  1. So Jeremy Corbyn cuts short his holiday to visit and actually talk to the people in Port Talbot - can't knock him for that can you

    Nope ... You can't ....

Sajid Javid MP (Govt. Cabinet guy for Business) seems to have had his hand forced and he's ditching his holiday in Australia to return .... Dunno why he was there when this steel stuff was rumbling around when he left!

The Environment Agency boss had to resign recently when he tried to manage the recent flooding crisis from a beach in Barbados so there is a recent precedent of what happens if you are perceived to be in the wrong place if it's going on under your watch ...

  2. I drove past at 12.20 today and the car park was absolutely rammed with cars. Practically full. I didn't drive in to see if the meters were active ~ but they were visible and did not appeared covered. Perhaps someone who has been recently might know? There were zero cars parked on the actual main road/verges but there is Highway activity with works/cones and all the lay-by's are not in use. The kids' are off school so that will account for extra activity maybe ...

  3. The Polish Night next weekend is being hosted by our Cllr and member Jim Kenyon and as we will be attending, I thought I would give that a plug too.  :Happy_32:

Can't make it sorry. Attending LFC v Spurs ..... Drinks in an unknown pub after the game win/lose/draw. But have a good night!

  4. Water in Belmont when you pour it into a glass is not completely clear if I am honest you have to run the tap for a moment before it clears.

Is this in the morning after a period of non use? Sediment will 'settle' in a water system until it gets flushed out by a sudden rush.

  5. I saw that news item on the Council website Denise. It's here

I couldn't believe the wording. The Council were celebrating that the Company that have the contract for the job have managed to avoid the work by getting the locals to do it for free. Bizarre!

The great rubbish revolt: Herefordshire residents take to the streets - On behalf of Balfour Beatty Living Places

Meanwhile the bin was full at Churchill Gardens car park this morning .... Not overflowing yet but full ...

  6. The junction is signed as in this photo from google ....

The junction is just behind the van on the right. I don't think there's any reason an alert driver wouldn't see a stationary vehicle waiting to turn right but a 'protected' right turn filter would certainly improve things.

There are precedents for safety improvements on the A49 after accidents. When Brimfield bypass was built (1983) there was no protected right turn for vehicles approaching from the south who were turning right into the village. Then, about 25 years ago, a stationary car was waiting to turn right and it was squashed flat by a lorry approaching from behind. The driver was killed. I remember it because I went to the incident. A protected right turn was then built. As per the photo below.

  7. I have no idea what Welsh Water is doing at Barrs court road, but I do not think it will make a difference to the water.

There is a topic on this site about that. From what I've seen personally it is about installing more reliable and less leaky pipes to deliver the actual water to the Aylestone area. Work is currently happening around the SEN school (and Bryngwyn Close).

  8. I think Hereford is too small and isolated to really benefit (if at all) from what Jesse was saying there. There's also a drive to get a 'Northern PowerHouse' in a bigger and better position than it is now. Plus HS3 .... Any limited Culture cash would be wasted here as Hereford is too hard to get to.

  9. This woman had full sex with the boy and also oral sex. Admitted by her. I think the footballer admitted kissing but denied finger penetration but was convicted of that.

If you transport yourself from the real world and treat the situations totally on a level playing field (which is not the media version) then it looks like different sentencing standards are being applied.

My personal view is that Johnson got a longer sentence because he was a high profile footballer. There was a media frenzy and a line in the sand was being drawn as a deterrent.

I think 6 years is too long a sentence when you compare it to other similar cases where the sentence was not six years.

  10. I'd sooner focus on the fact that vast swathes of people from various Countries are trying to get to an area where the lucrative benefit cap will give them untold riches compared to where they came from. Of course .... they may have to change provider for their smart phone after they got out of the back of the lorry tho!

People are moaning on the websites that the Tories hate disabled people ..... That does not even register on the radar of people trying to get here ....

  11. I am sure they are quite happy with that arrangement. I can understand Poland's stance on this issue and I too agree it is their country and good to see that they are putting their citizens safety before anything else.

Exactly. There's no economic reason to go to Poland. Everyone swerves Poland. Which highlights that this whole crisis is an 'economic' one. The people who got bombed woke up and smelled the coffee that they could take their smart phone's across half of Europe to get a better standard of living. Obviously several thousand kids' got dragged into this new system and they would not have known much, if anything, about the process. Which is very sad and disturbing.

I would be interested to see if some posters on this site welcome the lorry load of  people in Kent today ..... ? Escaping persecution and seeking refuge from bombs and terror is their explanation usually ....

  12. But they can still refuse to allow people into their country

Poland is part of the Schengen area so they have to let in ground migrants from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany. Those are EU rules subject to any temporary suspensions of border controls There won't be many people rushing to Poland tho as the wages are fairly rubbish.

  13. I think Colin was referring to Poland refusing being dictated to with regard to what their refugee quota should be as laid out by Brussels or Angela Merkel,

That's a bit of crap they won't like ~ which they might have to accept. You got to take the rough with the smooth tho! On balance Poland needs the EU far more than the EU needs Poland so they won't be having a referendum to leave anytime soon!

  14. Saw that earlier. The adult types all clambered out and started using their smart phones and were lighting up cigarettes .... Hardly destitute ...  Our border is a sieve .... We need to seal it with a brexit ....

By the way .... That photo is very striking with 26 stuffed in the back  ..... But we had a lorry drop off in Hereford very recently and 18 or so piled out. No photo for that but just use your imagination ...

  15. To be fair they don't take crap from Brussels in my experience and neither should we.

Poland joined the EU and almost immediately got free money. £56 billion which they used to build infrastructure. The 2014 - 2020 budget from the EU for Poland is £60 billion. Massive subsidies for farming and the EU has enabled them to have a massive upsurge in Exports. In fact above my head is a 'velux' skylight that was made in Poland. They are not getting crap from anyone as the pot of money is being redistributed to the Countries in need and they are a recipient.
