  1. This is tragic news for Christians family and loved ones.

It's a terrible event that has taken place, and hopefully those responsible will be found and brought to justice swiftly.

However, I don't believe that CCTV along GWW would have done anything to prevent this from happening, admittedly there is an increased likelihood of identification, but judging by some of the blurred and grainy images that are released at times, would a positive identification even be possible?

I may be wrong, but to me this seems unlikely to have been a random attack, and far more likely to have been a disagreement that escalated out of control leading to the awful conclusion that we are now all reading and talking about.

I just hope that people don't become too scared to go about their daily routines because of what has happened.

Hereford is essentially a very safe place to live still and people must try to remember this at this difficult time.

    RIP Young man.

The new type of CCTV is HD format so much clearer images are obtainable.

  2. This is still happening, I reported a Blueline cab for refusing a trip for a young lady from commercial road to the stagecoach. The council need to keep acting on this and the taxi firms need to keep putting pressure on the drivers to stop this practice.

Is there anyway you can get the taxi number or vehicle concerned? I use taxis often and I will just boycott the ones named and shamed and I will be more than happy to tell them they are losing business over it. There was a rape on the Castle Green only this week apparently so this really needs sorting out, maybe she was refused a taxi, the council would show interest then I'm sure!

  3. There was a lot of good in some of his posts but I did not like they way he often conducts himself if people have a difference view, I noticed this a few times, but I do think he had a certain amount of negativity about him and a lot of it was nothing to do with Hereford. So have you banned him?

  4. Thank you Glenda, you have served your constituents well over the years and nobody can fault your commitment. I share the opinion the Mr Edwards has let his party down as well as himself, I honestly thought he was a better person than this, my views have changed now.

  5. I am quite shocked that he stood against another independent, I do not believe he had the best interest of the party in mind when he made that decision more of a personal goal, unwise move because it has cost his party in the long run. It does however confirm to me what others have said about him.  :Hmm:

All done in very poor taste, he is out of order imo. I thought 2for1 deals where for supermarkets.

  6. Amazing photos, Colin.

How come you always seem to be in the right place, at the right time, to capture these moments???

Really good photographs, I was stood watching myself only yesterday, ended up watching for an hour. There is something addictive to watching the crunching machine slowly take this old building down pice by piece, there is certainly a bit of an art to it.

  7. The original Facebook link has now been removed - someone will be threatening to sue Colin next!

jeanharris - the dog owner is in touch with the RSPCA.

I'm sure knowing Colin he will be shaking in his boots.  :Winky:  Surely striking any animal by using a vehicle as a weapon is animal cruelty! Bloke needs shooting himself. So are we supposed to believe that 16 dogs have all wondered into this Vikings field, worrying his sheep and all met their fete with the barrel of a gun?

  8. It's cheaper fuel so the traffic is going to be horrendous, also the lights coming out of Asda only let a couple of cars out at a time.Imagine what the queues would be like they would need to change the road layout.

I don't agree, people will not be flocking here to save a penny or two, like Tesco and Sainsbury's it will just be traffic that is already passing by or Asda customers will use it for convenience. You may get the odd extra car but I would think it will make no difference, in fact in may encourage the Ha to sort out that appalling cockup of a junction! Turn it back into a proper roundabout!

  9. Morning Colin!

Joking aside about the position of this sign, it could well have been placed there by an enthusiastic supporter.

That said, if it has Phil Edwards name on it, I guess he has to take the ultimate responsibility for where it is placed. Ditto Lucy Hurds.

After all, surely all councillors/prospective councillors should be aware of the rule surrounding this??

If they can't get to grips with this sort of thing pre-election, it doesn't instil much confidence that they will be able to get to grips with the issues they'll be facing post election.

There are VERY STRICT RULES for elections. I cannot see how Phil Edwards managed to get permission for the Oval loo's because they cannot find the owner! He was seen putting the sign up with his ladder, no excuses there.

  10. Hmm, I am all for promoting cycling but until we have alternative river crossings, I think reducing the A49 to one lane would not be good, hence this topic (which I want to get back too) on the use of Trams along the GWW, this would take a substantial amount of local traffic off these contested roads, maybe then we can look at implementing cycle lanes but right now I cannot see how this would work efficiently for all the road users. We need another river crossing!

I agree with Colin, until such times as we have another river crossing cycle lanes would in my opinion make the situation worse, reducing two lanes into one lane will just make the queues even longer. This tram suggestion is the best idea I have heard for many years and the council should embrace this now! Good interview on Free Radio this morning, they have been playing bits all morning.

  11. Welcome jeanharris and mikefitz its is nice to see new members. You are only seeing these posts because the election is upon us, in fairness there are quite a few councillors registered some are a lot more active than others. There are lots of debates if you click on the navigation button and the top and read thru the various forums.

  12. These trams come in lots of shapes and sizes;

The last tram is these photo's is not too big and I have seen some a little smaller too, but non of these are massive in size to be fair, something modern with advertising wraps would be good if it helps towards costs. Trams are a very cost effective form of transport and are becoming more and more popular as traffic congestion continues to grow.

This is a nice refreshing project and I am in full support. We would need to look at costs obviously but I think if your going to do it then lets do it properly! Don't mess around with little people cars a proper tram system is what is required, it works in cities all across Europe big and small and there is no reason why it could not work here. This council is spending millions on new offices and so called relief roads, this would be a fraction of any of those costs and a massive benefit to the city. Modern trams like the ones in the photographs at the start of this debate are very eco friendly and silent too. They are made with lightweight materials but can also carry mobility scooters in the back carriage giving easy access for disabled people too. I am pleased to see such a positive response, lets keep it that way and get this off the ground. I like Cllr. Chappell's idea of approaching Bulmers as sponsors and the exhibition idea is sensible one too.

I am with Victor on this one, if this eventually gets the go ahead then let's have a proper system and not some half hearted cheap shed on wheels alternative. It does not look like Hereford is going to get a bypass anytime in the next 10 years or more so at least this idea would help take a lot of the traffic from the roads.

  13. Yep - well we would need a feasibility study in any event.  The PPM travels at speeds between 5mph and 25mph and is designed for town and city centres including through covered shopping malls.  It works best in short loops with a central interchange for example between the station and city centre.  If it travelled straight through Commercial Street and High Town or down Blueschool Street and into WIdemarsh Street and then High Town, it would breathe new life into that area of the city particularly if High Town was opened up to cyclists (with designated paths of course - I don't go in for this shared space stuff in areas of high pedestrian/vehicle conflict).

Yes the PPM would be ideal for in the town centre itself but I think a tram would be ideal in this instance.
