  1. Herefordshire Council has won an enforcement case against two builders found guilty of fly tipping by the River Lugg.

Samuel Cooper, 31, from Hereford and Matthew Taylor, 28, from Staunton-on-Wye, were both found guilty of failing to transfer controlled waste to an authorised person at Hereford Magistrates’ Court on Friday 4 August 2017. Mr Cooper was also found guilty of transporting the waste without a waste carriers licence.

Mr Cooper received fines totalling £2382.50 and Mr Taylor received fines totalling £1882.50.

The fly tipped building waste – which weighed in at 720kg - was reported to Herefordshire Council by an Environment Agency Officer at the River Lugg, which is a site of special scientific interest and conservation.

Kay Champion, who heads the Environment Agency’s West Midlands waste crime team, said:

“We are very pleased to have been able to help Herefordshire Council in taking this prosecution forward, and of course we’re pleased at the outcome. Fly tipping is not just an anti-social blight on our communities, it costs councils and landowners millions of pounds every year to clear up.

“We hope this case will send a very clear message to anyone thinking of breaking the law in this way.”

The maximum penalty for fly tipping is a £50,000 fine and/ or 5 years imprisonment.

Marc Willimont, Herefordshire Council’s Head of Regulatory and Development Management Services, said:

“Action will be taken against any trader, business or person which illegally disposes of their waste or does not ensure that their waste is collected by a registered waste carrier.

“We would encourage anybody who sees fly tipping in action to report the details directly to Herefordshire Council.”

The Community Protection Team will investigate fly tipping cases that are reported via the Herefordshire Council website or by calling 01432 261761. For further information visit www.herefordshire.gov.uk/flytipping

ly found out ourselves just days ago! Sadly after many months of giving our love, time sweat and soul into the building and the music scene the financial side of things eventually beat us and we had to make our peace with the fact we couldn't carry on! We must above all else thank all the people that made this journey possible, enjoyable, special and magical - the people who have facilitated music, supported us and all the people who came through our doors to share so many moments of happiness with us! We love you all for being our community for over a year and a half! With love to you all and a wish that you keep music alive always... And now sadly the booth must wish you a goodnight!

    Sad news.

  3. From reading the comments, the one thing that stands out is the "£10 million pound loan secured on assets" - sounds to me like BFS have called in the debt, Gelpack can't repay it, so BFS have started proceedings to recover the money. This BFS lot sound a lot like a dodgy bunch of loan sharks to me.....hopefully the staff will get a redundancy pay out and not be left to struggle.

A redundancy payout is pretty poor in mosts cases, especially if you have only been working there for 6 months.

  4. I am behaving myself, thanks.  The fact...  That is FACT that there were no accidents at all the time she was there says it all.

I agree with the others, this is clearly a dangerous place being the busiest junction in the city, regardless of whether or not any accident occurred during her occupation, it would of only been a matter of time for either her or someone else.

  5. Colin , thank you .

Sadly in the recent past some of the comments on this site have been so similar and slid so low to some of the rubbish nonsense on the HT Comments.

We all enjoy a discussion and quite rightly do not always agree with some of the comment but it's the way we argue against other comments that count , plus of course the way it's managed.

Well unlike the HT I try to refrain from editing posts as much as possible. I work full time and I cannot monitor every single topic and post, I rely on members hitting the REPORT button that said, I have no problem with people having a disagreement and arguing to a degree but some comments do come across as more childish than anything. his has very little to do with the way we manage the site. You get this on all forums and social media, it is called 'Freedom Of Speech' we have rules/guidelines in place and most members over the past 10 years or more have been pretty good in my experience and I have very rarely had to remove a comment or hand out warnings, which in itself speaks volumes about Hereford Voice.

  6. I find a useful tip is to always read through one's thoughts before posting them on The Voice. For typos, grammatical errors, punctuation and that sort of thing. Helps other folk to understand your 'stream-of-consciousness bile'. You should try it Ragwert.

Okay no need to be teacher, I find this quite patronising and I am sure ragwert does too. It is not difficult to work out what people are saying.

