  1. Two reasons I know about is because it is in a conservation area it has to be reinstated as it was before, the other was that as it is privately owned they could not agree on the amount of insurance payout, that was about 18 months ago. As i said in my previous post I saw men working there.

Watched them putting some blue safety netting on the front the other day.

I have heard River Island could not wait any longer for the building to be rebuilt and are now going on the new development.

Also if English heritage are involved which I think they are then this is another reason for the delay in rebuilding.

  2. As a new member, I am not sure whether this has been aired before . . . but is anyone else sick and tired of looking at the scaffolding in High Town?

It is now three years since the fire at the River Island site and there is still no sign of a re-build. This inertia is particularly annoying at a time when the Council continue to give their unstinting support to the Old Livestock Market scheme - a project which will in itself challenge the viability of the historic city core.

I have repeatedly asked Herefordshire Council why they are not taking enforcement action in order to insist on the repair and refurbishment of these buildings but they are unable to reassure me beyond saying they are 'encouraging' the owners to re-build.

It is clear to everyone that the owners will not re-build voluntarily. They have pocketed the insurance monies and have no interest in re-investing in High Town at a time when the Old Livestock Market development is sucking up all potential new tenants in the city. In fact, the owners have a further motive for not refurbishing in so far as the buildings will remain rates-free while ever they are unusable.

This continuance of this eyesore is a scandalous dereliction of the Council's duty. At a time when the historic centre needs all the support it can get, the Council are allowing this carbuncle to remain while polishing it's new crown jewels at the OLM.

Please, Please, Please try and shake our Councillors out of this nightmare!

    Oh God not again

  3. The Highways Agency have objected because the illumination level at 600CD/m2 will be in excess of the maximum allowed and will dazzle drivers. Our City Council, bless 'em, have no objection - did they even look at the drawings?

Not to late to object - comments close tomorrow -  if you can face the horror that is the Council website, start here

I can guess the highways have not looked as they are asking where the bloody sign is in relation to the highways :Hmm:

If the highways agency were based in Hereford I bet our traffic woes would not be as bad as they are

They have not objected because they cannot do so.

There is no min/max to how bright lighting can be there are only guidelines

Guidelines have this statement below guideline recommendations.

: These notes are intended as guidance only and the application of the values given in Tables 1 & 2 should be given
consideration along with all other factors in the lighting design
  5. I actually put the suggestion forward for a covered footbridge at the council meeting in April, I also wrote in the press where I received many responses agreeing with me, unfortunately when I put it to the full council meeting my suggestion was IGNORED!!!

I also feel the shopping centre should be called Hereford Bull shopping centre after all our bull is known the world over. Also put the bull from High Town in the entrance to the centre.

Nice of you to think our disabled friends with your footbridge Glenda

  6. I opened my curtains this morning at 7am only to see the traffic building up outside my door, it comes to something when the traffic fills half the roads on the estate trying to get onto the Belmont road.

I used to overtake all the rat runners down by Oval when I lived on the farm.Always said there should be an access only sign down Southolme Rd

  7. Someone leaked our decision to H&W radio, so yes I can confirm there will be NO COALITION BETWEEN THE TORY'S AND INDEPENDENTS! You will be able to read our full press release in either the Journal and HT this week!

I fail to see the secrecy about this Glenda and you know what happens when that word is used

  8. I was quite looking forward to a real modern shopping centre, I am disappointed with the amount of bricks and lack of glass to be honest another opportunity to modernise Hereford gone.

Not that keen on all those bricks either but you cannot please everyone  :Happy_32: I for one would of hated modern glass buildings on that site.

Think I'll wait till it is all finished before I start picking holes/

  9. Oh the other thing I noticed was that the new third lane is nearly always mostly empty. The amount of traffic heading on the A49 greatly outnumbers that going towards Whitecross Road.

I noticed that the 2 left lanes (A49) were so chocka-block that they effectively block access to the new third lane because everyone in front is going down the A49 so those wanting to go to Whitecross have to sit behind the normal A49 traffic anyway until they can get into the new lane right at the end.

The car behind me at Pizza Hut was next to me at the Tesco roundabout, proof, again, that the traffic has not been improved.

They should of done a traffic study to see exactly how many vehicle actually go down Whitcross Road from Edgar St or better still ask me,someone who uses roads around Hereford every day as the answer is hardly any.

People who want to go Whitecross area from Holmer Rd use Grandstand Rd.Why the hell would they want to go all the way down Edgar Street to do so.

  10. I don't see how this could be a good thing. Traffic lights at roundabouts are designed to create artificial gaps for traffic to flow through.

When the lights were out at the bottom of Edgar St a fornight ago, it took me half an hour to drive down Edgar St, which I could have walked in 5 minutes. When you drive up Edgar St, you get stuck at traffic light-less Heart of Oak roundabout.

It is simple: When you go around a roundabout, as you all know, you give priority to drivers coming from your right. In some locations, of course, there IS no break in traffic from the right so either you wait there for hours, or you take a risk. Inserting traffic lights allows everyone to get a go.

The reason why there was chaos Jud is because they who know best thought it a great idea to install temp lights half way around roundabout and turning a blind eye to the mayhem they were causing.

  11. Contact the hereford tree forum they may already have plans afoot I'm up for the right tree in the right place and would be happy to support any plans on that basis!!

Agree, plant trees but the right species & in the right place.

  12. Not my words, the words from a number of different websites and forums by professional builders. And basically what they said, the bricks get wet, the salt is drawn out, it looks bad but isn't a big deal.

The one about cleaning I'd assume was just jet wash the bricks and let them dry then clean off the salt before being laid - like I say, I'm not a builder, that's why I asked/looked it up

Quite right Biomech no big deal really

  13. What do people think of it? I can't stand this replacement for Hereford Matters (sort of) and I have told him so. Amazingly he has not deleted the conversation, yet, 11:00 4 Dec 13. We shall see. If he does, I'll whack it up here. What's a rest bite?
