  1. If there was any doubt that this Council were totally out of their depth when dealing with the smart city-kids of Stanhope/McAlpine/British Land, latest news is that Stanhope have bought up the H & M Lease in Commercial Street - no doubt using the £500k they were gifted by the Council following their least-minute brinkmanship - with a view to closing the store and moving H & M to the Old Livestock Market site.

Further, we will be looking at scaffolding in High a Town for a great deal longer (it's already been 3 years!) because the anchor tenant, River Island, has also been poached by the OLM.

Whatever happened to the ring-fencing of existing city centre businesses promised by this Council?!

There is nothing stopping any business from relocating where ever they want no matter how much people dislike the idea.

And who really blames River Island ? I certainly don't.

Busineses that grow and prosper need bigger and better premises something that the Town centre cannot give.

  2. The new schematic shows that H&M, Fat Face, River Island, Vodaphone and Clarks are moving out of the city centre into the OLM to join Next, TKMaxx and the Odeon.

I've said it time and time again, the councils big picture has clearly always been to move the center of Hereford and start again from scratch.

I heard Vodafone and Clarks are just opening other stores there same as Boots

  3. During this period temporary traffic lights will be used to assist with regulating traffic flow

Can I just say that if these temp traffic lights cause as much trouble as the temp lights on Newmarket roundabout did that they simply turn the bloody things off and just have traffic lights for pedestrians to cross road.I know this is a simple solution but for some reason we have a lunatic within highways/Council who has a traffic light fetish

  4. Must say that trying to get Amey to have a road sweeper down the path where I lived used to be a joke.Even when I finally got them to come every two weeks that only lasted for three months then it was back to ringing the Council who done a log complaint which nearly always fell on deaf ears.
Now that Balfour do it they are here every week including a couple of ladies picking up rubbish and cleaning out bins.Happy days

  5. It always amazes me why they roll out Infinity broadband in big cities first smallest last. It's as if we small City and Country bumpkin folk are some sort of lepers.
Finally had Infinity2 installed six months ago and my speed is around 50mb/sec.That in relation to other European Countries is laughable with a French friend of mine telling me he gets speeds near 1 tb

  6. Taken from Herefordshire Council newsdesk.

Work will commence to improve the junction of King street and Bridge street in Hereford.

The scheme is due to begin with preliminary works on site on Monday 27th January 2014, and is likely to last 6 to 7 weeks. The scheme is being completed with minimum disruption to traffic flows.

The narrowing and realignment of the King Street exit will slow and reposition emerging vehicles to provide a better view of approaching cyclists and vehicles. Colour surfacing and new street furniture will create more of a "shared space" feel which will help vehicle behaviour.

Reducing number of bollards and existing sign posts to improve overall view and visibility. Pedestrian crossing locations will be better defined and the overall layout will be more pedestrian friendly.

the funding scheme is a match funding between Herefordshire council and Department for Transport Cycle Safety Fund.

    END.

Lets hope this has nothing to do with the highway robbery agency after the £260,000 rip off Asda improvement

  7.

Notice that there is some movement on the other side of Greyfriars Bridge with the submission of a Planning Application in the local press 9th January 2014.

    Planning public notices
It is a legal requirement for the council to give public notice of certain types of planning application and other planning matters by the display of an advert in a local newspaper.

I thought this had been up before the planners and withdrawn for some reason a few years ago. Here is  a montage of what the development could look like:

At least it does not look like that hideous factory look building on the Newmarket roundabout
