  1. Why don't they have some kind of tracking device.  A £100 smartphone can be tracked - surely when you have something costing as much as a landrover a device could be fitted in a place that thieves couldn't immediately get at.  Especially when they are being targeted.

Quite a few top of the range cars have a device called Tracker fitted within the vehicle - believe that some police vehicle have receivers which can receive signals when the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Tracker company and the tracker is activated.

  2. Earlier this year a neighbour of mine , about 500m away down the lane heard cries of help at about 3am. Went to investigate and found a man trapped under his landrover, the rear wheel had been removed , the neighbour and his som managed to lift the L/ R enough to free the trapped man . The neighbour then drove this person to hospital - when he was telling me later that day if he told the police he replied no ! Why I said , he replied that the apparent thief had received his punishment .

Thinking that the police should be made aware I emailed them with the sketchy details I had been told including the fact that the person had been taken to hospital . Told my neighbour what I had done - to date the neighbour has had no contact with the police - I presume because he didn't report it himself , and it keeps the crime figures down .

  3. Thank you Denise.

Re fleas - to reassure you and others Hedgehog fleas only stay on hedgehogs - Mrs U uses Johnstones Flea powder for small animals. She puts the hog on a white piece of paper , scatters the powder onto the hog and watch , with pleasure , the fleas drop off the hog - dead . Simple .

  4. Slim and gdj comments passed on to Mrs U. Thank you .

Slim , at the moment it's all good here - Mrs U hog account is in credit , the finders of hogs have been very generous this year - she also had a donation from our local school PTA . To help funding she is doing a couple of talks to organisations and has had a stall at fetes etc. As an aside she purchased 78 cans of Pedigree Loaf dog food just in August so you can understand that there is a cost implication . But as I said earlier the hog account is in credit .

She may make an appeal for newspaper later in the year.

If anybody with young children would like to visit the setup here and see hedgehogs of all different sizes and mannerisms please phone and it can be arranged .

Re hedgehogs and road planning , believe than hogs come very low down the food chain, adult hogs can cover about 2000m a night. It's good for gardens to have low holes in the fences so that the hog can move around easily.

  5. This little hog , now called Nipper ( because he had teeth and nips ! ) came in on 1st Aug weighing 77gms now weighs in at 150 gms . Mrs U will care for him until he weighs in at about 650 gms ,he will then be passed to a foster carer for release in their hedgehog friendly garden.post-862-0-61514400-1441129238_thumb.jpg

  6. There was a hegehog in my garden the other night, it activated the security light it disappeared under a large bush, when I went to look for it it had gone. There is always fresh water in my garden because of the birds, both at low level for them to bathe in and other in their water bottles. I have not seen it since.

That's super , it's good that they have access to water , hopefully they are fattening themselves up ready for winter , Mrs U has 14 hogs at the moment , their weight range is from 80 gms through to over 600gms . She likes to release them at about 650gms, ( 850 gms in Auturm ) .

In fact the heaviest two are being collected on Friday to be released in Longtown , these two were brought in on July 7th. after being found in a Cattle Grid at Longtown . The finder has now made the Cattle Grid hedgehog friendly.

  7. Mrs U has a Facebook page - Hollycroft Hedgehog Rescue with details of some of the hogs she has rescued. She had promised to update the page every week with what's happened over the previous 7 days.

  8. Some of you will know that Mrs U runs a Hedgehog Rescue from our home in Tillington.

Over the last couple of weeks it has become very apparent that finders of hedgehogs are not sure what to do if they see one out in the day so this is what she would like you to do please.

If you find a small hedgehog, or one lying out in the day.. DON'T IGNORE IT.. IT NEEDS HELP NOW! not tomorrow. ( Hedgehogs do not sunbathe )

Do not leave it to see if it will go away.

Do not stick it under a hedge.

Pick it up, put it in a DEEP box or carrier with towels or an old fleece jumper,

    KEEP IT WARM and quiet.

Call a Hedgehog Rescue immediately . Of course if it appears injured please take it to a Vet , there should be no charge and once treated they will pass the 'hog onto a Hedgehog Rescue.

Please do not give it anything to eat until you have spoken to somebody, you can offer it a shallow bowl of water only.

