International singer Feargal Sharkey most widely known as the lead vocalist of punk band The Undertones in the 1970s and 1980s, and for solo works in the 1980s and 1990s has condemned the recent work carried out along the banks of the River Lugg in Herefordshire and has urged the Environment Agency and others to prosecute the perpetrator in a Tweet. In another Tweet, Sharkey challenges the Environment Agency (Midlands) asking them why didn't they act after the were alerted to the work that was taking place at the River Lugg. Environmental campaigning Sharkey is a lifelong fly fisherman and has campaigned against the pollution of British rivers. We reported on this story and in a follow up article earlier this week and now many questions are being asked even though there are some local people who are pleased with the work that has been done. What are your thoughts?

Major damage to River Lugg in Herefordshire
Hereford Voice replied to Hereford Voice's topic in Open Forum
Following widespread condemnation of the eco vandalism on the River Lugg, the Environment Agency said; -
Herefordshire Wildlife Trust have highlighted this destruction to a section of the River Lugg, in Herefordshire. One of the most beautiful and important rivers in the UK, has been intentionally destroyed over a stretch of approximately 1.5km with huge repercussions for wildlife downstream. Herefordshire Wildlife Trust has discovered that the river and its banks have been bulldozed, straightened and reprofiled into a sterile canal, with all bankside and riverside habitats completely obliterated. The Lugg flows from its source in Powys through Herefordshire before meeting the River Wye just outside Hereford. Its riverbanks, gravels and beds of water crowfoot are home to crayfish, otters and salmon, lampreys and dragonflies and a host of rare river wildlife. The river is so important for willdife that it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in its lower reaches. This should give it multiple layers of protection, with statutory agencies such as Natural England, the Environment Agency, Forestry Commission and Herefordshire Council all given a statutory duty to protect the river from harm.

Hereford Western Bypass and Southern Link Road Scrapped.
Hereford Voice posted a topic in Open Forum
Instead Herefordshire Council leaders have opted for an eastern river crossing between Rotherwas and Ledbury Road, with more investment for walking, cycling and public transport. A new river bridge for Hereford are you in favour of this option?-

The new extended farmfoods on Belmont Road Hereford opened today. The expansion of the existing store into the former Bath Store unit next door has hugely increased the store size and farmfoods now dominate this small retail park taking up 70% of the units. This is great news for the local area and Hereford.

The temperatures will be dropping this week and the Gritter teams are on standby to respond when necessary. The Herefordshire Council preparation is complete, there are 6,000 tonnes of rock salt in their barns and they are monitoring the forecast for the county. We may get a bit of snow too, particularly on higher ground.

The £9m Midlands Centre for Cyber Security is about to open in Hereford. This joint venture with the University of Wolverhampton, which is a key investment in creating more knowledge-based jobs in Herefordshire. The 2,000 square metre building, designed by Associated Architects and built by Spellar Metcalfe, will provide significant resources for research and development across three cyber laboratories, advanced training facilities as part of the WCRI and additional business space for up to 16 cyber companies. The centre, which secured £2.82m of funding via the Marches LEP’s Growth Deal with Government in 2017, is part of the new Cyber Quarter at Skylon Park, already home to numerous defence and security sector businesses. The new centre incorporates a full height glass atrium to provide a dual break-out space and function hall, alongside the main three storey building that houses business suites, innovation rooms, IT workshops and a ‘Cyber Range’ – a cutting edge facility that will defend against the global rise of hacking.

Cabinet approves first steps in Council building it's own Council houses which it will retain ownership of, outside the householder right to buy mechanism, and which will provided quality affordable houses that are affordable to own or rent and affordable to run, being built to the very best passive energy standards. This welcome move gives the first time buyers, renters and those trying to get onto the property ladder a real opportunity to do that in the county. The Council will have an income and an asset and be a responsible and fair landlord, developer.

LUXURY ACCOMODATION TO GIVE A WELCOME BOOST TO LOCAL ECONOMY “Next to agriculture, tourism is one of the biggest revenue generators for the county.” Says local businessman Luke Conod. “Hotels, guest houses, B&Bs, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops and attractions all rely on visitors to the area spending money with their businesses.” Luke and business partner Byron Campbell are doing their bit to encourage visitors back to the county having invested heavily in a major refurbishment of the Swan Inn at Letton. The doors of the 17th Century coaching inn are to re-open imminently after being closed for over 8 years. “Five sumptuous furnished and decorated letting bedrooms at the Swan Inn all have their own high-end en-suite bathrooms.” Said Luke. “Our guests will enjoy luxurious comfortable beds, crisp bed linen, sumptuous fabrics & furnishings and state-of-the-art lighting.” To take advantage of the enviable views over the rolling Herefordshire countryside a large heated outdoor terrace with covered seating area for up to 100 people has been constructed, in addition to the relaxing bar area in the main building. Very much wanting to take it one step at a time, the Swan’s 40-seater restaurant will open in the spring next year. From Easter, several pitches will be available for guests preferring to stay in their own touring caravans, motorhomes, or tents and for these a block of luxurious facilities has been added. “We’ll be sourcing as much of the food and drinks that we serve as we possibly can from the local Herefordshire farmers, growers and suppliers right here on our doorstep and by the summer we’ll be employing up to 30 local staff, so we’ll be making a sizeable contribution to the economy of the community that we’ll be serving.” “Plans are to re-opens on Thursday 3rd December at 6pm and we’re aiming to make the Swan Inn the favourite living room for the people living and working in the surrounding area.” The Swan Inn is at Letton on the A438 Brecon Road between Hereford and Kington.