  7. I see this lady appeared in court this week according to this article in the Hereford Times

    HT:

She appeared on remand at Hereford Magistrates Court today (Monday) after failing to appear at the same magistrates’ court last week.

Lamputt pleaded guilty to breaching her bail last week.

She pleaded not guilty today to using threatening or abusive words causing harm or distress at Jessica’s Sweet Shop in Eign Gate, Hereford on June 1.

She will face trial on that charge in November.

It appears that there may a little more to add to this story yet, so I have unlocked it.

  8. Me ex wife is an estate agent and I am informed they are as busy as ever, internet sales have been around for sometime now but there will always be people who still prefer the personal service.

A tattoo and a coffee are not something that you can buy online thankfully, so while one trade my loose out another will gain...That said, one of my biggest gripes is when shop staff constantly tell me if something is not in stock, I can always buy it online and I always tell them, if they keep telling people this they will soon be out of a job.

  9. Hi Slim, you're post is really interesting!

I can only speak for myself - and I have never been in a situation where food/service has been truly awful - but I don't think I'd have the nerve to leave without paying!

Morning Colin, thanks for sharing. It sounds as if the Miller & Carter menu debacle is similar to Thai Gallery. I'm sure we can all understand errors or mishaps....to me, it's the complete lack of customer service that is the real issue.

Good to see you have found Hereford Beef on the menu....and that's from a vegetarian! (Albeit too far to be a quick lunch destinations!)

    Good morning dippy,

I must agree with Slim and I have done this in the past and just refused to pay, what can they do, you could stand there are argue for all the customers to witness or just say I am not happy and I am not paying, I am sure they would just prefer you left the restaurant/cafe, but I must add this is only in extreme cases.

  10. Cafe Bodega

I was in town early one morning with my brother a few weeks ago, we usually go to Ascaris for just the best breakfast (although not the cheapest) however, we had parked in King Street and I said come on lets try this Bodega Cafe. We could see a few people inside behind the counter, it was 0850 we tried the door but it was locked, I could see that they were due to open at 0900, it was raining lightly and I could see a chap coming across, I assumed to let us in, he opened the door and just said we are not open yet and then closed it again. My brother and I just looked at each other in disbelief, surely the polite thing would have been to let us in out of the rain and ask us to take a seat explaining that we may have to wait for 10 mins while they get ready, although he didn't appear to be doing a lot.

This was the second attempt at using this cafe, the first time I was in town with my gf and we decided that we would treat ourselves to a cooked breakfast, cafe was open, we went in sat down and asked for the menu as we wanted breakfast to be told that breakfast finished at 10.30am, this was at 11.10am, most cafes offer all day breakfast but even those that don't you would think offered breakfast in the morning until 12 noon.

So far this has been our experience or lack of experience at Bodega. So we mainly use Ascaris now for light bites.

    Miller and Carter

We were given a gift voucher to use in Miller and Carter and decided one Saturday afternoon to have a meal while at the Old Market.

We ordered our food, starters and mains, starters were perfect and everything was great, nice atmosphere and we were just people watching while waiting for our mains.

The waitress brought us our food, mine was fine but the mrs had ordered Chicken Schnitzel Served with seasoned fries, mozzarella tomato & basil salad and a garlic mayonnaise mozzarella cheese salad, however, there was no mozzarella anywhere? She called the waitress back to our table and asked where is the mozzarella cheese, the waitress just said you didn't order mozzarella cheese, my mrs explained that it was part of the salad that she had ordered, the waitress still argued that no, we don't offer a dish with mozzarella cheese, its just plain salad, my mrs asked if she could see the menu again, and yes, there it was Chicken Schnitzel with mozzarella cheese salad, the waitress just said, oh okay, I will take it back to the kitchen, she came back a few mins later with almost burned chicken and mozzarella cheese just scattered across the top of the salad. No apology for the error, nothing, that said we have been back since and the food was very good.

As a Herefordian, I am disappointed that they do not offer our famous Hereford Beef on their menu's and I have also expressed my disappointment to the management, so lets see if it appears at some point. Strangely enough, I was delighted to see Hereford Beef on the menu when we were in Poland a few weeks ago, so much so, I took this photo.