Please remember these hedgehogs DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME.

  9. I also agree with the proposed extended hours .

I went to the same Garden Centre as Green Knight last Monday , picked up a packet of potash and thought that a coffee and a cake would be very nice , sadly the Coffee Shop was still being sorted out after Saturday and Sunday's storm.

  10. Just driven along Three Elms Rd. and noticed that there is a very big digger in the field between the school and Hunterton Lane .This digger has dug a number of trenches at various locations within the field , at a rough estimate 20m long by 1.5 m wide . Appears to be at least 7 trenches . Number of men wearing hard hats and hi.vis jackets wandering around the trenches .

I know nothing about digging trenches with a digger , my experience stops at shovels ! I just guess that it's all connected with the flood plain .

  11. As he lives in Ross have "they" allowed him to use only the Ross Morrisons ? I accept that other than using the Internet he may have to travel to Sports Direct shop OR purchase all his shopping , groceries , clothing etc via the Internet .

By ordering that he only shopped on the Internet the Magistrates could have banned him from every shop in the Country - simple !

  12. It's getting serious - all over his " man bag ! "

A passenger on an Easyjet aircraft at Gatwick Airport has been Tasered by police shortly before it was due to take off for Belfast.

Officers boarded the plane shortly after 08:00 BST following reports a passenger had become abusive in an argument over luggage.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace and is in custody, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

Witness statements are being taken from passengers and crew aboard the plane.

    'Man purse'

In a statement, Easyjet said police were called to the aircraft "due to a passenger behaving disruptively".

Niall Copeland tweeted: "Man getting arrested on @easyJet flight home to #Belfast because he wants 2 pieces of hand luggage!"

He then posted: "All because he was insistent of wearing his man purse."

  13. Maybe off post slightly , but I do take advantage of parking at Morrisons when I visit a nearby location. After I have finished at the nearby location I go into Morrisons and purchase goods to the value of £5.01.

What I am surprised about is the fact that the shopping trolleys are free of charge - this means that trolleys are scatted all over the car park . OK it employes somebody to collect them but surely it's better for the shopper to park them in the trolley park.

I also think that at a stroke they could do away with free carrier bags and the money they receive for carrier bags ( 5p) could be used locally at a well deserving local charity . Just amazes me to see trolleys packed with food in the supermarkets carrier bags.

  14. I will put my cards on the table and say that I am a supporter of the Royal Family -I would hate to see Blair ,Cameron or Balls etc voted in as President of this Country.

I agree fully that there are a number of minor Royals that should consider their position. " The don't you know who I am " syndrome must change .

  15. The only way for one of the others will win the Labour Leader election is for two of the three to step down and just one of them stands against Corbyn - then it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall if they thought that was a good idea to hear the discussions to decide who would stand ,

Am I bothered or worried or stressed - No , I just love the infighting , not just from Labour - love the niggle from all the Political Parties .

    Gridknocker - good topic .

  16. For a Council Officer to apologise is as rare as hens teeth so well done Mr Brain. Hopefully his apology and statement will go somewhere to help the parents of the children who attend 1 Ledbury Rd.

I accept that it's a very unsettling time for the parents , I sincerely hope that the decision made is the correct decision for the well being of the child and after the decision is made there is amply support for the parents .

I And Mrs U are so thankful that we have never been in the position of these parents , We know that they love their child/ children but it must be so stressful and worrying for the future.

    We wish you all well

A LEADING council director has apologised for the way families found out about the earmarked closure of a children's respite centre.

In a letter to those affected by the controversial changes planned for No 1 Ledbury Road in Hereford, Chris Baird, Herefordshire Council's assistant director for education and commissioning, said the centre wouldn't close until all families had been provided with an alternative.

No 1 provides respite care for children and young people with complex health needs.

Its closure, set to take place next March, has been met with fierce objection from parents who say they haven't been consulted. They say a community foster service plan drawn up to replace No 1 won't work.

As previously reported by the Hereford Times, the council, Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the Wye Valley NHS Trust have jointly agreed the centre doesn't fit in with their fostering idea.

In the letter, sent out to affected parents this week, Mr Baird apologised for the way they found out.
