  1. Apologies - The IOC manifesto refers only to an eastern river crossing - not a by pass at all. Presumably if deemed viable this would go from the end of the Rotherwas relief road to where..? Certainly not to the A49 north of the city I guess.

Actually I use a car maybe once a week on average but my walking and cycling trips would be easier and safer if all those cars that did not have to go through the city centre went elsewhere.

  2. Being cynical I wonder about the IOC policy on this

The technical evidence against a by pass may be there but I guess the vast majority of residents believe that a by pass is necessary. My recollection is that IOC were previously, based on the evidence, firmly against any by pass.
Amanda correctly points out that the eastern route option is now in the IOC manifesto but also adds that there will an evaluation.

Have they included the possible promise of a by pass to the east as a political manoeuvre just to win votes but if they win control will evaluate it out?

  3. I would like to hear both sides before the full scale "witch hunt" is set in motion.

One thing has always intrigued me though about dogs (and I do like them).

Why do owners feel they have the right to exercise their pets on any piece of private land they choose. The field my have been, or not, empty of livestock but if it does not belong to the dog owner why is he there?

That said there is no excuse for running over/hitting a dog deliberately with a vehicle

  4. A nice thought but also going for a tab at the OLM Costa maybe a step too far. For a number on here the OLM is equivalent to hell on earth and they would probably turn to stone if they visited

I can envisage Bobby47 outside the Wellington swaying from side to side - one part of him wanting another shot of caffeine and another part pulling him away from the "antichrist" shopping centre

If only Two Wheels Good could pluck up the courage he could use the excellent cycle parking stands and have a coffee whilst watching over his bike

  5. Wow Amanda you "loathe" Cargill. Well done!

Now I don't eat their products but I recognise the long standing contribution they make to the economy of the County and also acknowledge the problems that often arise

I hope you are making your loathing clear in your election publicity?

As the factory is in your ward and assuming you are elected I would like to be a fly on the wall when they ask you for a meeting on an issue that affects them. What do you say - "I loath you and that's it"?

How far does your loathing go - close the factory and all the poultry farms?

Sorry Colin - I know it should be on a different thread

  6. I am all in favour of a study into the viability.

However in an ideal world the section running north from the Bulmers access gate at Widemarsh Common would be better utilised for its original purpose which was transporting cider by rail. That would get rid of some lorries on the roads. Of course if you can run a tram on or next to the railway then so much the better.

If Bulmers can be persuaded then also perhaps so could Cargill - that is if they stay given IOC's "veiled" opposition to intensive farming systems :Winky: :Winky: :Winky:

  7. Dippy - I am not convinced that any of the existing councillors (Cabinet or otherwise) are in it for either themselves or their cronies. You may not believe what they have done is in the best interests of the County but that is different to them being on the make.

That said I do not know who I will vote for but I am certain about this - I will be voting for whom I think is the best candidate in my ward and who has the ability to deal with the ongoing strategic issues that we face because of the lack of money and not their particular party.

I feel that just voting, as a knee jerk reaction, for IOC or indeed any other party is not necessarily the right way to go

I see one of the IOC candidates is the former Chief Executive of the City Council (Charles Willis). What Wirral would have made of him is best left unsaid.

  8. You can find maps of the ward boundaries on the Council's website as is the list of candidates (also elsewhere on here)

It was the Boundary Commission who revised the ward boundaries and the rationale is on their website

Far better in my view that we have only one councillor per ward - easier to know who to contact and cheaper. If some existing Councillors fall by the wayside then so be it

(Awaits narky comments from Grid Knocker as usual!!!)

  9. Before everyone gets completely carried away, for myself I do support the idea in principle as a good sustainability measure but I would not want my taxes to be used on a project that will only be used by half a dozen people

So yes it is a good idea but there does need to be a detailed feasibility to see that it would be worth the money

  10. To have a park and ride you really must have a dedicated bus lane. People tend to not use park and ride if they just have to sit on a bus in a queue of traffic - they may as well stay in their car. So for a park and ride at Grafton you need to add another lane to the A49 into the city centre or take away one of the existing lanes.

If you can get a tram from a P & R car park to GWW then that might work
