  1. When I was young, the police would stop us and tell us to dismount if we were seen on the footpaths and we were just kids, so they should be saying the same to these adults today. I appreciate what everyone says about motorists but this discussion is about cyclists ignoring the highway code and I agree that they ALWAYS play the victim and portray the motorist as the bad guy. There are many accidents where cyclists are injured and killed by motorists but a lot of these may be caused by the cyclists themselves not abiding by the rules I wonder if anyone thought of that and took that into account with their percentages and figures.

I see many cyclists breaking the law all the time.

  2. Very valid points made from all, trouble is EVERY cyclist tends to get tarred with the same brush these days. I do ride occasionally (not much this year due to a 16 mile round trip commute and crappy weather on weekdays) and I will admit to riding on the pavement at times, especially along sections of Holme Lacy Road and occasionally Belmont Road. However, as a motorist as well, I still follow the highway code when it comes to crossings and traffic lights, waiting my turn with the rest of the traffic.

I think some form of road safety training should be compulsory in schools (I think some are already) with cycling related stuff from late primary school, and car related in late secondary level, and with the advent of VR software, then it could be reinforced quite well.

In fairness to this topic Colin has not said all cyclists, he has written "some cyclists" there is good and bad in all but I do hear of a lot of cyclists playing the victim card and because riding a bike appears to score additional brownie points by being eco friendly, many use this to justify their actions. The law should apply to all road users and just because one group of people tick all the nice boxes it should not make them exempt.

I see this guy has got off with the Manslaughter charges only yesterday, he has been found guilty of a smaller crime and will have a reduced punishment in comparison.

Motorists who break the law are issued fines and penalty points and in more severe cases are banned altogether, yet cyclists will only ever have fines if caught and small ones too! The law needs to be updated to include cyclists, particularly now that we are seeing an increase in bikes on the roads.

  3. I had food poisoning from the Chinese in Bridge St (opposite Jamal's) on Thursday night. I only ordered a chicken curry and chips this was not long after the opened and I hate being the first customer in any takeaway. I heard them cooking the chips but to be honest I never heard the loud fan that you hear when they fire up the wok and my food was brought to me within a few mins, I did think at the time, wow that was quick. I remember looking at some of the larger pieces of chicken and thinking this doesn't look the best and discarded a few, anyway within half an hour of eating the food I had stomach ache and after hours of feeling not quite right I eventually threw up at about 2am. I reckon the chicken is pre cooked and because it was so early they could of thought it was still warm and by adding the hot curry sauce to it would be good enough, I don't really know but that thought did cross my mind.

What would you do now? Would you pop in and explain that the food from the other night made me unwell or would you just avoid going there again? I have used this Chinese many times and never had a problem in the past but upon looking at the recent discussion on Hygiene today I notice that they are only rated as 2, which has really put my off.

  4. (First post so just ignore me...only got dragged in because I passed her camp going to Asda this afternoon....and now my little lad wants to build a 'base/den' on a roundabout at Stretton Sugwas)

Shouldn't worry too much....a wet summer and a freezing autumn might change her mind.

I do wonder where she's getting water and washing - and taking care of other bodily functions though.  And if she's not claiming any benefits, what's she eating?

As for the Council?  I suspect that she has 'mental health issues' and the photo opportunity of uniformed British Police dragging an ill woman away isn't one I'd like to see.  I'd imagine that the Council, Police and Health Authorities are discussing the best way to end the situation for her and everyone's best interests.

Still, in Russia she'd have quietly disappeared ages ago - makes you proud we live in a country where that doesn't happen.

First off all welcome to the forum, it is always noce to see and welcome new members.

I agree with the most part of your reply however, I am sure you are not suggesting that in Russia she would disappear completely...that said, they wouldn't put up with this stupidity either, equally, I am not so sure it makes me proud to live in a country that does nothing about it.

  5. No -  his point appears quite clear.

If the statistics quoted are accurate then that destroys your "theory".

On the other hand your point, everything you have posted   seems to be attempting to make the point that there is a correlation between blue badges and scammers.

I can only surmise that you have no experience of the blue badge application process (I have) - if you did you would be aware of how difficult is is to obtain one.

