  1. Here is an update on King George's Meadow and Bishops Meadow.

Several play swings have had to be permanently removed because they can not be repaired locally. Often equipment can be repaired on the spot or is taken away overnight and brought back next day. Play equipment is very expensive, like for like difficult to replace and there is no budget for replacement equipment. You have to remember that there are many play areas across the county where equipment is in need of replacement but there is no money to do so. Balfour Beatty inspect KG play areas every other day and act as quickly as possible.

There are a number of trees which have been felled or are to be in the next few weeks. This is because independent experts say that years of flooding have made these trees unsafe. It is hoped that some at least, will become tree sculptures.

Life belt stands inspected regularly and missing life belts replaced immediately.

There is a plan for a Labyrinth for Bishops Meadow. The funding for which will come from sources outside the council. So far the idea has received a lot of support.

Herefordshire Council would like Hereford City Council to take over the running of KG Meadows and Bishops Meadows, the tennis courts, golf etc. HCC would welcome the opportunity and we are commissioning an independent person to produce a business plan and costing. However, in order for the HCC to be able to maintain the land, grass cutting, tree repairs, play areas Victoria Bridge, path ways, river bank, tennis courts etc, we would need to have an income!

Hereford City Council is negotiating with Herefordshire Council various ways to provide an income to make it viable for the HCC to run the meadows and to enhance the area.

As I do not often come on to Hereford Voice for any further information on developments please contact me by email; cchappell@herefordshire.gov.uk I also hold a monthly surgery on the first Saturday of each month between 10- 11am at Hinton Community Centre, no appointment needed.

So if there is no money what is the point or creating a Labyrinth? Because they will have no money to update that either, we will eventually be left will lots of abandoned area's!

  2. I am not saying pull up the drawbridge, it is obviously to late for that option, but they should have done checks before ANYONE was allowed to enter! This is basic security measures.

I have just flown back into the UK from a recent trip to Spain, I am a EU citizen and guess what? I was checked several times before I left the UK and even though I had only got onto a plane, I was checked again when I landed in Spain, then I was checked yet again when I left Spain and again when I landed back in the UK, I reckon I wouldn't of got anywhere near airside without my passport or documentation proving who I was and yes you now going to say many lost their ID in the rush to escape all this persecution in Africa, oops I mean Pakistan, sorry, I meant to say Albania, or was it Afghanistan or Morocco nope maybe it was Tunisia oh no, that was it, Syria!

No checks were made on these people and letting in over a million migrants was Angela Merkel's decision, most German's did not want this mass influx of people but they were not given a choice, the decision was made without their input.

  3. Bobby, I do not buy into the notion that Angela Merkel opened her doors she acted as a humanitarian, fuelled I think by two noble causes. To help the troubled Middle East region and to set an example to the rest of Europe that this is the way to behave in the modern world, and that Germany, with its dark past, has learned its historical lessons and intends to learn from them, she did this because Germany needed cheap labour to help their dwindling economy and there is nothing humanitarian about that! That is my opinion and I share this view with many other people.

I agree many thousands of these people are genuine refugees but equally many thousands will not be genuine refugees! There are obviously terrorists disguised as refugees too, over a million people, yes a million! All lets into Europe without any checks, Angela Merkel has blood on her hands and there is a lot more still to come, but next year I will be surprised if she does not loose power, German people are fed up with her and what then? Yes she will just slide into the history books for someone else to clear up her mess, which is probably an impossible task now.

Alex you are 100% correct and the majority of people will agree with you of that I am sure, you took the words out of my mouth.

  4. Is it just me, or does anybody else find it a bit distasteful to read so many comments from people saying "I told you so..."

In all fairness, everybody knew that there would be more terror attacks all over Europe and the world, we really don't need to read bout how right you all are.

Sorry, you're all very clever, but I'd rather put my thoughts towards the dead, wounded and their loved ones.

It is not a case of being clever, it is a case that NOBODY in power wanted to listen to the warnings! So unfortunately, I think they need to KEEP READING 'WE TOLD YOU'

  5. This is pure criminal behaviour- intentionally selling goods which are contraband or brought into the country illegally. Full licensing hearing for Mila & Supersam is Thursday 15 December when a committee of councillors will decide what action they will take. In addition (hopefully) the shops owner will be prosecuted over the next few months. These cases are not a case of someone trying to keep their head above the water. This is deliberate intentional and systematic

A change in legislation which allows courts to close shops is needed.

A further debate should be held about the landlord who rent these shops out. They are taking rent which could be viewed as proceeds of crime - so money laundering comes to mind

You have made some valid points here, I never even considered the landlords in fairness but i think you could be right.
