I've just spoken to someone on the phone. They needed to get out beyond Belmont Tesco from Aylestone. They went via the Blind College, Roman Road, Three Elms Road, Wordsworth Road (as Whitecross Road was gridlocked), past the Cemetary then right over the Bridge. Took them 40 minutes ...

Ian Davies, the afternoon Sunshine Radio DJ, left the Rotherwas area at 1 PM and after 47 minutes he tweeted that he had still not reached the Broad Street studio for his 2 PM show ... Just about to find out if he got in ... :-S

I did say in my Letter to the HT that we could follow what they were doing in Wales which is to supply caddies for food waste 

A food 'caddie' is just a fancy way to describe a slop bucket ...

If that is full of rancid food that is starting to stink it certainly wouldn't be in my kitchen. It would be down the side or out the back. They're typically quite small and low down so obviously will be attractive to the rats'. These urban ones are getting up to two feet long now ...

The CPS are very quick to NAME people who are accused, such as Bill Roache, Rolf Harris, Michael Le Vell, Freddie Starr, Dave Lee Travis, Jimmy Tarbuck, & Jim Davidson, I could go on! But protect their own eh...

Jim Davidson was arrested twice and he was all over the papers. He ended up not being charged with anything. Freddie Starr was all over the papers and he's still on Police bail more than a year after being arrested. No charges yet ~if ever! 

All seems a bit hit and miss this naming of people unless someone is charged and taken to court. 

I don't think the WMP is deliberately trying to be over secretive and indeed fairly recently two of their Herefordshire staff (separate cases) were charged with stuff and their details publicised. Cases ongoing.

I certainly don't rate the WMP press office though. And I'm not alone there! 

You can polish a turd all day long and it will still be a turd ... I'm sceptical of all this! ;-) 

I'd love to live in a parallel World where everything was fixed for free! On second thoughts ... ;-) 

roger and ubique I thank you for your reply, it seems I have a lot to learn about the local press, and their thinking, and one must ask, when if this did happen, why isn't the local police issuing a statement. it seems everything round here is very hush hush secret squirrel etc etc.???

I was one of the Hereford City Centre Police Constables until 2009 .... I think I did it for 11 years .... Hope this clears your confusion up! Obviously 5 years out of the loop but not entirely daft! :-) 

I know both persons concerned. So I will express my status straight away. But I think this manner of laundry washing is unhelpful ...

That's if the story has the comments section activated for a story. Very often it hasn't got one. I can understand various subjects being closed for comment (we know the ones) but sometimes stuff that is particularly innocuous or non controversial for libel purposes is given the same treatment.

As for not sniffing out or chasing potential stories pro actively then maybe they haven't got the budget to do it? But the Eign Gate Shipley's thing deserved a better response than what was given.

as a new member to this site, can I please ask a question does any one have any ideas why the HT haven't picked up on this story, if it was in other parts of country it would be national headlines, look at oxford recently I believe, and Blackburn. i'm confused ??

I think the HT generally just cut and paste from the WMP website about crime related issues. If this 'story' has not been on there then they won't have anything to go on ... 

Grass cutting and litter pick up will decrease, flower beds will cease to be maintained.

This is probably why I nearly lost my dog in Churchill Gardens this afternoon. It disappeared in the long grass. It was part cut a couple of weeks ago and BB then lost interest ~ half a job done and that's being generous. Unless people live under a stone they will have noticed that the slightly warmer weather has caused the grass to spurt in growth. So it all needs doing again.

I've no doubt some 'ring fenced' pet areas will get the favoured Council service tho. Like grass being cut and collected as opposed to the 'cut and leave it there' approach for large swathes of the City.

It's all well and good saying the Govt. austerity cuts have caused all this but when the Council Management are on these mega salaries then it aint gonna wash I'm afraid!

So what remains inside that scaffolding can't be bulldozed as it's in a conservation area. The current owners don't want to rebuild as it's a dead duck in a redundant area. And the Council don't want to do a Compulsory Purchase as they will be lumbered with a white elephant that someone else currently owns. At great expense to everyone.

