Rory Stewart’s surprise elimination from Wednesday’s round in the Tory Leadership contest was achieved by what can only be described as vote rigging. As many as five staunch Boris supporters (hopeful of preferment in his government) were persuaded by one of his henchmen to temporarily ‘lend’ their support to Savid (my Dad was a bus driver) Javid. Javid duly moved up and young Rory was shafted. They don’t call ‘em The Nasty Party for nothing!

Tactical voting. As far as I'm aware it is legitimate. It obviously happened again today. 313 MP's cast their votes', in the different rounds of voting, for a purpose. Get over it. I'd be far more worried about dodgy postal voting in certain other areas outside any internal Party vote.

  2. This story caused confusion as the HT wrongly linked a photo of a nearby [unconnected] shop to their story. The booze application is for the old electrical appliance shop which is bang next door to the Asda entry road. A small number of comments got added to the story [including one from me] and one pointed out the exact picture error. There was also a hint, in a comment, that the HT could be guilty of defaming the wrongly pictured shop. The story then got edited to show a 'stock' google image of the proper premises. Subsequent to that all the comments were erased and the comment facility closed. So the 'freedom of speech', for that story on that site, is closed to anyone who has a view on the subject! Probably to minimise damage to the people responsible for the fiasco!

  3. Boris got a decent job done in London as Mayor. No other candidate has got any traction with the Tory Membership. So he will be the next PM. We all know it. I'm sure the only thing on his mind is delivering 'Brexit' before the next General Election. Corbyn is a bigger problem than Brexit in my opinion. An Iranian apologist. Marxist. His deputy condones civil unrest.

    Insurrection

  4. There were no major gaffes or major winners in the bbc debate tonight. Which I watched. Rory came out with his tired pragmatic approach of fronting up the TM deal for a 4th go. I really think he should defect to the Lib Dems as he's not a last resort 'no deal' man. Boris was singled out for his 'letterbox' comments about Muslim female attire which would not, I imagine, cause any Tory Members' to rip up their support for him. The remaining campaign, I suggest, for four of them, is just a race to get into the final two so as to lose to Boris in the Member vote. I seriously doubt that Rory Stewart would get a seat in a Boris Govt. Anyway ..... One more to be knocked out tomorrow. Tactical voting is now fully in play. Those votes include the 30 from the Dominic Raab camp. Those are 'hard' brexit votes. They can easily be used to wipe out Rory Stewart.

I think Boris Johnson will have a problem of entering the race with court proceedings against him, if it goes the wrong way he could find himself in prison.

You are 'out of touch' with reality. That court case never got off the ground. Anyone could see that!

  6. Quote

Residents and visitors are asked to make use of the existing capacity in the council’s other car parks around the city centre, and new signage along Station Approach will help direct people to Merton Meadow.

So ignore the f8ck off sized supermarket car park 10 yards' away! Or Lidl? Just Political speak again. Ignoring reality!

So the next British Prime Minister will be elected by just under 2% of the population. Does that sound fair to you?

Have you got the percentage of the British Population [to hand] who voted for Corbyn to be the next Prime Minister? I'm obviously referring to the Leadership Election he won. People need to recognise the difference between Party Leadership Elections and General Elections.

It is a great pity these prefabs are being demolished the people living there loved them

They loved them as it was a roof and what they were used to. The structures were past there sell buy date. I don't know the age of the residents' but if they are old they probably don't need disruption.

  9. Who is the least worst Candidate standing for South Hereford in the next General Election? Too early to say. The Election may be called earlier as well. I agree with the FPTP electoral system but it is heavily skewed against Candidates without cash.

  10. I use this shop virtually every day. The car parking is an ANPR camera system. Third party operator. I have never bought a ticket in that supermarket car park. Only had one penalty ticket which alleged I had parked overnight. I got let off as I was innocent. The store is getting serious parking abuse from casual parkers' tho. It's bound to increase with the student accommodation being built on the old Rockfield site opposite.

  11. 'So the next British Prime Minister will be elected by just under 2% of the population.' ~ The method for selecting the Tory Leader is up to the Tory Party. I'm not a Member so I don't have a vote. If people don't want a Tory Prime Minister then don't vote Tory in 2022.

  12. I will add that every excuse in the book has been used to thwart Brexit. The Remainers are dredging up that we never voted to be 'poorer'. We voted in ignorance of the consequences ..... (insert: we were too stupid). It's been 2 or 3 years of Political manipulation to reverse a result the Establishment doesn't want! Vote Brexit!

Make your vote count is pretty difficult when there is only one name on the ballot paper.

    From The Slog today:

In an astonishing drift towards Soviet democracy, 300 council seats in England have been guaranteed for one party or individual before a single ballot has been cast, weeks before the May 2nd polling day.

