used to do our shopping started to decline with the birth of supermarkets. The internet has taken its toll on shops in the last 10 yrs. We the consumer are to blame for empty shops
