  1. I must admit, my radio listening is normally Classic Fm and Sunshine, not that I listen to much radio. A station that does 15-30 sounds like a radio 1 type of thing, so while I will have a gander at like radio to see what it is like, I doubt it will be my sort of thing.

I will have a listen on the computer when it is launched, I have got a DAb radio, but I do not use it as I hate DAB.

I agree with every thing Roger says above, Hereford population at least is ageing, youngsters are moving out and older people moving in to retire.

  2. I seriously don't know why you bother posting Adrian, all doom n gloom with you.

Not all doom and gloom, but sadly that is what Hereford is these days, come to think of it, it have been like it for years now.

I used to love Hereford, we had some interesting and good shops in the past, now it just have become any town.  We have a council that seems to waste money and listen to no one, and put people out of work for their precious projects.

Hereford also have been snobbish, but I thought with more people coming here that would change, yet it have got worse, not better.

Sure we now have a multi million pound shopping centre, but there is nothing different there, so much more could have been done with that place. Yes we have a got a better cinema and we needed that I must admit, not sure if we really required one that is so large. I have not been in there yet, but from what I have heard from other people they have gone in to watch a film and there have been half a dozen  others watching if that.

This multi million pound centre do not even have a cash machine, and it seems like it keeps falling apart,.

The city centre is to be honest right mess and I really do not think the council cares, they say they do and tell us what they are going to do, but I really think it is too late. It is nice that some new shops have opened or are opening.

There is very little to get people to come to Hereford, if you lived outside Hereford, say halfway between Worcester and Hereford, what would entice you to come here? i know a few people who lives outside and yet they rather go a few extra mile to Worcester or other places to do their shopping.

We have some stalls on a field selling a few things and people get excited about it, and yet other towns, even ones that are small than us have things that are better.

I wish now that I had moved out of Hereford years ago, would things have been better? I have no idea, but I would have liked to try. Too late now due to age and health.

We will see what happens with High Town when/if they start work ok it, I haver lived here long enough to remember what it used to be like. I know things have to move on, but they are not always for the better.

  3. The video was filmed inside the kiosk at the Old Market, not a studio lol

Ah, I just had another quick look, yes you can see on the right hand side some form of frame. I knew he was inside and no outside.  I must admit, I thought that if it was chroma key, it was flipping good, because you can normally tell.

Shows how often I have been there to know what building faces what.

Saying that he should have done the video in High town, proves to me that the council is not interested in High town at all and they must show the old Market at every opportunity

  4. Why have we still got those hanging gibbets on the one side? I see that even though there arent enough bike stands now, there will only be space for 8 bikes in that picture. I thought that when the trees were removed from High Town for the bull statue that they would be replaced. Trees improve the environment by keeping the air cool in summer and improving air quality. To me they also "soften" the streetscape and they have been shown to improve people' s feelings of wellbeing - something needed in High Town with all the empty shops and the burnt out buildings.

I hated those poles when they went up, about time they came down.

  5. I had a chuckle at Cllr Price's video, I think that bloke is on a different planet to the rest of us.

Politician, what do you expect? most of them are on a different planet.

He was not even outside, that video was done in a studio.

  6. Correction, what I meant to say is Cath North will be a stand alone councillor, no affiliation to any group on the council, but still represents her constituents in her ward.

Never have agreed with that. If you get elected as a member of one party and then change, then another election should be called. I know some people vote a politician in because of who they are and not what party they represent, but not all.

  7. I remember Mr Wilson, Mr Davies in the newsagent, and all the other places you mention. The cold meat shop and gents hairdressers where my neighbour Mr Ivan Bishop used to cut our hair.

There were two more rpund the back, the baby shop next to the cold meat shop and where the Info centre is was Sid Wrights greengrocers I work there after school and weekends. Over the years the chippy has not got any better. In the days before Tesco you didn't have to go into town you could buy everything at the Oval. Also the pet shop replaced the chemists, they did a roaring trade. Ah those were the days!!!. I have lived in my home at Newton Farm for 40 years and what a difference some not for the better.

I remember the hairdressers, was there not two, next to each other, one for Women and one for men?  The greengrocers I remember as well. I remember the pet shop as well, but not sure when that opened.

I do not think things are better, a good pub is gone, replaced by a place that sells something they call burgers. Now the flats are gone as well, no doubt less housing for rent.

  8. I remember when those toilets was built, I also remembered when the shops there was useful, Mr Wilson and his hardware store, knew him well, my brother used to help him out and and I remember getting the paraffin for our heater. Chippy next door, Never was the best chips around, i do not know what they are like now. Then we had the grocers, next door to the newsagent, the chemist, cake shop, the butchers, not sure if there was anything else. Then Tesco opened and it went downhill after that.

I remember those days, never to come back again.

I have not been around the Oval way for years now, I think I would be pretty sad to see it now, even the tunnel do not exist any more.

  9. I was thinking more of a shuttle bus to bring people into the city to walk around the participating establishments etc rather than running between pubs. Maybe there could be a stage set up on Castle Green, or Bishops Meadow for bands and live acts (some decent stand up's would be good too - not all of us like live music).

    Ah, I see.

  10. I think Initially I would prefer to keep it to the city but depending on it's success we could then look at expansion later on. I am also keen to involve local producers farmers etc..

I am still not convinced to be honest, a bus going to pubs, do you think a pub could manage a whole load of people at one time, depending how many is on the bus.

Who you callin' boozer? <hic> wanna fight about it, step outside, i'll take yer all on! <hic> you're my bestest buddy ever <hic>

    LOL

  11. We used to have a festival years ago, not to do with booze, but floats on the streats and that sort of thing, but it vanished once we had the courtyard. It was said that the money for the festival went to the courtyard.

Not sure about a festival set around pubs, it makes us all out to be boozers.

Some shops have vegetable aisles with the really thin bags on a roll (with handles). The one's you put yer sprouts in. They are technically 'carrier bags' .... There is going to have to be some serious monitoring of the self serve area of shops to make sure none of those slip through the net!

    Govt. Website

If you put say some loose baking spuds,  the bag is free, but if you put some prepackage carrots in you will have to pay for the bag.

  13. Adrian this is quite common in business and often free rent from private landlords is part of a new lease during sensible negotiations. I know when I had a carpet shop I managed to get free rent for the first 6 months.

That is rent, we all know that the Old Market have either reduced rent or given units rent free for a set amount of time, I am on about rates, this is a different thing.

  14. Good Luck boys! I am concerned for them as the business rates are high on the old market, and now the first 12 months free from rates have passed everyone has got to pay the rates.

So you are saying that these stores in the Old Market did not pay Business rates for the first year? No wonder they pinched so many from the town centre, i bet the council did not give free rates to new  stores opening in the old party of town.

Is it any wonder i think our council are a waste of time and do not trust politicians . I suppose money talks.

  15. Good point. I've got a Morrison's plastic bag in the cupboard. Never noticed before but it's got a bar code on. I suppose it could be confusing if I take it back into Morrison's on the 5th to re-use it and they they think I'm stealing it if they didn't see me pull it out.  :tongue_32:

You have a point there, I presume they will notice that it is not flay and got creases in, where the new ones will look new.