The closed shop of shoo-in candidates affects around 850,000 voters across Britain. 150 councillors will win their seats without a single vote being cast. In these wards the candidates are running uncontested meaning these candidates ‘win’ their seats automatically. And Parties or independent candidates have also been guaranteed an additional 152 seats, as multi-member wards go ‘under-contested’ – i.e. where a lack of competition means that at least 1 seat in the ward is guaranteed for a particular party or independent candidate.

The scandal of 21st century Rotten Boroughs has come to light thanks to painstaking research carried out by the Electoral Reform Society (ERS). And the most telling statistic is this one:

While the Conservative Party will get 137 of these undercontested seats, Labour will get just 2 (two)

This is because the Labour Party accepts that, in many Wards, FPTP (first past the post) leaves them with no chance of winning. Yet they appear not to be worried about giving their supporters zero choice at local level. In fact, from the Leader downwards, they oppose any move away from FPTP. How curious that a Party so often using “democracy” as its watchword should be so unconcerned about a lack of it.

Make your vote count is pretty difficult when there is only one name on the ballot paper.

I'm very happy with FPTP. You get a most popular winner in an area. We had a vote on this recently. We decided to retain FPTP.

But Roger I seem to recall you were not voting - now you expect the elected person to call on you - bit rich isn't it?

I never voted. Correct. I never fancied any of the Candidates and I was physically unable to vote anyway due to the fact that I was travelling. I don't do Postal voting. I think it's a valid viewpoint that new Councillors need to nurture a future vote.

  15. Kath can always call on my door if she is interested in my view, or indeed, her new Ward. She can leave a card if I'm not in. In this Brexit phase I am after engagement. Disappearing for a few years from my doorstep, after she got voted in, would never get my vote in the future. I am totally aware, of course, that she has no influence over Brexit. I am very influenced in how much she wants to engage with the people she is representing. She got 374 votes so she needs to engage with expectations. My email is roger.lfc@gmail.com Over to her!

  16. Brian Wilcox has disappeared from the major prize for the College Ward but is still going to pop up as a Parish Ward Councillor. I noticed as it's where I live! I will now have to pay attention to the activities of Kath Hey. It's like Musical Chairs around here! I'm sure Kath Hey has been a Councillor before! Probably up until the other day! How committed is she to my Ward tho? She preferred to represent a different Ward last time! #PoliticalParachutes

Nothing really but if the candidates mindset is for remaining in the EU then I just don’t feel that I can vote for them.As silly as that might sound to you Tom it all boils down to my lost faith/trust in politicians after witnessing the last six months of the Brexit debacle.

but having looked at the candidates I don’t believe that the con trickster has a cat in hells chance of getting in...my money would be on Sharon Michael as she is the standing being run closely by Diane Toynbee with the Lib Dem,Stephen Williams as a dark horse possible?

if I do change my mind then I guess I will vote for Sharon Michael

If you are a Lib Dem you are backing a Party that does not respect the Brexit vote! Just a plain and simple fact!

I think I have spoken to more people that have said they are not voting than ones that are voting. I will vote purely and simply in an attempt to get the Cons out of Hereford - time for a change. I will never forgive them for selling the Council farms and many other sins they have committed.

Cambo the likes of John Harrington have put so much effort into this campaign and by not voting you are giving your vote to the Cons. With this apathy we are going to get the Cons back in!

Think more local than national at this present moment in time!

Having preached about voting I will  definitely not be voting in the EU elections

'Having preached about voting I will  definitely not be voting in the EU elections' ~ obvious hypocrisy! In the EU Elections you should be voting for the 'Leave' candidate (Brexit Party) if you want to leave the EU. If you want to 'remain' then you have a wide choice. Labour/Tory/LibDem ..... ;-)

I wasn't in but Wilcox knocked at our door spoke to my partner. He also spoke about the bypass to her , changed subject to bypass from what she wanted to talk about. I wish I had been here to let him know his precious bypass is only going ahead due to the parcels of development land coming available when it goes ahead thus more earnings for local council. No use talking about Brexit as it is a national disaster not a local one even so I would have let him know his party are not fit for purpose .

I spoke to Brian about Brexit as it was on my mind. Not a local issue at all. He wanted to promote the house building at Kings Acre. Which is nothing to do with the foot long grass already evident in his Ward! Neglected! Rather like the Blueschool Street budget! Luckily I have denied myself an opportunity to vote! I never do postal voting and can't make the polling station for the vote ~ I'll be on a bus returning from Gatwick Airport ~ having obviously been in Barcelona!

What was his defence of the Blueschool Street overspend fiasco or did he hide behind some spurious excuse?

He was very 'Political' in his exchange. Entirely pleasant. But devoid of substance. Other than his support for the pseudo 'relief' bypass which is really an access road for a shed load of houses that will clog up the City even more. My ears were virtually turned off anyway. He was back in my street last night (Wednesday). Trying to catch, I suppose, people who never answered the door last time he did his 'foray' into the small area he represents ..... I'm sure he drags himself out very reluctantly to try and get his votes'. But he is up against people who are toxic (UKIP + Labour) or unknowns. So he will cruise in again I think.
