Colin James Posted November 9, 2016 Report Share Posted November 9, 2016 Argos are opening a click and collect in Sainsbury's Hereford. Unfortunately this will be at the demise of their store in high town. Argos main store has been under threat of closure for some time now and the the store in Hereford I am informed will probably close next year. Hopefully most of the staff will be offered jobs at Sainsbury's but this threatened closure is not good news for the city centre. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Opening in Sainsbury's next week will be a pop up Argos at the front of the store (where the magazines currently are) where you can order an item and it will arrive in Sainsbury's from the main store in town in about 30 or so minutes. I believe online click and collect items can also be sent here. Then in February, a full Argos store will open in the back of the store where the electrical desk currently sits and all branded general merchandise (TVs, Laptops, iPads, game consoles, kettles, toasters, hoovers etc) will be a part of Argos from then on and will not be sold by Sainsbury's, only Sainsbury's brand stuff will remain, if that makes sense. adamski Posted November 11, 2016 Report Share Posted November 11, 2016 Nationally, this has to be a good strategic move by Sainsbury's, and if anything can keep Argos alive it must be something like this. From Hereford's point of view though, it's a shame to have another main name disappear from our high street. I think that Maylord Orchard will look even more desperate then! herefordman75 Posted November 11, 2016 Report Share Posted November 11, 2016 It's probably to do with the fact that Sainsbury's purchased the Argos parent company earlier this year, so makes sense to slim down and use one store for both. Hopefully it will work out, a big plus will be the free parking to actually get to Argos, rather than having to pay to park in the dismal Maylords cave.... greenknight Posted November 11, 2016 Report Share Posted November 11, 2016 The Maylord centre is starting to look a little vulnerable now however if the landlords are clever about rents and the council makes it favourable for start up businesses in terms of rates then there is no reason why they can't be occupied. The exact same thing has happened in Winchester. An unattractive development called Brookes went up about the same time and now most of the units are empty.
