megilleland
How long does it take to get our roads repaired? Longer than if the Japanese did the work. Watch these videos, following the giant sinkhole collapse a week ago, putting the town's five lane street into a big hole. Interesting to see the human interaction to get the work done. Operation Yashiori 1st Day Operation Yashiori 2nd Day By the way can we raise the council tax to buy a few more spray cans for BB to mark out our potholes! It is a pity that all our local council tax is given to private companies to shift offshore instead of creating local jobs so that our roads are once again highways and not cart tracks. I can see the Japanese building HS2 in a couple of months if they get the contract.

Clarkester
Nah, We pretty much gave all the steel to the Chinese in the late '90's. Followed quickly by all t he machinery to make more at a (for them) bargain price... So, does anybody know where we can get any steel from now? Back to the roads point, after spending time in Thailand, they also have a refreshing "Get the job done" attitude to road repair... None of this coning off lanes for half a mile either side, oh no... Just plonk a Daihastsu pickup with tape around it (don't worry about the tape if you haven't got any) and get two blokes to fix whatever the problem was. Done in two hours... Saw a brilliant overhead cable repair done in that fashion with scaffolding on the back of the pickup, no cones, no closed road, people just using common sense (sort of) In answer to the question though: How long does it take to get our roads repaired? Judging by the experiment in reverse road building on Barrs Court Road... Forever... Or longer.

twowheelsgood
How long? The High Town bomb site is a good guide. Interesting to read in the Lions paper delivered yesterday, that the Council's excuse for not moving this along is not perhaps as they have stated. Good to see they have finally sorted out the two mini roundabouts at the top of Aylestone Hill to stop the idiots driving over them although some still do. Ubique
How long does it take to get our roads repaired asked Megilland ....... Difficult question but perhaps " they " think that it's cheaper to pay out rather than fill potholes - wonder about the safety of cyclists ! Re Ragwerts comments , I have noticed that signs are being plonked at junctions stating words to the effect " No white lines at junction " I presume that covers them should there be a claim !