But I am expecting that facts and experience will do little to change your mind .......

My overweight friend had no problem applying, I know because I helped him complete it, which puts your comments out the door. He also lets his family use it when they go to town, takes the Micky!

I can see where Colin is coming from here, no benefits or easy hand outs in Poland, hence less scammers claiming, hence the empty bays. Have you seen how many spaces they have designated in Broad St? It is a joke it really is.

It is the same in the Spain topic, it is no wonder the gov have no money when this sort if thing is happening.

  6. Her kids are with their father as she has split from him.

She want a 3 bed house so they can stay with her on occasions, this is why she is refusing a 1 bed flat/house.

Went past the roundabout today and it looks a mess with timber structures/props being put up with a load of balloons attached.

It's still an accident waiting to happen in my view.

  7. This all sounds like Sturgeon in Scotland demanding a second referendum, now they are demanding/protesting because they never got the result they wanted, so lets have another GE, it's pathetic it really is! We live in a democracy, the public have voted and Conservatives had over 50 seats MORE than Labour, that's it, no second chance at it.

This woman is camping on the busiest junction in Hereford, with 3 kids in toe 'apparently', this is an accident just waiting to happen, can't believe she is still there to be honest. How dangerous is this? Not only for her and her kids but motorists too. There is no smoke without fire and although I don't know the full facts, something doesn't add up to me.

  8. Good to see Jamal at the top of the tree rated 5, best kebabs around. Thank you for providing this list, I am aware this information is available online but who really studies it in depth, this list gives a brief snapshot to see at a glance and is very handy.

  9. I am pleased I made you chuckle dippy :tongue_32:

We have a good bunch of people on here all with varied opinions, lets keep discussing and arguing, there is something wonderfully British about it and it beats talking about the weather

  10. Ah. Sarcasm.

T'is the very lowest form of wit, Paul.

If I may respond to a point you made in post number 45, I will never - and I mean never - support this, or indeed any Tory government.

I'm pretty sure there are a fair few who share this view.

I don't know. These bloomin' looney lefties are everywhere now Paul. They'll soon be playing the tune that you'll find yourself dancing to.

    Morris dancing of course :)

  11. You asked me what I do & don't say resign so I told you…your responds is laughable it also tells me you have no real confidence in Mrs May to get a majority without going into partnership with the likes of the DUP if she did go to the polls again? Perhaps your really afraid that she'd lose to Corbyn if that was to happen?

Your also forgetting it was her who called for a GE in the first place because she believed she would win by a landslide it did not happen therefore she did not get a mandate!!!

A 50 seat majority it might be but it's still not enough for her to do as she wishes!

Just to correct you the stupid dwarf from across the border as you put her wanted a indyref again & not a GE

I am fully aware of about the little dwarf, I was making reference to her asking for another referendum simply because they didn't get the vote they wanted, so if you like I was being sarcastic by suggesting people asking for another GE amounts to the same, maybe you didn't get that? I am also fully aware that the PM did not need to call a GE but was trying to strengthen our hand with a mandate, of course if backfired, I think we all acknowledge that, nevertheless, imo the DUP was the only choice to make up the numbers and to be fair, the won the first vote last night... :Winky:

  12. Go to the polls again but with a new & revised manifesto austerity free especially while Brexit negotiations are on going…be very careful who is hired as my advisors & go after Corbyn by debating him one on one.

You need to show you can lead the country while not duck a fight but with a caring heart & sensible head fill the electorate with confidence in your ability to lead through all the tough negotiations of leaving the EU while not neglecting the needs of the people…also don't take it for grated you are going to win because the polls say so.

You are starting to sound more and more like that stupid dwarf in Scotland now, lets have another GE, we have only just had one and guess what? Labour were over 50 seats behind the Conservatives, over 50 seats mind you! Okay the Conservatives I must admit had a terrible campaign and lost their majority but the public certainly do not need yet another election right now. Everybody and I mean everybody needs to support this government now in negotiating the best Brexit deal they can get. What the 40% of youngsters that Labour gained during their targeted campaign have actually done is to massively weaken our country's strength against the EU Elite for these negotiations.
