  1. If you need to form a 'residents association' then my brain tells me that the Councillor is on some sort of mission (probably to get re - elected) or that there is a problem festering.

Why does every thing you say have to be so negative! David has not long been elected, maybe the guy want to just do something for his constituents, personally this is what the area needs, so good effort on the councillors part.

  2. A lot of that area was cleared today. A few large tree's were removed in order to let in much needed light. Most of the clearing was actually large bushes or young branches on trees.

Good to see all this positive work happening along the gww, it has become so overgrown, i'm sure you guys could spend a whole week there just clearing and cutting back. This is really all very good.

  3. I do understand how much things cost to run, my brother organised a few music festivals in Hereford and hiring loos, generators, lighting, security, it all cost money and that don't include the bands, stage, PA system . But people did not want to pay, trying to get in free of charge and people complaining about the noise, sounds about the norm in Hereford to be honest.

I do not agree with your comments above, in my experience people do not mind paying for this sort of thing as long as they feel that they are getting value for money and what is advertised, in this case they got neither! It has nothing to do with Hereford people because people would be just as annoyed from Leeds I can assure you.

  4. How long should it remain empty? The Council types read this Forum and I would have at least expected a gentle prod in the owners direction. Not a Council House but we need this sorting out.

This is a privately owned house from my understanding, so I suppose if they decide they want it left empty then they can, however, the owners should keep the property in order. As it stands this is a health hazard and needs clearing up, if the council end up sorting the mess then the owner should foot the costs.

  5. I am not on here to defend the Council. It is not their event. Why should they regulate how an outside event operates? They lease out the coffee stalls in High Town and don't tell them what they can charge for drinks and they lease Edgar St to HFC and don't tell them how much they should charge to enter the ground.

That said I agree that the whole enterprise appears to be pretty shoddy.

AV the King George playing field, this is public land is it not? How can council allow them to just fence off an area then charge people to enter that area?

  6. I just read this article:

This is the standard argument presented, more even by women than by men, in the Arab world, where strict patriarchal traditions continue to hold female victims responsible for crimes against them by men. If a woman is sexually harassed, then she must have been dressed provocatively. If raped, she somehow must have put herself in a compromising position. If pregnant out of wedlock, her conduct is to blame. And if she is murdered, then she must have committed an even more abhorrent crime.

  7. True Rebecca but there are times that I think we have reverted back to a time far earlier than "Ripper Street" days. I know they are only music videos but the majority of those shown on MTV these days have 'the tune itself, scantily clad good looking girls and men with their tops off!

In getting their video across they cross many a line in relation to attitudes and expectation the messages of which can be misinterpreted by many.

Around our city urban rail or bus networks it would not even be an option for a woman travelling on her own late at night....you would seek alternative arrangements.

I can't believe you just wrote that tbh. The next step after separate carriages is 'Hey let's all suggest the women cover themselves up from head to toe so the poor men who can't control their behaviour can get through their day without getting arrested!

  8. Times have changed and if you visit most European countries you will find large supermarkets and retailers open on Sundays, to be honest its more of an inconvenience when they are closed sometimes. I went to Asda a few weeks ago forgetting it was Sunday and it was not until I got there I realised lol. (I did moan to myself)

  9. Mick- as I said in my post above,  the Hunderton Bridge, the bridge in the photo above, it is my understanding from the police the young man was stabbed as he came under the bridge, and then again in Hunderton itself.

ragwert- I agree, it was not so long ago the police CSO's were given i-pads to enable them to stay on the beat, and not sit in offices writing out their reports, that said I have not seen either police officers or CSO's walking around for months, but they are not in the South Wye Police station either. They share the police station with the ambulance service now, and you see the paramedics there more than the police. I remember attending the South Wye police station opening possibly in 2003/4 at a cost of I believe £384,000 what a waste of money!

So a camera on the lines would not of seen activity under the bridge? So do you know where they are going to be installing the new CCTV Glenda?

  10. This is unacceptable, 18 months ago whilst I was a councillor for the Belmont ward I approached the Police Commissioner Mr Longmore as he was giving out money for CCTV cameras to be installed across West Mercia area. It took until last November for me to get the money for the camera installation, I worked with the staff of the city CCTV dept and together we approached Hereford City council for a grant to pay for the first years running costs, in February the grant was awarded. I asked for the camera to be installed on the Hunderton bridge straight away but was told the camera would not be installed until September. I told the council this was not good enough right up to April this year, the people of Hunderton also got up a petition for the camera to be installed, instead there was a fatal stabbing in June and now another stabbing has occured this weekend. If they had installed the camera when I asked them to one young man would not have lost his life, and avoided the other stabbing. How many more people have got to be stabbed before this camera is installed!!!

Sadly I'm not sure the young man would still be alive had one camera of been on the GWW because from my understanding he was attacked from behind somewhere in Hunderton and not on the lines, nevertheless, it may of shed light on who was in the area at the time. So the first camera is to be installed next month, at what location on the GWW Glenda?

  11. This is a good debate, I have just read this article and it makes complete sense to me and I am overweight.

An economics scholar in Norway has recommended that air ticket costs be calculated according to a passenger’s weight.

Dr. Bharat P. Bhatta, associate professor of economics at Sogn og Fjordane University College, Norway, is proposing three models that he says, “may provide significant benefits to airlines, passengers and society at large.â€

In his paper, published in the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management, Dr. Bhatta noted “a reduction of 1 kilo weight of a plane will result in fuel savings worth US$3,000 a year and a reduction of CO2 emissions by the same token.â€

    check-in-airport-richard-bouhet_afp_gettWeighing in.

“Charging according to weight and space is a universally accepted principle, not only in transportation, but also in other services," Bhatta says. "As weight and space are far more important in aviation than other modes of transport, airlines should take this into account when pricing their tickets.â€

His three “pay as you weigh†models are:

Total weight: A passenger’s luggage and body weight is calculated, with the fare comprising a per kilo cost. In this scenario a passenger weighing 100 kilos with 20 kilos of luggage (120 kilos total) would pay twice that of a passenger of 50 kilos with 10 kilos of luggage (60 kilos total).

Base fare +/- extra: A base fare is set, with a per-kilo discount applying for “underweight†passengers and a per-kilo surcharge applying to “overweight†passengers.

High/Average/Low: A base fare is set, with a predetermined discount applying for those below a certain weight threshold and a predetermined surcharge applying for those above a certain weight threshold.

Bhatta prefers the third of these options. He goes on to say that weight could be ascertained through passenger self-declaration, with one in five passengers randomly selected and weighed to dissuade cheats (with penalties for cheaters) or by weighing all passengers at check in.

  12. I dont know them by name and perhaps thats bad of me.

Mostly they are pleasant and appear happy people who have obviously been dealt a bad hand.

I got speaking to one old boy and he is ex military, I was too embarrassed to ask how he ended up in this situation, but there are around 6-8 that are in the doorways along Commercial Road of a night time.

Sorry Paul for the thread jack - not intentional, but its just another thing that needs sorting in our beautiful city.

Yes I went and bought the one old chap a coffee the other month, I felt so bad for the man, he was very grateful and could not thank me enough.  On the flip side I have little time for some of the others mind.

  13. So can someone please clarify because I am a little confused, the house was left in a will to a young lady who lived there for a while then just abandoned it? Why would you not sell it and have at least £100k? Even in its current state it would fetch £80k +. Can the council not force action against the owner or force a sale?

I was thinking the same thing, surely this can be resolved for the sake of the immediate people living either side. If any of these people own their property this eyesore next door must have had an impact on the value of their homes?
