  1. Yes,they are knocking down all the flats between now and 2017 and replacing them with 2,3,4 bedroom houses some to buy some to rent. There will also be 14 1 bed bungalows that I asked to be built for our elderly residents, there are  2 blocks of flats one block is being built in Beattie Ave as we speak, they are 4 storey 1 and 2 bed in same block, and another block the same in Broxash Drive. I have seen inside the houses they are bigger than I thought, the tenants from the flats who have moved into Vortex Way are very pleased with the new houses.

While this is good news surely there will be less homes if they are replacing the blocks with houses?

  2. Hi Alex....for the record, I don't have an issue with our wonderful bin men, I think they do a fantastic job, I don't believe I have ever said any differently.

You are correct....six bags will block the pavement equally as much as a wheely bin, causing just as much a problem.....but when the collections were weekly, LESS bags were put  out, and this issue was not as obvious.

I am actually in favour of fortnightly collections.....but there are problems coming to light now, which few people seemed to have taken into consideration.

Pavement access for pedestrians being one of them.

As I said, this isn't just down to refuse, it's also inconsiderate parking, and cyclist who persist on riding on the pavements!

(My apologies to Smartieno1, for taking this thread away from your original post.)

Hi dippy, I was not referring to you with my comments about blaming the bin men, that was directed at the author and in general. I agree that inconsiderate parking and cyclists could be improved.

  3. Coincidentally, this very issue of pavement blocking was highlighted on a news item yesterday evening.

This was mostly regarding cars partly parking on pavements....but equally applies to cyclists and an army of wheely bins! The report showed how folks with visual impairments and their trusty guide dogs are struggling to navigate their way safely around many obstacles blocking their path.

It also stated that a large proportion of wheelchair users and parents with prams/buggies, find themselves having to walk in the road.

This is the problem,( H Wilson, M. Preece and Alex), which I was attempting to highlight in my earlier post......nothing to do with adverse weather conditions, being neighbourly, apportioning blame,  or using common sense.

Try navigating the pavements of Whitecross blindfolded, and you'll quickly realise why I am concerned about this.

I live in a cul-de-sac so maybe I am blinkered but we live in a World of convenience which includes wheelie bins, good or bad they are here and here to stay, while i did not appreciate the problems you are saying exist in Whitecross etc I am slightly confused as to the difference between 4-5 black bins bags, half of which would be open because of birds to a solid wheelie bin. Surely loads of all size and shaped black bags would cause a bigger problem to the visually impaired?? I still don't agree with laying blame with the bin men. There is no quick fix here, however, I think putting the wheelie bins on the road up next to the kerb has to be a better place than actually on the path for those people who do not have gardens.

  4. Mind you it is clear that the responsibility for replacing the bin back within the cartilage of your property is the Bin People's....and any injury caused to pedestrians by bins blocking the Highway before and/or after bin collection  are the fault of Herefordshire Council...

    Hope that helps

What a lot of rubbish (excuse the pun) due to the high winds in the last 24 hours there are currently 3 wheelie bins half way down our street i noticed this morning, i suppose that's the councils fault too is it?  Well let me tell you what I have done today, I collected each of these bins and put them back where they had come from and wedged them as best as I could to prevent this happening again. I also informed each of my neighbours, who i must add were very happy and thanked me, so being a good neighbour has to be better than playing the 'Blame Game' in my experience.

  5. Do you really believe that this was a random attack on a "High Profile" target?  I find it hard to believe that they can keep Salman Rushdie safe for years but not this organisation..and isn't it amazing how they have just managed to identify the gunmen in a matter of hours but couldn't prevent this happening...

I wonder if it could just be.... nothing more than a smokescreen to erode even more of our freedoms?

I cannot believe what I have just read, well actually I can...I suppose the people who died never really died either eh and they were just a load of actors who have been paid off. I find these conspiracy topics even more offending!!!  :Thumbs-Down:  :Thumbs-Down:  :Thumbs-Down:  Shame on you.

  6. You used to be able to buy a curry in Hereford at 3am, I agree that maybe there are not enough people out at that time but I also believe its because most go straight home from the clubs because they know everywhere is closed!

It's not about winners and losers, its about choice and that is where I am coming from.

Choice has to be good. This is an encouraging development and well done to HV for keeping up the pressure on this out of touch policy.

  7. A real pity Murph cant keep the Jailhouse open. Fantastic news though seeing the Left Bank reopening and brightening up the river wye again, nothing better than seeing all those lights as your drive over the bridge. I hope they have loads of Xmas tree's all around it will look amazing.

  8. Discrimination! Mr Singh and Mr Chips cannot open but the Lunchbox can, absolutely ridiculas! Unfair too in my opinion. So are you more aggressive after you have eaten a kebab than you are after eating a beef roll? NO!! Because all you want to do after a few beers topped up with food is sleep in my experience. Jim Mooney has been doing this job far too long and either needs to get into the 21st century or hand the reins over to a younger person.

  9. Not in agreement at all actually - definitely not on the "speculative invoices" - but I do understand that its a way to stop people parking on "my" land.

When I say "my" - I wish I had the money to own a bit of land in the centre of Hereford, but how else would we advise land owners to stop people parking on their land.

If it were me - and I had worked hard, saved, invested in a bit of land and had people parking on it - I would put signs up and put wheel clamps on them. My personal view - "how dare people" park on my land.

If someone actually parked in my driveway - I think I may do something even better.

If you are not allowed to put wheel clamps on peoples cars - I would block them in with another vehicle - perhaps an old banger.

First of all you cannot clamp a vehicle anymore.

If the land owner had any sense, why not just charge a small nominal fee for evenings and weekends. If you could park for 30mins for 50p or 2 hours for £2 I don't think people would mind paying that. In most cases the landlord is not loosing out because during office hours the people who have paid for their permits are using the spaces. My gf  has a permit here and she has never had a problem parking here during office hours and neither have any of her colleagues. This is more about these scammers exploiting people and attempting to charge extortionate prices for parking in the evenings or like in Colin's case a Sunday night, when his was the only vehicle other than a van parked in the car park along the side of the Black Lion pub.

If the landlord is really bothered then just put up a gate.

  10. Good luck with their application, it will be so much better once this place is back open.

It is such a nice looking building and it looks great all lit up at Christmas, I for one am looking forward to seeing this venue busy once again, I hope they are going to offer Sunday carvery

The Hope Pole in Commercial Road closes it's doors on September 8th and re opens as BBQ and Brew on September 25th with 24 additional staff

A carnivorous celebration of the American Deep South pit barbecue. Forget the sad burnt banger on the Barbie at home, this is barbecue as it’s meant to be.

In true Southern style, BBQs & Brews slow cook their meat in imported American smokers for up to 18 hours. Locally-bred Herefordshire meat takes centre stage here, coupled with authentic barbecue rubs and sauces inspired by the Texan masters. The open kitchen gives customers ringside seats to the smoking process before they tuck into some of our mouth-watering dishes on offer.

And the tribute to America continues at the bar, pitting punchy American Craft beers and smooth bourbons against delicious English cask ales and local craft cider.

This is a fun-loving, family-friendly barbecue joint, offering something for everyone. Whether you want to celebrate an event, catch up with a group of friends, enjoy a family treat or just to enjoy the game in the bar with friends, there’s always a good reason to visit BBQs & Brews. Even if it’s just for the love of meat.