This sounds like it will go on for years! 

Sorry to have to post this but the locals are quite prepared to go and pay £20k to go and watch a Comedy act at the drop of a hat ..... but are not prepared to attend 100 yards away at the football ground .... This is still just papering over some cracks in my opinion ... 

From post 14 there is a also a big problem for people in the accommodation when the housing benefit stops for one reason or another, due to the inflated excessive rents charged to these vulnerable people.

#22 was by me. Benefit cap is £2000 per month per couple. So £800 rent still leaves £1200 to kick the arse out of the system.

 

Phil ... I am not having a go at confrontation! I think it's good! Just look at the Hillsborough situation! Massive confrontation with the Establishment! New Inquests currently ongoing! Establishment was put in a corner and the shabby situation was exposed. But this cannot be done as a 'one man band' operation! You obviously realise this by setting up some sort of pressure group.

From an unbiased perspective (I live north of the river and I do not claim any sort of benefit of any description) I feel you come across as very confrontational Phil. 

You have an agenda which I perceive is a good one. ie to help vulnerable or disadvantaged people. But to pick a fight with everyone and find fault with every explanation is never going to get very far. Your tone, as expressed on this site, is not good.

I think the Housing people trying to wring every last penny out of rent for slum properties is pretty ruthless myself. But a couple being charged £800 a month for a slum is not really relevant to them if it's me picking the bill up with the other taxpayers via Housing Benefit! It could be £3 a month, £300 a month, or £3000 a month to them as it's a purely notional figure to them. It's not notional to me tho! ;-)

The fire was in October 2010. So 3 1/2 years ago. As I recall the fire was identified as an electrical fault early on (and not suspicious) and if the relevant insurance policies are in place I can't really see what the issues are with reinstating the various premises as they were subject to any conservation requirements.

There will probably be a problem in re-occupying the premises tho. As soon (or rather if) they get repaired then they will probably remain empty. 

But the point about the scaffolding is valid tho. Just a Blott on the Landscape. 

On a similar point how long is that huge scaffolding pile going to be behind Jacobs Court? At the rear next to Yates in Commercial Road. Total eyesore. Must have been there two years! 

My gut feeling is that this is not a good choice. I think a maintenance regime will be required with wood .... All well and good if effort is made .... we'll see ... I don't like the look of it tho. Just my view!

I would have thought perhaps the King Street/Bridge Street area of the city was more in need of a cash point, I don't think there are any along there!

I am just pleased it doesn't charge.....it infuriates me that the cash point at the garage on White cross Road charges £1.99, to take out my OWN money!

How anyone could argue for a free cashpoint on King Street is beyond me! There is a free one at the end of Broad St. ! Whitecross is also mainly residential. I don't think the general population would expect to have a raft of machines in side streets. Plus ... Anyone ordinarily using a 'fee' machine needs their head read .... 

How many current 'contract' players' will be there next season? Probably none? So what is being saved is a name/ground/league position. It's looking at the moment that all the efforts are just propping up the HMRC coffers ... 

I won't be attending ... I've never heard of either of those candidates ... Plus lumping in Herefordshire within the West Midlands is never going to go down well with me! 

The cash point at LLoyds is one minutes walk away. I never really perceived an issue in that area ... Similar to the relatively new cashpoint outside Beddards ... If it wasn't there you could walk to the Nationwide/Halifax one minute away ... But walking has gone out of fashion! But it's another opportunity I suppose to draw out cash that you can't really afford to spend! 

On a positive point if there is one, I read it somewhere that Heineken has given the club £10,000.

They would have been better off waging that £10k on a Woking win at 11/10. That means they would have been able to give the Club over £20k instead. I think prior to yesterday Woking were on a 5 game winning streak and HUFC had took 3 points from their last ten games. No brainer as Woking were always going to win. 

My advice to anyone would be DON'T BUY THE SXN ... It's a useless rag that has caused misery for 25 years ... Plenty of alternatives out there ...
