  1. Nobody wants to pay for care anymore, but families expect someone else to deal with it! I was made aware just recently of an elderly person in desperate need of respite care. The children were advised by lawyers to sell the property and pocket the proceeds as according to parents wishes. This in turn then left the parents with no assets to fund private placements and the LA would deal with it! Sounds all too familiar.

My great aunt HAD to sell her property to fund residential care in the end, the authorities already helped her also as she was a spinster. As soon a my mother applied for power of attorney (as my aunt (96) was now bombarded with LA letters and the like and confused) the authorities were all over Mum. Every single penny of my mums and my aunts scrutinised. The LA even wanted a copy of the funeral expenses and demanded over £400 for some bursaries or something that they hadn’t accounted for!! All done and dusted Mum then received a tax bill for the little remaining money!!

In my opinion, if you have a property to sell to fund your care then so be it, why would you need it anymore surely your health outweighs financial benefits?

Yes I own my house. I was never fortunate to inherit one. I have insurance to cover all eventualities. Knowing that my hard earned money will not cost my family or LA a penny is probably one of the wisest decisions I’ve made.

I also know that by the time I require assistance the cost would be inflated considerably by today’s values, but isn’t that what paying insurance is about? My house is my child’s.

We work for everything receive nothing and expect our children to follow suit.

I do not agree, it is unfair that someone who owns a property and have worked all their lives to achieve this goal now have to sell it in order to pay for the old age care, yet someone who has been a lazy sod for most of their lives, claiming all sorts of benefits and having their rent paid for can be in the same care home without having to pay a penny, how is that fair?

  2. I am appalled by this!! They just want to increase use of individual cars to increase congestion and pollution, to justify their plans for building a so-called bypass.  I would much rather they used this funding to e.g. hire out bikes for free. That would contribute to a much more effective "Choose how you Move" scheme.

O wind your neck in, some people are not happy with anything that the council offer! This is more about educating cyclists.

  3. I saw the JCB here yesterday and wondered what they were doing along the bank, thank you for the information and good to see that more has been scheduled into future maintenance. I had a wonder across early this evening and it look much much better, hopefully the stream will flow a lot easier now. I did notice that they couldn't get to the parts around the tree that is situated in the centre of the stream, (4th photo down before the one of the JCB) tree looks like it could do with removing.

  4. I took the photo later in the afternoon. There had been several other people helping out so altogether about 8 people. I didn't realise that Cllr Rone was present, but I can vouch that he did contribute to the action. Glenda the man in the red cap was Phil Edwards. It just shows what can be done. If this good work continues I will have to change the title on this thread to "I told you it would get better"! I notice that this topic has been viewed 31,125 times - lets hope it encourages others to get involved. I have tried to get our local shop to stock a few litter pickers, but nothing for sale so far.

A good job done here well done to everyone for giving up their time to do this community clear up

  5. Regardless of whether this an A or B road or residential area, I have paid my road tax which entitles me to drive along these streets. I never mentioned any road works? What I did say was that THESE houses were not there a year ago. What I did say was, "if they put roundabouts back and reduced the amount of traffic lights things would run a lot smoother, this is evident when the traffic lights at Asda breakdown" and I stand by this statement.

Agree with you on this one Mick, I use the route most mornings and the problem in my view stems from the traffic lights as Asda and beyond. Colin has been running a campaign with some interesting videos for years in an attempt to get them turned off or at the very least make them part time at night.

I have no real problem getting out from the Oval either, most motorists will let you out.

Glenda, it was actually DILLIGAF then mentioned roadworks in this reply:

I’ve also received a reply from the councillor. His explanation totally missed the point and stated that the issue is caused by the roadworks on Belmont Road!!

    I’ll post it later.

  6. On 04/11/2017 at 13:26, Steve Major said:

So sod everyone else on the footpath then.

Shared space is one thing but footpaths that are barely wide enough for pedestrians is a big no no for cyclists, the law is the law how long before people on mopeds have the same outlook?

I agree wholeheartedly, I read in this debate about maybe motorists in cars would drive and the hard shoulder of motorways because it would make them feel safer, imagine if we all did that, there is difference here in my opinion. Many cyclists are good law abiding people but many like the majority in these pictures are not. I watched a guy only this morning riding along the road and then decided to go up onto the pavement to avoid the traffic lights and jump the queue, they cant have it both ways.

  7. I'd of said the same thing a few weeks back but after chatting to Sam during one of her camp building projects on land I'm looking after and talking to someone who knows her I can say that she needs help but constantly refuses it,and she refuses it because of her mental

    state of mind.

I also spoke with someone who knows her well at work and they said, she used to be normal but now she is like this through years of alcohol and loads of drug abuse all self-inflicted. She has lost close friends and family who have all tried to help her over the years, they said she has always been an attention seeker and the drugs have just made it worse and made her paranoid. Her family just think she is a pain in the arse and want nothing really to do with her. I was informed that she was not evicted for no reason. Personally, I think you have to be pretty mental to want to stick a needle in your arm in the first instance.

  8. Really? After all the issues with the development at the Oval, builders not getting paid, low standards of finish etc, they are retaining them? Can't help but worry what these places will be like once the initial house builder guarantee has run out......I certainly wouldn't buy one, too many issues and hidden clauses (plus the recent developments in leasehold properties that have surfaced in the media)

I understand that they have been many many problems at the Oval, the new flats on Beattie Ave have many issues already, they cannot seem to work out how to achieve level gardens either, they are all over the place, is it that difficult?

  9. I don't know where you are going with this, but who said she was suffering from any mental illness? You are assuming far too much by the seem of it, you also do not know what the local authorities weighed up, if anything at all...to add to this you do not know if they consulted with anyone? This is all guess work on your behalf so far.

The woman is no longer on the roundabout so this topic has now more or less been exhausted.

I agree, a lot of assumptions being made here yet when someone assumes the opposite of her being ill or suffering from any kind of mental illness by saying she is a pain you get slated for those comments, glad she has been moved on personally, I don't think she has done herself any favours.

  10. Well I have another issue with this because tonight I called into the New Canton House Chinese in Bridge St as I remembered that they happily display their ratings but there is a twist...

    1. New Canton House Bridge Street, Hereford, Rated 2 - Last inspection 21 September 2016

Take a look at the photographs I took this evening, they are still displaying their original rating of 4 from back in 2015, any law against this? This is misleading is it not?

    Very misleading!
